The electric cooling fan bearings failed at 62,000 miles. The Nissan dealership that diagnosed the problem stated that it is common for this vehicle to experience this part failure. I replaced at my own expense with an aftermarket assembly that has a lifetime warranty. It doesn't make sense to replace with another Nissan part that will fail in another 50,000 +/- miles. Also, brake pedal will fade when stopped at an intersection with 62,000 miles on vehicle. The Nissan dealership checked all brake components and could only surmise it must be the master cylinder. They even contacted Nissan for their opinion, which they too suggested replacing the master cylinder. After two brand new master cylinders, the problem has not been fixed and will be an ongoing issue for my vehicle. Also, the rear a/c lines that travel underneath the vehicle developed a hole at one of the mounting points. Lost all freon on two occasions by the time the dealership found the leaking area. The dealership stated that this too is common on this vehicle style and is a design flaw. With freon being bad for the evironment, one would wonder how a manufacturer would be allowed to let this happen.

When I stepped on the brakes they seemed to react normally. Then the pedal went to the floor. At that point it was braking but not as efficiently as it should. The inefficiency of the brakes would have caused me to overshoot the stopping point of the intersection. Rather than stop in the middle of the intersection, I applied the accelerator to get through the intersection. The brakes continued to operate in that manner for the reminder of that trip. On all subsequent uses of the truck, which was to get back to our hometown dealership, the brakes did respond normally. It has been at the dealer since 2/9/20 and they have not been able to replicate the problem. They have checked dtc's, wiring, vacuum hoses, rotors, pads, brake booster, master cylinder, and fluid and cannot find any problems.

Th vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. Ak.
Another car stopped quickly in front of me. I hit the brakes and the pedal went directly to the floor and I hit the car in front of me. Upon inspection after the accident I saw that both bolts holding the master cylinder to the vacuum canister were broken, (pulled apart).

At first the brake pedal was fading to the floor at a stop. Replaced the master cylinder. Condition better but pedal still spongy and then, additionally, when driving, at random times the brake pedal goes down 3/4 of the way before any brake pedal pressure is felt and the vehicle is able to stop. This is very scary as you are not sure if the vehicle is going to stop or not. Dealer then replaced abs actuator with no remedy to random problem. Dealer additionally replaced master cylinder again with no better outcome. Dealer unable to fix this serious brake problem even after consulting and troubleshooting with Nissan engineers. Now we are unable to drive vehicle until Nissan engineer can get to dealer in 2 weeks? to personally troubleshoot the brakes. Vehicle only has 57,000 miles on it and now is on it's 3rd master cylinder and 2nd abs actuator with no safe solution as of yet.
I was entering a parking lot and turning into a parking spot. As I applied the brakes the brake pedal went to the floor and the car proceed towards a brick wall and window. I immediately started pumping the brakes and got a "soft pedal" just off the floor and the car stopped just before crashing into a major grocery store window. Being experienced with cars I immediately checked the master cylinder for fluid which was full. Checked all the wheels for leaks and were dry as well as the lines. I went into the store and called for someone to pick me up. On returning to the car about 30 minutes later I started the car and applied the brakes and found them to be normal. On doing some online research have found this has happened to many people that drive the same platform vehicle not just the Pathfinder. Unitl this problem is identified and corrected there easily could be a major accident involving injurys. I am now driving my Pathfinder with the vdc button in the off position and it was suggested that I also remove the abs fuse as there is somekind of conflict between the computer systems software causing the brake system to shutdown. Some people have spent $1,000 of dollars having systems rebuilt replacing master cylinders, pads and rotors only to find it has not corrected the problem. Repeating this not just the 2009 Pathfinder problem but includes all Nissan vehicles that share the same platform and braking system.

We have taken our 2013 Pathfinder in for brake evaluation prior to the expiration, and just after manufacturer's warranty ran out. The brake pedal would intermittently stop at the specified pedal distance, and then lose pressure and go to the floor. We had this evaluated by Nissan, and a local repair shop to which we were told we needed to replace the master cylinder by both. However, the problem has continued, and we have no been told this is potentially a brake booster issue which Nissan has received many complaints on yet has not remedied the safety issue. So far we have spent over $600 with replacing brakes, rotors, master cylinder, and labor. Not to mention over 5 trips to get evaluations and repairs.
After several complaints from my wife about the brake pedal going to the floor and not being able to stop, I changed the master cylinder. Seemed to happen during rainy days. The front and rear pads had been changed prior. No leaks detected in lines, nor when the master cylinder was removed. Brakes bled, new fluid throughout the system. No air in the system. Proper fluid level maintained at all times. A couple of days after the master cylinder was changed, the same problem occurred as I was braking. It was a clear day with no debris or wet surfaces. Fluid still at max, no leaks, all new parts with the exception of the abs components. Any info, as this seems to be occurring with more owners, would be greatly appreciated.
Pulled out of my house and came to a stop sign, when pushed on brake pedal brakes went all the way to the floor and finally stopped my vehicle in the intersection of a 4 way stop, one other vehicle was at the stop sign also. Drove to sears automotive (closest) to have inspection. They checked brakes, brake lines with no leakage found. The conclusion was that master brake cylinder was leaking inside. Replaced master cylinder and brakes work good now. Checked Nissan and there were no recalls on the master cylinder.
The contact owns a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the brake lines from the master cylinder to the rear of the vehicle were leaking. The vehicle was not inspected but the contact believed the failure was related to the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 11v244000 (suspension: front). The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 38,000.
