1 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

All the noises occur occasionally and not all the time: 1. Steering column makes a metal clunking noise while turning and accelerating on cold start. Occurs when pulling out from driveway or parking spot. 2. Steering column makes a metal clunking noise when accelerating from a complete stop. Occurs when car is already warmed up, driven for 10 mins. 3. Steering column makes a metal clunking noise when going into driveway or bumps. Occurs when car is already fully warmed up, driven for more than 10 mins. Brought into Nissan stevens creek, said there was nothing visually wrong, went for a test drive, couldn't replicate, said they would lubricate steering column. Monitor until problem gets worse. Brought into Nissan dublin, said they inspected steering components and torqued everything, could not find anything wrong. Stated, I still had warranty, if things went wrong. My concern is that something is not connected properly in the suspension or steering column which could result in a crash if I am going on the highway or backroads through the snow.

2 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

The telescoping function on my steering column has stopped working on my Murano. I understand there is a service bulletin out on this same issue (ntb-09-073), but dealership refuses to fix it. The steering column is now stuck at a height where it blocks my view of the speedometer; I have to duck down every time I want to check how fast I am traveling. Obviously a safety issue, and I understand that this is a chronic problem for Murano's and would hope that Nissan would step up to the plate and provide a fix to make their cars safer.

3 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

While the vehicle was in motion the electric tilt steering wheel just electrictly just motored to the fully down position putting exstreme pressure on the top of your knee and thighs and will not return up when using the joystick on the side of the column.

4 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Upon parking the subject vehicle, it was observed that the powered tilt mechanism in the steering column would not function properly. One could hear the drive motor operating, but the column would not move to its normally stowed position. Further, any attempts to adjust the steering column up or down via the control button resulted in an electric drive motor noise, but no motion of the steering column without assisting such motion by pushing up or down on the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to Nissan autonation arapahoe (10030 east arapahoe rd, centennial, CO 80112), where both the steering column tilt and telescope drive motor assemblies were replaced at full cost to the car owner, thereby remedying the malfunction. After first observation of the malfunction and prior to the repair, the driver did not experience any uncommanded change in the steering column position while driving, however given the failure mechanism, the driver felt it important to report this incident in the event such uncommanded change in steering column position may be possible while driving. It should be noted that Nissan has issued a service bulletin for repair of this mechanism, no. Ntb-09-073, which appears to be related to NHTSA #10030573.

5 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

The automated steering column tilt ceased to operate. Dealer said the installation of a new tilt motor was required. Cost to install new tilt motor, including labor and tax, was $555. 36. I paid this amount to dealer for replacement. Nissan motor company has a problem when an automated mechanism, as this on 5 year old car, fails.

8 Steering Column problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/23/2013

I was driving on the freeway when I suddenly noticed my steering wheel was upside down. Luckily, I could still steer and I immediately took it to the dealer where I had purchased the car and an extended warranty. I had not been involved in any kind of accident, but in trying to figure out what happened I thought I might have gone over a curb while turning right and it may have jarred something. The dealer latched onto this thought and said I broke the steering column when I went over the curb. They would not cover the repair, despite the extended warranty. I just don't believe it. How could going up on a curb and dropping down--from a stop--break the steering column? the dealer said I need to "replace the steering rack and replace the cable reel. " my insurance paid another company for repairs and they replaced the "gear assembly. " since I don't know what any of this means, I am writing the invoice's direct quotes. I really believe there is/was a defect in the car. Has anyone else had this problem?.

9 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

The steering column is stuck and the motor and gears failed. This has been listed more than 100 times on the internet in various blogs. 10 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Problem with the tilt and telescope of the steering column. When turning on the car, gears seem to be grinding and the automatic feature no longer works. Wheel does not return to the pre-set location. Also the auto seat feature does not return to the pre-set location. There's a big problem with the electrical system in the 2009 Nissan Murano. A couple of months ago, it cost me over $500 to get the rear hatch door fixed when all of a sudden it locked shut. Of course, there's no way to unlock this manually from inside the vehicle and this could be a potential safety hazard.

12 Steering Column problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

13 Steering Column problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/09/2010

Unsafe design of tilt steering wheel adjustment lever (swal) that will cause a shattered left knee in a front or rear crash (forc). The swal is positioned on the lower left side of the steering column so that the left knee will be shattered in a forc. Other vehicles do not have this design flaw. Nissan maintains that the swal design has not resulted in problems and therefore nothing will be done. In other words, unless the government takes action to prevent serious injuries Nissan will do nothing. Another example of big business not taking the initiative and correcting a design flaw until the government intervenes. When will the federal government intervene?.
