On numerous occasions, the steering has completely failed to work for approximately a 5 to 10 second interval while driving the vehicle. There is no consistency to when the issue occurs in regards to speed or straight driving versus during a turn. Nissan has checked the car over and found no issue. They took some corrective/preventative measures to clean up electrical contacts in case that was the cause, but the issue has since recurred.

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Murano. While driving 12 mph, the steering wheel failed to turn left or right and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the failure previously occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 708.
Adaptive steering failed at below freezing temperature. Lost ability to steer in a curve and hit another car. After, car could not be driven, as steering was totally inoperative. Steering wheel actually turns 360 degrees over and over with no affect on the front wheels. Front wheels actually ended up in a "pigeon toe" alignment and the car could not be towed.

2004 Nissan Murano suffered complete steering failure. The steering wheel would turn freely but does not control the car. The result was a crash. There were no other cars in sight on a straight road traveling approximately 35 mph. The SUV went off the road and hit a tree totaling the vehicle and injuring driver. Airbag injuries were not too bad but could have been worse if traveling at a higher speed.
