Nissan Pathfinder owners have reported 69 problems related to cooling fan (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Pathfinder based on all problems reported for the Pathfinder.
My vehicle is financed through Nissan and I still have 10 months of the note left. I have recently been provided a diagnosis that my cooling fan assembly motor and bearings have failed and will need replacement. Many Nissan Pathfinder owners are posting similar issues with their cars. I have only approximately 68,000 miles on the car. Based on the number of complaints, there maybe an underlying problem with the part. I am provided a $1000 estimate to resolve this issue. I want you to take this complaint seriously and protect the vehicle owners.

Start up my Nissan Pathfinder 2017 and start driving on the street. Then I turn on my a/c and then I heard loud noise coming from my engine. It sound like something was loose and hitting against something in the engine compartment. I pull over to see what was going on. It seem like the cooling fan was loosing and wobbling. I did some research and turn out to a common issue for Nissan Pathfinder 2014-2017 from 30k to 50k miles. It feel really unsafe driving with faulty cooling fan.
The engine cooling fan clutch assembly failed at 47,822 and it sounded like rapid fire going off in the front grill. The ipdm was replaced on this vehicle on 04_10_2019, with right at 50,000 miles. Vehicle was towed in and wouldn't turn off. Crest Nissan in frisco, TX pulled both battery cables, and then pulled the wiring harness out of the back of the ipdm module. They replaced the ipdm module at this time. After they did this is when the following issues started occurring. We back out, turn the wheels to the left or right, and then place the vehicle in drive. At this point we have turned the wheels back to a center position and go to accelerate to move forward. The engine rpm doesn't increase and the vehicle will not move. The truck is running, but nothing happens. After 3-5 seconds, the trucks accelerator pedal will engage and the truck will procced forward. Over 70% of the time, after this occurs, the truck exhibits a loss of power and a loud "roar" coming from the engine compartment. If you pull into a parking lot, turn the truck off, and go inside for a few minutes, the truck will start right up and the loud "roar" is now gone. However, there are times when you go to start the vehicle (using the start/stop button on the dash) and the engine sounds like it turns half a rotation, and then stops. Approximately 1 - 1. 5 seconds later, the engine will continue to turn over and the truck will start. The technicians at crest Nissan originally told us that they couldn't find the issue and that our vehicle was ready for pickup on 07/11. My wife and I went to the dealer, got into the truck, and within five minutes duplicated the problem. We went back into the service department, asked billy to ride with us and he saw the problem. He then kept the vehicle and showed the technicians in the morning. We still don't have our truck back and they don't know what to do to fix.
Cooling fan started making noises when ac or heat is at 58k. Sounds like the fan bearings are shot. I see multiple complaints on line for this. This problem should be resolved before the fan comes apart and takes out the radiator.
The car only has 22,000 miles and the center dual cooling fan has already started making a loud noise unfortunately as a 2015 these vehicles is out of warranty I have done research online and it seems that it's become a very common problem on these vehicle I don't understand why this has not being on recall yet multiple people are also complaining as they replace the part and it goes bad within months so it seems this is a engineering problem.
Cooling fan on radiator vibrating when heat or ac turned on.
Engine rattling, turned out to be a faulty radiator cooling fan. Needed to replace whole fan assembly after 50,000 miles. Intermittently brake lights will stay on when car is parked, draining the battery. Perhaps a brake relay switch. Also intermittently, the vehicle has severe issues accelerating. If going 40 mph, and attempt to accelerate, there is little to no response. From full stop, there is occasionally no response at all until releasing and reapplying the gas pedal. This is incredibly dangerous!.
Engine cooling fan broke at <60k miles-rattling so much nearly punctured radiator.

I got 2017 Nissan Pathfinder with 37,500 miles. Radiator cooling fan started making a weird rattling noise, recorded the video and took it to Nissan dealer. Tech right away said it the radiator fan secondary bushing is gone bad and need to replace the complete fan assembly with shroud, which costs $950 (550 for parts and 400 for labor). I was told vehicle is still drivable and its secondary fan that goes bad which won't kick in untill vehicle gets really hot (summer). Found it online that these fans go bad quickly on Pathfinders and is a known issue. I am wondering why there are no recalls of these fans as they fail so prematurely, some times they have to be replaced 2 times within 50k miles.
During normal operation, radiator cooling fan makes a buzzing noise when hvac system is turned on to any setting. Upon further inspection, passenger side radiator fan is off balance, causing vibration and buzzing sound. With vehicle turned off, fan blade was verified loss. The vehicle has 30,200 miles. During my research, I have noticed many similar issues with the same vehicle between 30,000 and 50,000 miles. With a background in automotive service and quality engineering, it is my opinion that the amount of vibration is significant enough to eventually contact the radiator or break loose, possibly causing a coolant leak or other underhood damage.
Cooling fan bearings have gone bad twice in 75000 miles. The first time it was still in warranty. This is the second time and it is a wide spread problem and Nissan needs to be responsible. Thanks.
