Bought car from win motors today; took to mechanic next door. . Said it was okay; when asked for receipt for testing mechanic said he did not do that. Car drove fine until I got home and when I moved from street into driveway, I heard grinding noise on brakes , but more importantly, when shifting gears a loud sound of straining; paid cash for used car. Really hope I can resolve with 2 day return.

On June 15, 2018, I was driving on the freeway and my Nissan Rogue 2011 with a continuously variable transmission (cvt) started to lose power for no apparent reason, and it decelerated from 70 to 40 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph zone. The engine was making a whining noise while revving at high rpm's. I tried to accelerate back up to the speed limit and it wouldn't accelerate more than 40 mph and the engine continued to rev at high rpm's. I had to pull over to the freeway shoulder and put my hazard lights on while driving 40 mph. I exited the off ramp and stopped at the stop sign. When I tried to accelerate, the car was very sluggish and I had to pull over to the side of the road again because it wasn't accelerating and was driving at about 2 mph. The only way I could drive was to down shift to low and drive at low speed on surface streets. Cars were honking their horns behind me because my car would take 5 - 10 seconds to move forward from a stop sign. I had to stay in low gear because it wouldn't accelerate in regular drive gear. I stopped at an automotive repair shop and was informed that the local aamco transmission shop refused to work on Nissan Rogue transmissions. The automotive repair shop said that it would cost $4,500 for a new transmission. I shouldn't be having transmission problems on a 2011 vehicle. I heard that Nissan extended the warranty for Nissan Rogue transmissions built before 2011. My Nissan Rogue was built in 2011 so the warranty extension doesn't apply to my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift and an abnormal noise was heard. In addition, the vehicle decelerated and experienced a lack of acceleration. The brake and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was placed into neutral, driven to the contact's residence, and lost power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v032000 (electrical system). The contact was not notified until after the failure occurred. The failure mileage was 50,000.

This is the situation that happened with my vehical too, the below statement is another persons complaint as well as mine. I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue but my transmission was installed in oct 2010, I am having the same issues that are happening with the 2010 recall . They are getting the extended warranty and I feel that the 2011 should get the same extended warranty summary: the 2011 Rogue is the car we use for longer trips when we're not flying. About two hours into a long interstate trip in may 2013 we started to hear a high pitched whine from the transmission whenever we would accelerate to go uphill or pass another vehicle. Shortly after we started hearing that noise the transmission was unable to "downshift" (technically cvts don't downshift) and we lost power. We could still maintain a reasonable speed on level terrain, but we were barely able to maintain speed going over small hills. We would have our foot planted on the accelerator but nothing would happen, acceleration wise. Once we'd stop, turn the car off, wait a few minutes, then start the car and get back to driving, everything would be fine. But after a while of extended driving the problem would return. This issue has shown up a few time since then but always during extended driving sessions and never on the day-to-day short commutes, which has made it frustrating to track. In doing a simple google search we found many other Rogue owners describing our exact same symptoms, and even someone that posted a youtube video during their problem.

A few months prior to my transmission fully breaking down, I was experiencing episodes where my Rogue would lose acceleration even as the accelerator pedal was pressed as far down as it could. Mainly these episodes would occur after stopping at a stop sign or traffic light. I would begin to press the accelerator; however, the vehicle would not accelerator nor would the rpm's increase. Suddenly, the "engine" would kick in and I was quickly and forcefully propelled forward. There were a few episodes that occurred while driving on the interstate and these episodes were more frightening and they placed me in a very unsafe situation of being rear-ended at high speeds. Then on September 30, 2012, my family was leaving a vacation trip and heading home on our 3+ hour drive. Not 2 minutes on the road did we experience very loud grinding, clunking and odd behavior from our vehicle as it attempted to shift gears. This noise/feeling seemed to minimize as we drove over 40 mph until it suddenly lost all power. We had to attempt to pull over to the side of the road with our hazards on, and thank goodness no one was driving behind us or I am afraid we would have been in a serious accident on a northern wisconsin highway. Since this occurred on a Sunday at 7:00 am, we did not have any possibility to take it to a Nissan dealer or to rent a vehicle to get home. We were forced to contact a family member who graciously had a trailer and drove the 3+ hours to get us and then turn around and tow us the 3+ hours home. After inspection on the vehicle at the local Nissan dealership, we were informed of the issues and extended warranty with the cvt transmission. I am still fearful of what could have happened to my family. It appears that many people experiencing this issue have had their transmission replaced 2-3 times. I fully support a cvt recall!!!!.

The transmission would not downshift unless it was put into manual mode, vehicle went beyond red line. There wasn't any correlation between speed and acceleration methods. Every now and then a loud thump noise is heard from the transmission. This has happened at various intervals, dealer was unable to reproduce the last time it was brought in.
