Failure Date: 08/05/2018

No matter what repairs I do the abs warning light will not go off. The breaking feels off. I leak power steering fluid and have had the pump checked. I constantly feel the steering tighten up and even randomly relax causing in unsafe steering conditions. Steering can tighten up and become loose again while in a parked position, a very slow moving speed and at freeway speeds.

5 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

This problem has been going on since 2013. Power steering leakage. 3 mechanics checked car couldn't find leak. I ended up carrying fluid with me cause I never knew when it would go out. The 4th mechanic changed the power steering pressure switch that wasn't the problem. He has now found that the care leaks when not in motion. A power steering rack has been ordered.

8 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Noticed leak on driveway cement. Investigated found ps fluid low. Refilled and continued to leak. Being repaired as we write at my cost. Should be recall as I have read many reports of this happening.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

Currently have to replace the power steering hose. Massive leak and using a bottle of power steering fluid every couple days. I have read and reviewed a minimum of 100 complaints of the exact same problem but Nissan refuses to do a recall on this matter. I did not have any problems until my power steering quit working well on the highway going 55mph during a rain storm. I was very close to going in the ditch. This is not a $50 fix but a $450 fix and a problem that should not be occuring. I would be fine if it was a clamp that came lose or a bearing was leaking but for 100's of high pressure power steering lines to be faulty is a factory malfunction and should be recalled. Thank you.

10 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Vehicle power steering fluid leaking from high pressure hose ,causing loosing of steering and smoke coming out from under the car.

11 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

Power steering fluid leak - hard to turn steereing ,loud noise from steering pump because no fluid present - looks like power steering hose leak - did some research online and it is very common in Murano 2003-2007 - obviously Nissan wont recall it even when you have whole forums online and hundreds of people complaining about same thing.

12 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/05/2012

Upon starting vehicle in a. M. , I heard a loud whine emanate from engine compartment. The sound was exactly like brittle leaves from a tree were rubbing on the moving belts. I turned steering wheel left and right and steering sensation seemed sporadic and irregular. I opened the hood and checked serpentine belt and power steering belt. I thought the belts may be glazed or have loosened or had a foreign object touching them. All looked okay but the noise remained. That afternoon I called my mechanic and made appt. My mechanic checked vehicle , added power steering fluid as he found there was a leak in the power steering pressure hose and said he would order a new unit and install as soon as possible. He said this is an extremely common part to fail on these Muranos. Within a few days the repair was complete, however it set me back four hundred dollars. I called Nissan at 1-800- Nissan1. The agent on behalf of Nissan refused to accept responsibility, however did make a case number. I stated someone will be seriously injured or killed one day, but was met with the obligatory "we are not responsible". I called the dealer where I purchased the Murano and was told Nissan is well aware of the numerous failures of this power steering pressure hose, and it is extremely common. Since there is no recall, there is nothing that could be done to assist me.

13 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

Steering became difficult and car was making loud noise. I had no steering fluid left at all. Mechanic says there is a leak somewhere and it could be the steering gear/rack that could cost up to $1,700 to repair . And that this is a common problem with the 2007 Nissan Murano. There should be a recall!.

14 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

I noticed power steering fluid on the ground and noticed that the power steering reservoir was low. I put the car on jackstands and confirmed that the power steering high pressure line was leaking. This is an extremely dangerous situation since the fluid is combustible and I observed the steering fluid on the catalytic converter and exhaust pipe. I fixed the hose myself and saved almost $450 but Nissan should address this defect before somebody is killed in a fire. After reading the Nissan forums online it looks like Nissan has made no attempt to correct this dangerous defect.

15 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Noticed fluids on garage floor under my Nissan Murano. Upon checking fluid levels it was determined to be power steering fluid levels that were low. Further investigation indicated that the power steering hose was leaking. This has seemed to be a problem with the Nissan fleet as a whole, but as of yet no recalls have been initiated. This is a dangerous situation to be in because of the possible accidents that low fluid level poses and the possibility of initiating a fire.

16 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

I noticed power steering fluid on the concrete under my vehicle. A mechanic told me my hose was leaking and I found out it cost about $500. 00 to fix. I checked with Nissan dealer to see if there was a recall. He told me no. There should be a recall on this problem because it is dangerous. The fluid is all underneath my vehicle. The fluid could ignite by hitting the exhaust pipe or anything hot.

17 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/25/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the power steering failed. The contact stated that she attempted to turn, but she heard a loud noise and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and stopped. The contact then looked under the hood and noticed that the power steering fluid was low. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that there was a leakage in the power steering link. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified and stated that they never heard of such failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 37,521.