Cooling fan failure.
The radiator cooling fan assembly became inoperable at 37,000 miles. This is a danger to the vehicle and occupants as the fans are cheaply made and become loose from the worn out motor assembly.
Engine cooling fan assembly - bearings are out or worn. Car is at 37,000 miles. Dealer wants to charge $1,100. 00 to replace. Known issue based on the hundreds of reports I have seen online. This should be a recall.
Bought a brand new 2016 Nissan partfinder sl in 2016 , at 65,191 miles one evening coming home I heard knocking noise coming from the engine , took it to the Nissan dealer , had it diagnose and was informed the the radiator coolant fan was was defective . I had it replaced November 11/18 2017 , cost us $1268. 49 , on 02/12/2019 the brand new cooling fan fail again at 112,303 miles , took it to the same dealership had it diagnosed and it was the same problem previous . We contact Nissan regional office for reimbursement on repairs and parts our records was denied . Have it fix at the dealership once again cost us $1016. 21 parts and labor . The dealership advise us to keep on fighting for these costs and repairs because it's a wide spread problem with all Nissans cooling fan assembly assembly .
Cooling fan assembly failed on 1/26/2019 at 64,xxx miles. New assy was purchased on 1/26/2019 from tony serra Nissan in cullman, al costing $560. 29 (part and tax only). I r/r the assy myself, as I have experience in the automotive repair field, it took me just shy of 2 hours to replace them (time and care was taken). The service manager (I failed to acquire his name) stated to me on the phone that it is a known/frequent issue. It was a sudden issue, no noises detected on 1/25/2019. A light clicking detected outside only on 1/26/2019 at 09:30 hrs, after a <50 mile round trip to purchase the part, eat, and grocery store stop, on 1/26/2019 at 16:00 hrs, a heavy knock could be readily heard outside the vehicle as well as a loud roar and vibrations detected inside the vehicle with all windows closed, stationary vehicle, and engine at idle. Symptoms would dissolve when the a/c was deactivated. All regular maintenance performed on time, with the exception of brake fluid change. Vehicle is also regularly cleaned.
The car began to shake violently, roar and make a very loud knocking noise. I had just started the engine and it was in my garage and stationary. I immediately turned the car off. Later that day, my husband started the car again without issue. He pulled out of our driveway and proceeded less than 100 yards down the road when the noise and shaking started again. I called the dealer who stated it was most likely the cooling fan (confirmed by diagnosis at same dealer) that needed to be replaced.
Noticed a rattling coming from engine compartment towards the from of my vehicle when in the drive thru. Took it to the repair shop. Bearings in the radiator cooling fan have failed requiring replacement. Have been told by mechanic will cause catastrophic engine damage due to fan breaking apart and pieces going into engine. Searching online shows this is a wide spread problem happening at 30-70k miles on these vehicles.
The cooling/radiator fan makes a rattling noise when the a/c is on, this started after the car reached 60,000 miles. Seems like a common thing on Pathfinders after reaching 60+ miles.
Engine cooling fan makes loud noise when the ac/heat is turned on. And stops when the ac/heats turns off. Only 42,000 miles. Fan seems to wobble a bit.
I purchased my 2017 Nissan pre-owned with 40,000 miles and I have only had the vehicle for 4 months. The back up camera will sporadically stay on while in drive until you stop and take it out of drive. I have taken it in and they can't get it to duplicate so they can't fix the problem. I also started having load noises coming from the engine while the a/c was running. Come to find out it is the radiator cooling fan assembly was shaking around and now I have to pay to have it fixed! I have now done research and found this is a problem that Nissan doesn't want to address or do a recall on. Seeing as that Pathfinders from 2014-2018 most around 30k to 50k have been affected yet somehow these issues are not of concern. I called Nissan and she took my complaint but did let me know that this has not be addressed as an issue by Nissan. I really love my Nissan Pathfinder but I am so disappointed now by the customer service and doing right by the customer is not a concern of Nissan.
I bought my car used about 6 months ago. It has 47k mile on it now and about 4 days ago while driving it I started hearing a loud buzzing/rattling sound coming from the front of the car. I pulled over in a parking lot and opened the hood and found the radiator/cooling fan assembly shaking around like it was totally out of balance. I shut off the a/c system and the fan stops shaking. Since this occurred I have talked to numerous people online that state this very thing has happened to them on Pathfinders ranging from 2014-2018 and it all seemed to happen around 40-50k miles and Nissan will do nothing about it. This seems like a huge issue that needs to be recalled and addressed. Thank you.
Cooling fan starting making noise and it appears to wobble when fan is running.
My 2015 Nissan Pathfinder was purchased in Nov. 2018. It's been in the Nissan shop numerous times since Nov. We have issues with the transmission studdering/delayed acceleration. It cant be reproduced on demand so it's hard to diagnose. You have to let off the gas before it will go properly. Also, the cooling fan assembly has been replaced twice within 1 month with new parts . This 3rd time one of the fans will not continue to blow. I've read online that these 2 issues are very common with this vehicle. Disappointed doesn't even describe what I feel about this vehicle and having a dealership like gray daniels Ford in ms treat us the way they have does not help with the issues.
