Nissan Rogue owners have reported 29 problems related to side/window air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Rogue based on all problems reported for the Rogue.
At approximately 90,000 miles the passenger side air bag failure warning lites activated. The lite in the instrument cluster and on the dashboard in front of the passenger are both involved. I am told by the dealer (mark) at daytona Nissan, that the car is probably unsafe for passengers. . In researching I find this is not a new problem, that it has been the case for some years, and this happens to practically all Nissan Rogues and is a dangerous safety issue that calls for seat replacement to the tune of 2 to 3 grand. This is a safety issue that has been going on for some years and is known to the mfg. They choose to not fix it. How many have to die b4 you folks tell Nissan to recall.

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that passenger occupant classification system was defective and would not operate as needed. Due to the failure, the passenger's side air bag remained turned off while the vehicle was being driven. The contact initially took the vehicle to don franklin lexington Nissan (3360 richmond rd, lexington, ky 40509) where the combination sensor was replaced however, the failure persisted. Upon returning the vehicle to the original dealer, the contact was informed that the vehicle had a defective OCS sensor and that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

We had the drivers rear tire go flat on the highway. Then the passenger side airbags deployed injuring the passenger. There was no damage to the vehicle other than the airbags deploying for no reason! travel speed was close to 50mph.

Driving down chemawa rd ne, then a vehicle heading in the opposite direction turned left onto chetco CT ne right infront of us. My vehicle was traveling at 30mph when we impacted the other vehicle. No air bags deployed on either driver or passenger side and seat belts did not lock up causing passenger to hit the dash board with their right arm. Other vehicles side air bags did deploy.

This is not about an accident. The passenger side air bag in this car does not always come on when I sit in the seat. I am a small adult, around 94 pounds. The dealership did all they could. I did some research and found that complaints have been made to Nissan about this issue since 2013. When I called Nissan consumer relations I was told that there was nothing that they could do for me. The service manager at the dealership expected that they would send an engineer to fix it.

While entering a left turn lane (unsure of speed as was slowing for the red light), vehicle bumped a curb on the driver's side. Did not go over it, brushed against it. No body damage except some scraping on the rims of the wheels. The tires remained inflated. However, the sensor detected it as a side impact, and driver's side airbags (not the steering wheel, just the side) deployed, injuring and disorienting the driver. Vehicle was under control, and driver was in no danger until airbags deployed. Was taken to dealership where they asserted that the sensor acted properly as there may have been a roll over (then shouldn't all of the airbags deployed?). The sensor is way too sensitive and dangerous as I was severely disoriented (and may have briefly lost consciousness) from the airbags and am lucky that I or someone else was not more seriously injured. Following the incident, the insurance agent, the tow truck driver, etc. Were shocked that the airbags had deployed in this situation. Brushing curbs is well within the normal parameters of driving and should not have caused the airbags to go off.

Frontal impact caused airbags to deploy except the passenger front (no passenger) and the passenger rear side (passenger present) . Nissan claims no deployment of side airbag is because no direct "t-bone" impact on passenger side of vehicle was sensed. Nissan also claims that the driver side airbag did properly because it sensed a potential rollover situation. Nissan was moving on city street and hit (t-boned) a truck pulling a heavy loaded trailer that ran a red light. Rear passenger side airbag should have deployed!.

The steering column coil failed, causing air bag to become faulty and power steering to fail. Ability of the air bag to deploy occurred while driving. Then, after "repairing" the steering column coil, the power steering failed while driving and manufacturer refused to repair this related issue. These issues impact ability of driver's side air bag to deploy, ability to turn and steer.

Recent bump in road caused side air bags to deploy, but not the front. Now having to replace entire seat because censor is bad on passenger air bag side. Will not pass inspection. 2008 models have a recall, but 2009's do not.

The front passenger side airbag remains off (sensor light is on) when an adult passenger is in the seat. This begins when the car is started in park and can remain on even driving with high speed (40 or 50 mph). This occurs intermittently. Sometimes the airbag will turn on (sensor light turns off) after a length of time. Other times, the car will need to be restarted. It is most reproducible when the car is already on and then the passenger sits. . Read more...
Takata recall - I have a new 2017 Nissan Rogue purchased in April 2017. While driving in my neighborhood less than 25 miles an hour, my daughter rubbed the curb with the back tire and the side airbags deployed. There is no body or other damage to the car at all. No one was sitting in the passenger seat either which I thought was odd. I was in the back seat of the car because she came to pick me up because I twisted my ankle while jogging and called her to come get me. Two very nicepolice officers stopped to help us change the tire and were surprised that the airbags deployed when there wasn't any damage to the car. One of the officers recommended I submit this form because he had heard of an issue with the takata airbags deploying due to an inflater issue. I had the tire replaced but have not filed with my insurance company as I do not want my premiums to increase. The police officer told me if I decided to claim this on my insurance I could go on line and complete a georgia sr13 form. I still haven't replaced the airbag, seat or seat belt as I have heard it is not cheap to replace. I called Nissan and they told me that the seat belt alone would cost $500. 00. I have hit/rubbed many curbs in my life and have never had or heard of an airbag deploying, especially driving less than 25 miles per hour. Please let me know what additional information you may need from me for this complaint.