18 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the driver's seat frame detached and leaned towards the driver side door. The contact placed a stack of bricks to keep the seat steady. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. In addition, the power steering line detached and leaked fluid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering line needed to be replaced. The technician clamped the power steering line; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

19 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

A leak developed and progressively got worse. It was determined it was power steering fluid. I put the car on the lift and it looked to be coming from one of the hoses. After reading these previous complaints, I figured it probably was the high pressure hose. Indeed it was, the repair cost being $500. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs and filed a complaint. I don't expect any compensation, as they told me it would be based on how much service I had done previously at the dealer. I do my own maintenance, oil changes (I only use mobil1), so it would be based on whatever previous problems I had that I took it to the dealer to resolve. This car has only 31400 miles on it, and just went out of warranty.

20 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

The pressure hose of the power steering is leaking extensively, to the point where it required the reservoir to be refilled an about 10 days. Upon closer inspection, the power steering fluid can be seen dripping onto the exhaust, creating smoke and a burning smell when outside the vehicle. This failure probably began several months ago, but the vehicle was already leaking oil from the upper oil pan (the aluminum shroud around the crank). Once the upper oil pan leak was fixed, the ps pressure hose leak became more evident. Apparently, this problem has gotten worse just recently, because I added some fluid to the ps reservoir when I fixed the upper oil pan, and much of this replaced fluid drained out within the following 10 days. Certainly not what I'd call a safe situation, and from reading the online forums on Nissan Murano's, it appears this is a common situation.

21 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/16/2011

For the month of August 2011, my 2009 Nissan Murano has experienced four (4) steering wheel failures that could've resulted in serious bodily injury or death. Hawkinson Nissan replaced the serpentine belt at least twice in less than a two-week period in August of this year because it was shredded. Although the dealership had done multiple multi-point inspections this month, they reported that there was no evidence of any pending failure of the serpentine belt when they did the inspections. In addition, on August 8, 2011, the technician found a "pass side rack and pinion boot filling up with fluid from bad seal in power steering rack," according to the invoice. Nissan found a leak in the power steering high pressure line. Nissan repaired the problem by replacing the high pressure power line and power steering rack. They also bled the power steering fluid system and performed a front end alignment, according to the invoice. I do not think the 2009 Nissan Murano is safe to drive because I was nearly killed or badly injured multiple times. They need to recall the vehicle since they've attempted to correct issues with the steering wheel on multiple times with no avail. I'm afraid of them returning the vehicle to me since the mechanics obviously cannot fix the problem since it's most likely a defect that's causing the serpentine belt to constantly shred with no prior evidence of pending failure or wear and tear.

22 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a rattling sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics, where the mechanic stated that the power steering fluid was low. A few days after the power steering fluid was added, the rattling sound continued and the power steering fluid was low again. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostics, where the technician stated the power steering high pressure hose was leaking power steering fluid and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

23 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

At any rate of driving the wheels begin to shake and the car rattles. Turning and steering became very difficult. The car was taken to a mechanic and he indicated the power steering fluid was low and thus added fluid. Several weeks later it happened again and fluid was added again and the mechanic stated the power steering high pressure hose was leaking power steering fluid and needed to be replaced. Approximate mileage 74,000. Fluid has to be replaced consistently and I am terrified of driving the car. This is a common problem with the Murano.

24 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/02/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the high pressure power steering hose was cracked and leaking fluid. 26 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

2006 Nissan Murano with approximately 66,000 miles on it. Power steering leakage identified by stain on driveway, as well as noise coming from under the hood. With low fluid, steering is sluggish at all speeds. Mechanic determined that cause of the leak is a failure of the high pressure line for the power steering pump. Current remedy is to add roughly a half pint of power steering fluid every few days, and avoiding driving the vehicle. Numerous failures of this part are documented on web forums, NHTSA site, as well as being common knowledge among the mechanics network. Concern is that total failure can cause a surprise loss of steering resulting in a crash.

27 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

Turned on my car and found a loud racketing noise coming from the front passenger side. Kept driving car until my steering wheel became completely locked, luckily I was near a sears and had it looked at. Diagnosed it as a leak in my power steering hose. They added power steering fluid and told me it would be hundreds of dollars to fix. After 24 hours, the steering fluid they had added had completely leaked to a puddle under my car and my wheel was locked again. I have had 2 other friends with the exact same car and the exact same problem. Obviously with all the other complaints about the 2006 Murano having power steering issues, this is not a coincidence it is a manufacturing problem. I am very lucky that I was near a parking lot and not on the interstate when my wheel became completely locked! this is a very dangerous problem, that Nissan needs to take care of!.

28 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/21/2010

I had the car inspected pre purchase inspection by stevens creek Nissan www. Stevenscreeknissan. Com. It was certified clean with absolutely _no_leaks_. Then 30 days later I hear a whine within the car and I took it to a local mechanic to inspect. It was identified as a leak in power steering fluid hose. How come 30 days there wasn't any reported leak , but now there is a leak that had drained a lot of power steering fluid and that caused the high pitch whine. The mechanic added some power steering fluid and the sound stopped. When I checked with a kragen store where I went to buy power steering fluid , they said that this is common problem with Nissan. I checked the news groups online and I find that many people have complained about Nissan power steering hose. . Read more...
