2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2013 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

Power steering hose that goes to rack and pinion is leaking. I contacted several local auto shops (auto victory, youngstedts, precisition tune) and they all find the same issue. All auto shops mentioned they had done multiple power steering hose replacements for this same exact model. It appears this is a common issue in 2013 Nissan Murano's. The auto shops stated it is probably recalled by now but it is not. I am making this complaint so that Nissan can assume responsibility of this factory defect. All these cars had less than 50k miles on them when this part broke down.

3 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

On 2/23/14, I notice there was what appeared to be oil leaking from my truck. I took it to the dealer on 2/26/14, it was the it was the pressure holes leaking which have caused other problems. Rack and pinion (r) side, replace fuel sender two parts. September of 2013, I had to have both right and left control arm repair. This should be a recall and the customer should not have the responsibility of expense.

5 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/30/2011

I own a 2004 Nissan Murano. I have had this vehicle for less than a year (9months) and in the last 2 months I have noticed multiple isses. . . Both my front windows roll down automatically after the car is turned off, the temp gauge on the mirror flashes 100 degrees, lastly-the most concerning is my steering! I heard popping for months and months, but most recently I could feel the power steering going out. I thought at first it was becasue of all the rain we had some high water over our road, but it continued. My brother is a certified mechanic and he added fluid to it which helped for a day or two then it went right back to being hard to steer, mostly turning left some right. We were driving over a bridge when we crossed the bridge joint passing oncoming traffic the wheel nearly jerked left out of my grip because of the problem. We nearly hit another car and could have went through the bridge to the river below. Scared us to death!! when we looked it up in the system it says it may be rack and pinion system. Ive looked online and have read multiple upon multiple accounts of the same thing for this year and model but no recall or help for this issue by Nissan, not the 2004 anyway. My brother plans to get under the car and check it out in more detail but is pretty certain rack and pinion malfunction is the problem. It's gonna be a small fortune to pay for! but more importantly I have two children under age 4 that are transported daily in this vehicle and it is a major safety concern for me and for Nissan. This needs to be corrected.

6 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/31/2010

The rack and pinion and rear differential of my 2009 Murano le is defective. The rack and pinion has stopped working twice and needs to be replaced for the third time. The rear differential on the car has also failed and needed to be replaced. The steering pump has also stopped working and needs to be replaced. The car was purchased in April 2008 and has had documented steering problems since. The dealership (koppel Nissan) has given me a hard time and Nissan has not addressed the issue. This steering problem causes the steering wheel to stop working and I have had several incidents were my children and I have been almost hit. This is a huge safety issue and the fact that the rack and pinion are on back order may indicate this is a wide spread problem. I have been told by mechanics to submit a lemon claim to the state of NY. I have inquired with both the dealership and manufacture with no success. I approaching the statute of limitation under the NY lemon law and fear that repairing the rack and pinion and steering pump will not resolve the problem and I will not be able to file a claim. With everything that is going on with Toyota I feel it is important to reach out to you so that you can alert others who may be having the same problem.
