1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

Coolant and transmission fluid are mixed causing the car to not shift properly. I was not told of this issue when I purchased the car in 2010 from the Nissan dealer - even though it was a known condition. This is the 2nd time the transmission is failing, so it'll be my 3rd transmission. The first time it happened, the car had 70k miles. Now it has 115,000. So the 2nd transmission lasted about 45k miles. Nissan wants me to pay $3000 of the $5,850 estimate. If I knew this car was going to be this much trouble, I wouldn't have purchased it. I really think Nissan should be doing a better job owning up to this issue and covering the expenses for their poor quality.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

The transmission failed after radiator fluid mixed with the transmission fluid. We became fully aware of the problem when my daughter could not start the car. She was at a park with her two young children and 50 miles from home. It was very distressing. The local Nissan dealer will charge over $4,000 plus taxes for the repairs. Most of this expense could have been avoided if we had been informed about the defect at an earlier time. ## VIN passed ## Nissan Pathfinder 2007 ##.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Transmission issues like every other Nissan Pathfinder owner has reported. . Same issue, radiator leaks into transmission with no warning what so ever. How in the world was this not a recall from Nissan & the NHTSA. . It's a safety hazard and fortunately in our situation we barely made it to our destination before the transmission failed. . . $ 6k later out of pocket with Nissan refusing to recognize any transmission or radiator issues outside of warranty.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the transmission failed and the vehicle shifted gears with force. The vehicle was taken to howell motors Buick, GMC, Nissan (1158 highway 51-98 summit, ms 39666, (phone) 601-276-7711) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed due to a radiator leak. The contact stated that the radiator was replaced by the same dealer in 2015; however, the radiator replacement did not correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2017

At 80000 miles timing chain had to be replaced $2100. 00 repair that Nissan was aware of being a common defect . My extended warrantee company did not cover because they said it was a pre - existing problem. At 82000 miles radiator transmission cooler leaked antifreeze into transmission causing failure to both. Another problem that Nissan was aware of and would not pay for a repair for over $6000 because they had no recall.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2016

My Pathfinder stopped defrosting/heating when the vehicle is idle. This is a symptom of the well known cracked radiator problem that leads to transmission failure in many 2005-2010 Pathfinders at around 95,000 mileage. The safety concern is that I like many others have to get to work on time and end up driving these vehicles without the windows being properly defrosted. This causes clear vision issues and increases the probability of getting in an accident, a major safety concern. For this reason, I would seriously consider instituting a recall to replace the radiators.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2016

Vehicle lost power, will not transmit power to the wheels, appears to be a highly complaint among all owners. Transmission has failed in a heavy traffic area. Fuel level sender is no longer working.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle started to lose power. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and later towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator cracked and leaked water into the transmission, which caused the computer system, radiator, and transmission to fail. The radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving 5 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission failed due to a defective radiator, which caused the engine coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

"takata recall" out of the clear blue I was driving my 2007 Pathfinder and the airbag light came on, I took it to the dealership immediately that day and it passed per service manager louis castillo at baker jackson Nissan in houston texas, 2 days later the light came back on and once again I went to the dealer ship and was told that the sensors and other parts needed to be replaced the cost is $1500. I called Nissan corp and they are refusing to taking responsibility even though they stated all 2007 Pathfinders in other states would be given a 10 year warranty. My truck was also affected with the radiator flulid mixing with the transmission fluid, during the years of 2010-2012 I constantly took my truck to baker jackson Nissan and the service manager then larry just topped off my truck himself and never made a record of it. He kept assuring me that he was saving me money. My transmission failed but because of the mileage in 2012 Nissan was able to deny fixing my transmission via the class action lawsuit. I ended up spending $4800 for a new transmission. In 2010 Nissan convinced me to replace my train for $1600, I never knew it was a recall until today. Another caveat to this mess is that baker jackson changed their computer system and has no record of me replacing my train. I have a bank statement to prove it if necessary.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2015

My wife was taking the kids to school and while driving in the drop off line heard a loud "thunk". We had to get it towed to the nearest dealership and pay the $99. 00 diagnostic fee to find out that the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission, which caused transmission failure. Apparently this is a common problem that Nissan is not addressing.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Transmission failed due to coolant leaking into transmission. Had my whole family when transmission gave out don't want to image what would have happened if I was going faster than 35 mph. Cost to repair $5800. Dangerously unacceptable.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2015

I was driving my 2007 Pathfinder with my 3 children in the back when the tires suddenly seemed to be slipping. I wasn't sure what was going on until I was on a big hill and car suddenly wouldn't go into gear. The transmission had blown on me, almost instantaneoulsy with little to no warning signs. The car started rolling backwards on the hill and luckily nobody was behind us. I hit the breaks and stopped the car. It had to be towed and I was stunned when my mechanic said the transmission was dead and it would cost around 3k to fix! "there was only 85k miles on the car and the transmission just blows like that," I asked him? he told me that this was a problem very common with some Nissan cars. I immediately went online and found out that this is known problem with Nissan Pathfinders and xterras, due to fault manufacturing and a lawsuit was brought up against them (a few years before this happened to me). I feel it's outrageous that these cars can still be sold by the dealer (we bought it used with 60k miles on it) without some sort of warning label on it. Thank god my kids didn't get hurt somehow, because it was quite a hazardous situation when the transmission fails suddenly at the top of a big, long hill! if my kids had gotten hurt, I probably could have sued them for a billion dollars, but since I acted quickly, nobody was hurt, and thus, nobody at Nissan seemed to care when I complained. They should be held accountable for fault manufacturing! no car's transmissions suddenly break down for no apparent reason with less than 90k miles on it!.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

