After about 34,000 miles I hear a rattling sound coming from engine. After getting diagnosed the Nissan service department in wake forest nc said that it was my fan motor and it's out of warranty. 3 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

Service bullitin classification em09-007, refrence ntb09-128, posted November 16, 2009. Buzzing/whining noise from timing chain area. Have contacted and stopped by dealership to inform them about issue I was having. Showed tech there the service bullitin and they stated that they were aware of the problem and knew about the issue with numerous vehicles. I was given the only way it was covered by Nissan was if the vehicle was still under factory or extended warranty. If it were not coverd that way then I, the customer, were responsible to all the cost and and rental fees if I chose to get one while it was in the service center. I was given the cost estimated at $1800 dollars and there was no guarentee that it would fix the problem. . And have a nice day. Left very frusterated knowing there were thousands more in the same situation I'm in now.

5 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/29/2011

I own a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and have been doing all the required maintenance on it in a very timely manner. It is a very well maintained SUV and had only 49,997 miles on it. I got a safety recall notice on it for the ecm relay issued and took it to the dealer. I was also experiencing some whining noises. The service dealer advisor at the dealership told me that my timing chains had a problem and needed to be replaced. He said this was a serious issue and could lead to engine damage and is a potential road hazard. He also said it needed to be fixed immediately, as this was a known problem, that had been experienced by a number of other customers and that Nissan motor CO. Had issued a service bulletin ntb09-128 regarding this problem. I am really surprised that Nissan did not think it was necessary to communicate this piece of important information to all its customers. My son who is 21 years old drives this SUV on ski trips and I am really alarmed that this defect which was known to Nissan could have lead to some serious road hazards. Nissan has acted in a very callous manner because they did not inform their customers about the possibility of such a serious issue which can lead to road hazards. They did not issue a safety recall to fix the issue. I request you to kindly investigate this issue and ensure that Nissan communicates this serious flaw to all owners of 2006 Nissan Pathfinders and any other model which has the same issue. Updated 03/07/11.

7 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/25/2009

A high pitched humming/whining noise from under the hood on a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Took to dealership and after performing a diagnostic check, they stated that it was the timing chain and it would be $935. 00 to repair. I asked that since the car was only two years old with maintenance records shouldn't it be under warranty. They stated that since I had 65,000 miles I missed the deadline by 5,000 miles and it was o. K. To keep driving and not to worry about it. I researched and found that they have had a service bulletin (ntb07-042a) out about this issue since April, 17,2009. I have had my vehicle in a few times since the bulletin came out and feel that they should have notified me especially since I have paid for another bulletin issue regarding the fuel gauge(reference service bulletin ntb07-069b) that cost me $395. 00. I feel the dealership is negligent in advising my wife to not worry about the timing chain and to go ahead and deal with it later. It appears that they wanted more mileage to placed on the vehicle so they would have a stronger claim down the road to not pay for the repairs that were mentioned on a bulletin five months prior -which means that issues have existed long before this time frame for a bulletin to be issued. I live in atlanta, GA. , a major metropolitan city and I feel that the dealership put my family at risk by advising that the vehicle was safe to drive off the lot because whent he timing chain goes the car looses the capability to function - which is not safe on the busy major interstate system. I have seen a few internet threads that mention similar experiences. Regarding the fuel gauge issue (ntb07-069b), this service bulletin came out August 12th, 2009 I had to have this work done on 04/24/2009 and it cost me the $395. 00. I have also had the vehicle in and repaired at my cost for service bulletin (ntb07-063). . . Another bulletin I discovered today. The main point is a timing chain should not go out at 65,000 miles. . . Vehicle = lemon.

8 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/21/2008

Details: we have been loyal Nissan customers since 1987 and my 2002 Pathfinder started making a loud rattling noise. We had it towed to the dealership and the technician checked it out and told us that 2 screws had fallen out of the power valve and were bouncing around in the cylinder, and there was nothing we had done wrong. It is a design flaw that Nissan refuse to correct. I am told it could have been corrected for $150. 00. The cost of repair the Pathfinder is $7,899. 99 which Nissan north american has refuse to pay. We have talked to their consumer affairs specialist and she refuse to authorize the dealership to fix this problem. After being a loyal Nissan customer since 1987, I do not understand why they refuses to help us. I have a 1994 with over 100,000 miles on it and never had any engine problems. I went on line and find out that many Nissan Pathfinder customers are having the same problem. We kept the oil changed every 2,000-2,500 miles. I need help.
