1 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

Our transmission started shuttering in 2018. Transmission completely stopped working. There was no milky fluid so we simply replaced transmission with a used tranny. 6 months later 2nd tranny failed with only 1st & 2nd working. We took both transmissions to a specialist. He explained that the current antifreeze does not leave milky fluid and both transmissions were contaminated. This means that the radiator was leaking into the transmission causing the failure of both. He told us this is a known issue with the Pathfinder.

2 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

The vehicle started vibrating very roughly and loudly during acceleration, then suddenly the transmission completely failed while my daughter was driving it on a very busy frontage road to the highway. She was able to steer it onto the shoulder before it stopped coasting; and several people stopped to help her push it into safety in a nearby parking lot. After having it towed to a repair shop, the mechanic informed us that the radiator fluid had leaked through cracks into the transmission fluid, causing irreversible damage to the transmission. Upon researching the problem, we discovered this was a known and acknowedged problem with 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinders, but neither a recall nor a warning was ever issued. We are now beyond the warranty coverage in time and in mileage, so Nissan will not cover any of the expenses to repair.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

I had noticed fluid leaking from under the front /right portion of my vehicle after I parked. I opened the hood and the reserve cap to the radiator had come loose. After letting my vehicle cool, I inspected both the reserve tank and radiator and noticed the fluid was now a milky/frothy substance. After some detective work, I learned that this is a common issue with Pathfinders from 2005- through 2010 that Nissan has ignored to fix. The transmission fluid cooler in the radiator assembly "fails" causing contamination to the internal transmission components ,and damage to the internal transmission computer. There are no warning signs up to or just prior to the failures. After contacting Nissan and receiving a denial to fix our truck under a warranty, I am stuck with a vehicle with several "thousands of dollars" in repairs all due to Nissan ignoring a known defect and not issuing a recall on all vehicles in the "known" year bracket with these issues. I'm sure nothing will be done regarding this issue due to there not being a major loss of lives involved, I. E. Takata airbags, but I find it is my duty to add my name to an already hefty list of other Nissan Pathfinder owners that have experienced this same problem.

4 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who would not diagnose the vehicle. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a cracked radiator that caused fluid to leak into the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 83,200.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2016

I stopped at the gas station to get fuel. I turned the vehicle off and put gas in the vehicle. When I got back in the vehicle, it will not start. . I towed the vehicle to the Nissan dealership in elizabeth city north carolina. After my vehicle was diagnosed it was determined that the internal cooler in the radiator burst and leaked transmission fluid in the radiator and antifreeze had leaked into my transmission. The tech explained that the antifreeze have cause the internal computer in the transmission to not function properly. He stated that the fuse kept blowing out. After speaking with the dealership they wanted to charge me $3000. 00 dollars to replace the radiator and transmission. I explained to them that I had no warning signs at all. I was told by the tech to call Nissan corporation for further detail. Once I called the corporation, an investigation claim was initiated. She told me that some will contact me by Monday (10/24/16). So now its like a wait and see game. I was told that the radiator had a warranty on it up to 100,000 miles of until 02/2017. I did explained to the tech that the failed part in the radiator caused my transmission to get damage.

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While parked, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was coolant leaking into the transmission, which caused transmission fluid and coolant to mix. The mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,687.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

As a single father of three teenagers, I needed two vehicles with enough room and safety features to handle high school and college needs. I bought two Pathfinders, a 2007 se and 2008 le, one for myself and one for my son (which would be passed on, etc). My decision was based on my previous experience with Nissan products and my loyalty to the brand. However, I now have both Pathfinders needing major repairs to their automatic transmissions. The 2008 Pathfinder's transmission failed in very heavy houston traffic while driving with my younger son, which caused other vehicles to slam on their brakes and almost created a large pile-up on a major highway. While we avoided being killed by oncoming vehicles, we were also in danger as we moved the car to the side of the highway. After towing the vehicle to a reputable transmission shop, he found the issue to be a known problem with the coolant fluid leaking into the automatic transmission, causing total failure. Estimates are over $6,000 for rebuilding or replacing the transmission with parts and labor, including the required addition of a "cooler" instead of the radiator. I attempted to file this with my car insurance but was denied coverage. Now, the 2007 Pathfinder is having the same symptoms with slippage and inability to use overdrive, which almost cause another multi-car pile-up in houston traffic until I was able to downshift and move aside. It's only a matter of time before the 2007 Pathfinder transmission also fails completely, and I still owe $12,000 to the credit union on both loans combined. I attempted a loan for repairs through the transmission shop, but was denied due to bad credit from a lay-off last year. Nissan, please issue a recall for those of us without hope and unable to buy a new vehicle. This is your chance to save lives and boost your brand to a higher level, through integrity.