Radiator cooling fan makes loud noise when the a/c is turned on and stops when the a/c is turned off. Only have 51,356 miles.
Brakes make a clicking noise almost as if the pads are bouncing around at any speed with light brake application. Engine cooling fan is making a racket bouncing off of shroud when the heat or a/c is turned on. It is the passenger side fan. Just bought the vehicle used and only has 50k. Nice vehicle, just wish I didnt have to turn around and make repairs that should not be needed.
At 32,000 miles, a loud noise was heard from the engine area when air conditioning was on. Upon investigation, the drivers side radiator fan was rubbing against the shroud. Complete cooling fan module needed to be replaced. Item was not covered under warranty, dealer repair was $1,000 so it was repaired at the local shop for $600. I had previously owned a 2013 Pathfinder and it had the exact same problem at 45,000 miles. Seems to me like a design issue.
2015 Nissan Pathfinder, less than 40k miles, radiator cooling fan wobbles and makes loud/grinding noise (likes it's coming loose), in the middle of a long road trip. Potential engine overheat/seizure, dangerous to occupants in car.
Radiator cooling fan is loose and makes a loud banging noise when the a/c is on. This started around the 38k mileage mark. This happens when stationary or when vehicle is in motion. Sometimes it'll go weeks without any problems. I've noticed that making sharp turns can set off the wobbling fan, causing weeks of annoying, loud, and quiet embarrassing blunder as if I were banging pots and pans together. If you turn a/c off, the noise stops. When inspecting the fan with a/c off, the fan is very wobbly and appears to bang against other parts resulting in the loud noise. Please help!!!.
The radiator cooling fan failed in my 2015 Nissan Pathfinder causing a loud knocking in the motor . Every Nissan dealership around columbia, SC does not have the part in stock due to it being on backorder. This is for both factory and aftermarket. No dealership knows when Nissan will even provide the factory part. With the excessive rate of Nissan & also infinity's dropping due to this same issue and the demand for this part, I believe it should be investigated ASAP. It is apparent that this is a faulty part on these model vehicles. This is a safety issue because this for certain can lead to larger problems. There are 3 Nissan locations not far. Please look at the statistics for this, their numbers will confirm my complaint.
Vehicle radiator cooling fan is making a very loud noise. After some investigation I've concluded that there is a bad bushing/bearing in 1 of the 2 fans of the dual radiator (drivers side). The noise is due to the fan wobbling while running up to 1/4 inch or so. I have called the dealer to schedule a repair and was told that this part is on national backorder which tells me that this is a very common issue. I have priced one at a parts store and was quoted ~$800. This issue if left unchecked not only is very noisy, but could lead to catastrophic engine damage as this is what cools the fluid that cools the engine. I have also found complaints online of others that have the same specific issue with the same vehicle models. This is occurring while vehicle is in park idling as well as while driving down the road.

Cooling fan assembly, bad bearings in fan motors. Loud noise due to bad bearings in fan. Occurs primarily when the air conditioner clutch engages and cooling fans come on. Also occurs at highway speeds when cooling fans come on. Loud roaring noise. I ordered a tyc623760 replacement fan assembly to replace the Nissan/valeo m154880 unit with manufacture date of 12-15-2012 serial #towm157978. I am reporting this after reading how common this issue is in 2013-2017 Nissan Pathfinders and the rates dealers are charging for the repair. I saw online that dealers charge $850. 00 to 1250. 00. My local dealer charges $980. 00 plus tax. I paid $176. 00 for the part and it took me under 90 minutes to install after watching a youtube video. This was a repair anyone could do that didn't mind a little grime on their hands. It seems to me that instead of issuing a recall on a clearly flawed part, that Nissan is viewing this as a money maker for their dealerships.
My 2002 Pathfinder has a overheating problem. It began approximately 2 months ago. While going down the interstate the engine temp. Rose and the cruise control malfunctioned. A local mechanic noticed the a/c compressor going bad, replaced this and problem still continued and became more frequent. Mechanic pressure tested radiator, it seemed fine, found two very tiny leaks, sealed them, put on a new radiator cap. Problem still continued. Took the vehicle to a Nissan dealer. They replaced fan clutch. Still same problem. Nissan dealer tried flushing radiator. Still overheating. Dealership thinks there is some kind of blockage in the radiator that they cannot flush out. They cannot create enough pressure to flush it properly. They recommend a new radiator. They are supposed to install it in 2 days. Hopefully this fixes my problem. I've replaced the whole engine cooling system. What causes this problem? I've read a service bulletin of this happening to another person. Nissan can't explain cause. Check out consumer complaint: odi case number: 10191259. Mileage on vehicle when problems arose: 85,000 miles.