Possible transmission failure. Brought vehicle to be inspected and could get a clear answer which one of the observations was perform at a Nissan dealer. The fluids seems to be mixed, transmission with radiator fluid. Seems as this has been and on going problem with Nissan. Dealer tells me the cant find the recall.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2015

Radiator failed, mixed coolant into transmission fluid caused transmission to fail. Repairs estimated at $5000.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

Nissan new about this problem for years and done nothing about it. Their defective radiator is leaking into the transmission and causing my transmission to fail, and they have the balls to ask me to pay for it. I have had nothing but Nissan vehicles for the last 20 years and was about to trade in for a new maxima. Oh well maybe it is time to change to a different brand.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2015

My Pathfinder broke down due to the transmission failing while driving. I was just pulling into my housing development and had to kill and restart the truck to get it to make it into the driveway. Apparently this is a known issue by Nissan, where there's a crack that allows the radiator coolant and transmission fluid to mix, causing the transmission to fail. This is extremely wrong that a consumer must pay out of pocket for a known and acknowledged flaw in the manufacturer's design.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

The transmission cooler leaked coolant into the transmission causing the transmission to fail unexpectedly while driving down the highway at a speed of 40-45 mph.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

Discovered a small pool of purple liquid under front left tire of my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder in the garage yesterday. Thought that must not be good, so I started doing some research online. Behold, discovered it was most likely a radiator leak and most likely leaked into transmission as well. Took the vehicle in today, and my concerns were confirmed. Radiator replacement = $800. Transmission is working normally right now, but from what I can tell the damage may already be done and its only a matter of time before catastrophic transmission failure +$4000. The issue I have with this whole situation is Nissan is very aware of this defect, yet did not issue a recall. All they did was extend radiator/transmission warranty. This warranty does not apply to my vehicle being over 100k miles. All Nissan had to do was issue a recall, fix the defective radiator (probably a $500 fix for them) instead, they ignored it, and the customer is stuck with a $5000 fix they did not even see coming due to them not notifying us about it. I am not pleased.

20 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

The vehicle was traveling on I-95 during rush hour traffic, the vehicle was traveling at stop and go speeds due to traffic congestion and when the operator wanted to accelerate, the vehicle did not respond. It took various tries before it was able to move and placed on the curb. After that the vehicle started to respond again but at limited speeds and was able to barely made it back home at very slow speeds. It was then taken to an auto repair shop and it was determined that the transmission was failing. It has been further determined that there is a contamination of transmission and radiator fluids / coolants and a total transmission failure may be possible. The vehicle has not been in operation since this was discovered and we are evaluating options for repair, up to and including total replacement of the power-train and radiator. After investigating this possible failure I was able to find that this appears to be a fairly common manufacturer defect but I can not find any recall notices. This was a very disturbing incident and thankfully no one was hurt, but the transmission failure occurring in the middle of I-95 could have resulted in crash due to the sudden deceleration of the vehicle. I'm looking for guidance on how this can be taken to the manufacturer so they can take care of this obvious factory defect. I look forward to hearing back from you.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

2007 Nissan Pathfinder le - 92,000 miles est. - I bought this vehicle new in 2007 and have been very pleased up until the past two weeks. My story is the same as others - transmission started getting rough, particularly around 45-50 mph and on inclines. There is an audible and jolting clunk moving from neutral to drive. While driving in the above range, the vehicle sounds just like driving over a rumble strip on the highway. I haven't even taken the vehicle in to the dealership yet, and I already know what the problem is. This car has been babied for years being that it is the sole automobile that my wife and kids drive in. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay a $3000 deductible for a defect that Nissan has had full knowledge of for years now! to hell with the settlement that left most of us out in the cold while padding the pockets of the attorneys! it is time for the NHTSA to step up and make the only right and safe decision that Nissan refuses to make! these cars are not safe to drive on the road in this condition! mine will remained parked in the drive until Nissan is forced to recall every vehicle with these faulty radiator/transmission issues. This is my complaint. I hope that Nissan does the Smart thing here. They have lost me as a customer for life, and I've owned or driven over a dozen Nissans in my time. It's a shame that this company will sit back and let these complaints mount up until truly forced to do something about it. They should be disgraced knowing that right now there are mothers & children driving in vehicles that could suffer complete transmission failure at any point leading to injury and death. My advice to all is to bring this to their doorstep. Technology offers us the ability to bring the fight to the top of the food chain. I'll be bombarding email addresses and voicemail boxes until this is resolved.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

Transmission failed due to faulty radiator in our 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Our 17 year old son was driving on a very busy interstate late Sunday June 16th, 2013. The car's transmission failed suddenly with no known notice. Luckily he was able to steer of the side of the road until assistance could come. This is an issue that Nissan is definitely aware of. They will not recall these radiators while fully knowing that the transmission of all 2005 through 2010 Pathfinders will eventually fail leaving their consumers at a safety risk. The replacement of all radiators and transmissions are only covered up to 80,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first. After that, the consumer is on the hook for repairs. Please help to have these radiators recalled!.