9 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle vibrated severely from the front end of the vehicle multiple times without warning. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission fluid leaked into the radiator. The radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

10 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Radiator defect, that Nissan has known since 2012, class action suit, for Pathfinders and xterras leaked fluid into transmission blowing my transmission. Nissan replaced transmission and radiator but charged me $3,000 as CO-pay. Nissan has been aware of this issue for a while and yet never subject of recall nor were owners notified of this engineering defect of the radiator. Nissan refused to indemnify me for the CO-pay claiming I was lucky I got that from them. When questioned as to why these radiators were never recalled, they refused to respond and stated they were under no obligation to notify owners of this defect. My transmission and radiator went while I was driving the vehicle causing my car to swerve almost resulting in an accident. This is an extremely dangerous defect it is absurd that the owners should have to pay anything because of this radiator that was engineered defective.

11 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2016

Coolant has leaked into my transmission. My vehicle currently has 88000 miles and my transmission has started slipping. I took it to my mechanic who checked the transmission fluid and he said "yeah, it's a mixer". Referring to the coolant that leaked into the transmission. According to him im not the only person who has brought in their Nissan with this issue. I went to Nissan but they said there is no recall. After checking online it seems there was a class action suit brought against Nissan back in 2012 but it seems like I can't be part of it since the deadline has passed. I hope there is a recall soon so I can get my truck fixed.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

Started hearing a loud knocking when putting my car in park or other gears. Took it in for my regular scheduled service and told the service writer at Nissan what was going on. He checked it and said he would not let me drive it and offered a rental , told me he would call. Well surprise $7600 price tag, said nothing about the recall, I found that myself. But he told me Nissan would pay part and my CO-pay is $3000. He told me the inter cooler in the radiator had cracked and leaked, sending fluids into my transmission and killing it. On top of that they want to replace with a re-manufactured transmission. According to the extended warranty guidelines of the class action suit, my vehicle just turned 9 yrs. Approx. 3 weeks ago and only has 79,000 miles. You would think since it's only 3 weeks out of 8 yrs. And within the 80, 000 they would replace for free. I was never even notified of the recall, I have my car serviced at the dealership I purchased from, I don't understand why they didn't tell me or take action before this happened. I have contacted Nissan north America, who knows maybe they will do proper business and fix their manufacturing defect.

13 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

The approximate failure mileage was 124,789. The VIN was not available.

16 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Fluid has leaked from the radiator into the transmission causing corrosion in the transmission. Transmission stalls and shutters while driving it. This causes a safety hazard, due to lack of power and possible loss of transmission during driving. This is a known defect in Nissan Pathfinders.

17 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

2007 nissian Pathfinder -radiator leaked into transmission, causing failure to transmission. Replaced radiator, all fluids and flushed out secondary radiator and reservour and new thermostat, flushed out transmission fluids. Now needs new transmission, which is the most expensive part of the job!.

18 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

We purchased our 2007 Nissan Pathfinder on may 21 of this year. Today makes 39 days we've had it. On the 32 day we noticed it was having some roughness in the transmission when changing gears. It felt like we were running over really rough roads or rumble strips. It continued to get worse the longer we drove it. Then around a week ago I put it in reverse and it continued to roll forward. I immediately drove home to inform my husband. When he checked the transmission fluid it appered to be empty. When he further checked it and clened the dipstick it was a tanish colored liquid that was showing up. I went to google and found that many others with this same or simialar vehicle was having the same problem, and that the problem was a leak in a radiator hose that runs thru the transmisson and leaks fluids back and forth. My husband went to check the radiator and sure enough there is transmission fluid in the radiator and it appeared in the engine as well. So now we have transmisson fluid, water, and antifreeze in our transmisson, radiator and engine. Nissan needs to step up and take care of this problem. Its clear that this is a flaw in their workmanship. We were told by Nissan to bring our Pathfinder in for an evaluation and be prepared to pay 2,500. 00 dollars. Needless to say we are paying a payment already on a vehicle we have had for one month. We cant afford this kind of repair. So now were stuck with a car we cant even drive.

19 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

I was driving back home from my daughters doctors appointment. It was during rush hour traffic time. As I was trying to accelerate I felt a jerk on the card and the o/d light start flashing. I was almost home so I kept driving to make it home. Did not want to b stranded in the road with my daughter. As I pushed on the gas it did not want to accelerate an more, all the lights started flashing and we pretty much strolled into the nearest gas station. I put it in park and waited a moment and tried to see if it would cut back on, but it didn't. I had my vehicle towed to th mechanic shop and he said it smelled like radiator fluid. After doing diagnostic he said problem was to due to a crack that leaked raidiator fluid into transmission. So now I have to replace my transmission and radiatior and computer. Cost would be over $5,000.

20 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

28 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

The coolant has mixed up with the transmission fluid, and it is having problems with shifting. I done some research online, and found out that this a major issue with Nissan and they are not willing to fix this issue. It says that there a hose leak issue into the transmission. Now m car is sitting I n my driveway, dead.

