4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/11/2019

I would like to make you aware of what appears to be a design flaw with the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder hybrid which you should notify other customers of as well. The rear blower motor is used to cool the very expensive battery system and hold off battery failure. There are no sensors or feedback monitoring of the rear blower motor to confirm it is operational. The rear blower motor of my Pathfinder has died 3 times without issuing either a service code or any indication of a system failure. This has then led to the death of the very expensive battery pack. The first failure happened in 2016 at 37,000 miles and it appears to have a modulus of roughly 35,000 between deaths and should be pro-actively replaced by the owner to prevent the very expensive battery from having to be replaced. The only indication to the user that anything is wrong is that the battery light comes on and the car shuts down while in motion. The first time this happened to me I was on the freeway and was stranded in the middle lane until a police vehicle arrived. The next time was in the middle of the night when I was on side streets where the car came to a stop in the middle of an unlit road, with the battery dying completely after an hour while waiting on a tow truck. The last round happened 3 weeks ago (on a Sunday afternoon thankfully without an accident possibility) - the car went into the shop and the very expensive battery was replaced but not the rear blower (as they were unaware of the failure). I got the car back for about 3 days before the car died again with the same error - at which point the technicians identified the rear blower died (again). You should notify other customers of this 5 year old product of the design defect and the need to check the blower fan regularly to ensure the very expensive battery has a long life.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

Have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder se, while driving at 65 mph the car shut off and I lost total power of the car and thankfully was able to pull over without getting killed. This has happened 2x I loos total power and the car shuts off. I called Nissan to see if there was a recall and they said no, however there is a recall #10v517000 which Nissan says my car is not involved in that advised this model had a recall for this very problem having the engine shut off while driving it. If there is a recall for this very reason and I have the make & model while Nissan will not investigate why this is happened as it is a direct safety problem. I was told that I could take it into Nissan for them to see what the problem was of course at my expense.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

On 12/11/2015 at approximately 6:00 pm, I was driving down a city street when my vehicle's engine shut off as I was driving at approximately 35 miles per hour. The brakes locked and I had to force the gear stick into park in the far left turning lane and nearly ran through a red light. I tried to start the vehicle and the engine stalled for about 40 seconds before re-starting. After I got the vehicle started, the "vdc off" and "slip" lights came on. The warning lights are still one and the engine has been skipping. This is the 3rd time in the past 2 weeks that I have been driving and the vehicle has just shut off. The other two shutoffs happened on highways while driving at night and approximately 60 miles per hour.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/04/2015

We are grandparents to 16 grandchildren. We bought our 2014 Pathfinder February 21, 2015 so we would be able to take some of grandchildren on trips with us. On April 4th, 2015 while driving on the freeway with 5 of our grandchildren the engine stopped with no warning. We almost got hit 6 different times while trying to figure out what happened and what to do. The fear that we felt for the safety of our grandchildren is describable. Something no one should have to experience especially driving a brand new vehicle. The engine ended up shutting off 2 more times that same day. We took the Pathfinder into the dealership only to be told that they did not find anything wrong. . . . April 11th, 2015 while driving our grandchildren out of town to a baseball game the engine shut off again. . . At this point we do not feel safe driving this vehicle, which is sad because it is brand new and we paid good money for it. It is back in the shop as of today, April 16th, with no answers.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

I was driving the vehicle when all of a sudden it shut off causing cars behind me to swerve off the road. I am a female the wheel was very hard for me to steer off the road. I thank god that nothing happen to my 8 year old in the car. Apparently someone has to die befoe they do a recall.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

Fyi. . . This has happened multiple times at various speeds. The engine will just shut off while driving down the road. Many times before this I have experienced the shuddering that has been reported numerous times but when the car begins to lose power without warning it is extremely dangerous. My family and I have been extremely blessed that each time this has happened I have been able to get to the shoulder of the road. The only thing that works is to restart the car. Two different dealerships have dealt with the issues and both have done everything they know to do. The torque converter was replaced and the computer was replaced also. We purchased the car with approximately 22000 miles so the lemon law does not apply to us. For the 7 months that we have owned the car, it has been at the service departments half of the time. It is very frightening that we purchased a "like new" car and now my family and I do not feel safe in it.

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving 20 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge indicator illuminated, which meant that there was no gasoline in the tank. However, she had recently filled up the vehicle with fuel. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and it was determined that the fuel sensor failed. The fuel system sensor was reset. A couple of weeks later, while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle shut off. The contact was able to shift into park and restart the vehicle. When the vehicle was restarted, the contact noticed that the service engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle has not been inspected by a technician to determine the cause of the failure. 16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

Engine shutoff without warning in September of 2009, I started to have sudden engine shutdowns in my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. It could occur anytime and was completely unpredictable. The most dangerous times were at highway speeds with traffic behind me. I contacted my local Nissan dealer several times and the suggested a number of possibilities and checked various items without success. I wrote the Nissan consumer affairs department (Nov 17, 2009) and explained my situation and the danger after an internet search revealed the problem to be a computer device called the "intelligent power distribution module" or ipdm. At the time of my problem this device was on back order because of the demand for them. I paid to have my ipdm replaced because of the very serious and dangerous problem of the engine shut-off without warning, since the device was replaced, I have had no problems with engine shutoff and my vehicle runs fine. I can not believe that Nissan is not appear of the problem since appears to have started in about 2005.