23 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

Transmission failure while driving in traffic. Caused by ruptured coolant line, coolant mixed with atf. Replaced radiator and flushed transmission, but damage was already done.

24 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

There is a known defect in the radiator/radiator coolers in the '05, '06 and '07 Nissan Pathfinders which causes the radiator and the transmission to fail. Please help with a recall on this problem, several of the folks still have a payment on the vehicles. You can see all of the probelms that folks are having. Thanks, terry please try to do all you can for all of us, I can't see that Nissan can get by with this. They are just to replace the defect parts.

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

I took my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder to the dealer to have the brakes worked on and while there they performed a multi point vehicle inspection. From this inspection they informed me that there was cross contamination of the coolant and transmission fluid due to a failed transmission cooler. They indicated that damage had already started and it would only be a short time before the transmission failed completely so I needed to replace the radiator and transmission under the extended warranty and there would be a $3,000 deductible cost. In talking with the dealership service personnel and researching online it is clear that this is a common problem and obviously a design failure which could be a safety issue if the transmission fails while driving due to this known problem. My family and I are thankful that just by chance the brakes needed work otherwise my wife and kids could have been driving and been at risk of potential injury if the transmission failed unexpectedly as has been reported by other Nissan Pathfinder vehicle owners. Due to the number of failures that has occurred it is irresponsible for Nissan to just extend the warranty instead of taking a proactive approach and actually notifying their customers of the problem and fixing the known problem under a voluntary recall. I urge the NHTSA to initiate an investigation and hold Nissan responsible for their design failure and protect the public from the potential safety risk by forcing a mandatory recall to fix the problem instead of just waiting for failure which puts the consumer at risk.

26 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2013

The radiator leaked into the transmission causing the transmission to fail at a critical operational point. The vehicle failed to accelerate, bucked sharply and nearly caused a collision. The vehicles was diagnosed with a catastrophic transmission failure. This is the second major drivetrain failure within 8 months. Nissan is aware of substandard deign, parts, and craftsmanship in the 2007 Pathfinder that render the vehicle unsafe to operate on public or private roadways. Please take action before there are serious injuries related to these defective drivetrains.

27 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

Radiator defect leaked coolant into the transmission caused transmission to fail; will need a new radiator and transmission because of this known defect in the radiator. Also, engine timing chain defects in 2005-2010 Pathfinders. Repairs are set to be $12,000 - which is more than the value of the vehicle.

28 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I understand now that Nissan Pathfinder owner (05-07) have experienced issues with the transmission failing due to defective parts. I now have to have my transmission and radiator replaced to the tune of $7000+. Why has there been no recall for this problem?.

29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The faulty seal that separates the anti-freeze and transmission fluid mixed and resulted in the transmission failing. This catastrophic failure that the manufacturer is admitting to but only giving partial remedy as it may not happen before 80,000 miles. I find myself along with many other customers who are footing the bill for the 8600 dollar repair in tough economic times. When buying a new vehicle it should last long enough to finish paying the car note without any major expenses. This issue needs to be addressed immediately as a recall so the consumer can be reimbursed for terrible engineering that any mechanic will tell you. Even the Nissan dealers know is a problem but will not take ownership. Is there any assistance as a consumer?.

30 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

I have a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan sent me an extended warranty on the radiator to 82000 miles, stating that it will crack and leak into the transmission causing damage. My Pathfinder's radiator failed at 109000 miles and Nissan told me that I will be responsible for repairs because it was past the extended warranty. So the radiator cost me about $600 and the transmission failed and cost me $2500. I complained to Nissan and they don't care, I have seen online that this is a major problem with Nissan but they will not recall the radiator, they have horrible service.

31 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2007

Radiator leaking into the transmission causing transmission damage, requiring a new radiator and transmission. Nissan knows this is an issue and has not notified customers to fix this prior to the part failing to prevent major damage. They extended the warranty to 85k miles for that part, but it needs to fail for them to cover the repair. I could have replaced the part for arounf $400 preventing the damage to the transmission, if Nissan would have told its customers. Now I have had to replace the transmission for $4000 and rent a car for one month at $800. The damage occcured when I was driving. Fortunately I was not on a busy highway when the transmission failed. It took so long to fix the transmission because parts are on back order to repair the transmission.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2006

Vehicle would not start. After examining what may be the problem it was found that the engine coolant and transmission fluid had mixed due to a defective oil cooler inside the radiator that caused the valve body in the transmission to fail that controls starting and transmission shifts. Vehicle was towed by transmission shop for a compete overhaul including a new valve body. Cost of repairs total was 3074. 00 dollars. Transmission shop installed an external transmission cooler and stated they were having to make these repairs on a number of these Nissans for this defect.