29 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

Vehicle began to shake as if riding over bumps at approx 60-65 mph and then when approaching a stop a jerky shift would occur at approx 5-10 mph. Service engine soon illuminated car would not accelerate more than 10 mph so my wife pulled into a parking lot and shut the car off. The car would not start again and had to be towed. I had the code pulled from the ecu and it reported error "p0717 input turbine speed sensor circuit no signal". After searching online I found a lot of information on defective radiator in 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinder, xtera and frontier which allows coolant and transmission fluid to mix and causes transmission failure which was also confirmed by contaminated coolant in the radiator. This is a safety concern as there were no signs of this failure like so many people have reported until its sudden failure and there should be a recall in place. . Read more...

30 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Vehicle struggling to shift. Diagnosis: transmission fluid leaking into the radiator. Replaced radiator drained and replaced all fluids, still struggling to shift.

31 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

Bought 2007 Nissan Pathfinder fall 2010. Dec 2010 in for oil change at dealership. Sent home paper w/ boxes checked showing transmission & coolant "may need future attention" nothing else brought to our attention. 40,912 miles on truck. Dec 2013- 99,279 miles- took truck to dealership- wasn't heating at idle. Found to be low on coolant, contaminated transmission fluid, and oil sludge in the engine (oil light did not come on) they flushed fluids, refilled them & told us to change oil every 1,000 miles for a few months to ensure clean. Jan 13 2014 another oil change, another checked box stating transmission fluids "may need future attention" even though flushed 18 days ago. Feb 10 2014 another oil change, another checked box stating coolant "may need future attention". This seemed to be routine and nothing more since fluids routinely need changing. Feb 27, 2014 -103,000 miles- engine light on, drove immediately to dealership. Diagnosis: coolant had leaked into the transmission from the radiator ruining both. $5,000+ to fix. Found there are over 110,000 Nissan Pathfinders with exact problem, Nissan is/has been aware of this, but since there is no recall they don't have to inform owners. There is a class action lawsuit. Because of this, warranty was extended to 100,000 mi. But, this is happening right around or after 100,000, it is too late. Nissan will only pay for anything over $3,000, but are installing rebuilt transmissions that cost just that, so we are still paying total cost. Visits show that at 40,912 & 99,279 miles they knew this was the problem did not inform us since they would have been liable. A mechanic of 30 years explained that low coolant and cold on idle means there is a leak which will also cause oil sludge. Visits 1& 2 mos later also showed signs of leakage. Signs were all there and ignored! dangerous if happens while driving.

32 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Driving car in rush hour traffic and car completing stopped. It took about 10 minutes to start. Once the car started it cranked for about 10 seconds before it actually started. At dealership, the car was diagnosed with needing two new cam sensors. After paying $621. 00 for this, mechanic test drove car and found it to be "bucking" and diagnosed that the radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and we needed a whole new transmission. Nissan is requiring $2,500 deductible even after they realize they made a faulty radiator/transmission.

33 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2014

For the past week when ever I drove my car the entire vehicle shudders, shakes and has a harsh upshift when it is changing gears. It happens the most on highways going at high speeds (55-65 miles). I took my car into a Nissan dealership on 1-29-14 to get it checked out. The dealership diagnosed my car with a "broken trans cooler line in radiator which made the coolant leak and mixed with transmission fluid. Advise replace entire transmission, radiator, and flush engine block as well as replace thermostat, (price to fix: $5938. 00 + 9% tax)". I researched this issue online and found this to be a common defect issue that Nissan has been dancing around since 2007, as well as a class action lawsuit being filed against Nissan. I bought the car on July 28, 2011, so I have only owned the car for a little over 2 years in which the dealership I purchased the car from did not inform us of this warranty being offered by Nissan from the lawsuit or informed us of the possible transmission problem. I had the car completely checked out by a mechanic in November of 2013 and it passed with no issues. Now here we are 2 months later, and over 100,000 miles and my Nissan experiences this issue. This can be a very detrimental and dramatic failure, causing massive safety issues if I continue to drive my car, especially on highways going high speeds. I contacted Nissan this morning to see if they are going to stand behind their product and since I am only 11,000 miles over their "warranty" (which has high deductibles), they denied to help and I am left holding a $6500. 00 price tag to fix my car.

34 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2014

My vehicle just completely shut down without any warning signs or previous issues. I have taken very good care of this vehicle and the radiator has a manufacturer defect that allowed transmission fluid to leak into the radiator causing catastrophic damage to my radiator and transmission that Nissan will not take any responsibility for and will cost me upwards of $5,200. 00 at least.

35 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

Was hearing noise from the engine, dealer diagnosed as timing chain guides bad, said this was a "known" problem with this model. 3 weeks after fixing was going to work and the transmission went out, was advised by dealer that coolant had leaked into the fluid from a faulty radiator design on this model. . . Estimated 6000+ for repairs. These are known issues with this model Nissan and the company has offered zero help with correcting this.