I was involved in a car accident with $12,863 worth of damaged to the front of my car. Driver air bag did not go off. . I hit the sterring wheel so hard that I fractured a rib and a swollen chest inside and out. . About 8 months after I bought it there was a recall on the passenger side air bag but I am thinking that the driver side should be checked as well. I was going thru a green light on a city street and a lady ran the red light coming from the other way. I braked and laid on the horn when I saw her coming out and swerved my car but couldn't avoid her. First it was a no fault but then she was proven to go thru the red light. Lucky I had my seatbelt on but that didn't even stop me from hitting the steering wheel hard!!.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Rogue. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle hydroplaned and the passenger side tires hit the curb. The passenger side air bag deployed. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure mileage was 1,400.
Light suddenly came on indicating that passenger side airbag was off when someone was sitting there. (no accident or bumps to car caused this-just came on one morning. ) took to dealer said it was a sensor but they would have to replace the entire seat pad for $2000! said airbags will not function for passenger seat-it is not safe to ride there.
The front passenger side door was closed from the outside while the vehicle was at a stop. When the door latched all side airbags (curtain and in seat) deployed. There was no collision. There was minor damage to the front passenger side door, which appeared to be a "door ding" that had occurred approximately 8 weeks prior to the incident involving the airbags. It was purely cosmetic no repair was sought. Car was towed to dealer after air bags deployed.

The passenger side airbag will not show activated under a certain condition. The condition is - if the driver buckles in and starts the car and puts it in gear before a 115# passenger gets in and buckles in, the air bag on the passenger side will not activate. I have to stop the car and turn it off and restart to get the airbag to activate. Nissan in tennessee(800-877-647-7261, case #22914533) says this is normal. I find this to be dangerous, please advise. . A simple solution is to write in to sense a seat belt connection and activate the airbag.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Rogue. While operating the vehicle, the driver side air bag sensor light flashed off and on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the passenger side air bag warning illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions and the technician informed that the air bag sensor needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred each time. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the vehicles year was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 (air bags). The failure mileage was 65,000.
We were driving and slide to side of road hit nothing and side airbags deployed the front airbags did'nt deploy hit nothing and had to be repaired 6,000 damage but no wreck I don't understand why the repair shop checked for recalls but none. I don;t think my insurance company shouild pay for a defected airbag . We hit nothing and there was no damage to car at all.
I was traveling on a blacktop road with a vehicle in front of my vehicle about 4 car lengths ahead. I had to suddenly stop to avoid a deer on my right side. I hit the car in front of me which was turning left but had no blinker lights or brake showing . Air bag on stirring wheel did not deploy until after the car stopped and I was getting out of vehicle. Side air bags came out but had no air in them.
As reported by many other 2008 Nissan Rogue owners, the passenger side airbag sensor light was flashing, indicating a non-functional airbag (the entire airbag system, driver's side included, we found out later). This particular vehicle was not one of the 200,000+ vehicles recalled (08v521000) for the very same issue with the OCS (occupant classification system). The only fix, according to the dealer (and the subsequent multiple calls to Nissan consumer affairs), is to replace the entire passenger side seat. This is a safety issue because: 1) the passenger side sensor disables the entire airbag system, and 2) a very expensive fix ($1800-$2500) is required for a safety system sensor. In light of the nearly 1 million Nissan vehicles recently recalled (2014) for the exact same issue, the recall really should have applied not only to those initial 200,000+ vechicles, but all those vehicles with the same sensor system that they still have not gotten right. This is poor engineering at it's best!.
I have called the Nissan recall line to put a complaint on my Nissan, rouge, recall no. Ntb08-095a and did not want to accept my claim since they state that my vehicle does not apply under this recall. My vehicle has this specific defect with the air bag and Nissan has stated clearly that they are wanting to fix this air bag (OCS) problem. This is a major safety issue that my vehicle has, on the passenger side air bag being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash. I am overly concern that if I do have an accident that I am not protected any of my family members will be hurt, I would like the NHTSA to advice me what I can do since this has been a recall that I have looked it up in the recall site of the NHTSA. Thanks,.
My father was hit while driving his 2013 Rogue while turning left. Oncoming car hit right passenger side so hard the battery of the Rogue was found two blocks away. The car was totaled. My mother was sitting behind my father on the driver side back seat. Neither side air bags deployed. Both sustained multiple injuries. My father died as a result.
We were attempting to remove the propeller shaft to the rear wheels as the universal joints had worn out and the propeller shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was up in the air on a hoist. The ignition was in the off position, front & rear bolts to propeller shaft were removed, one of the two bolts for the mid-ship mount was out. Our technician then heard what sounded like a firecracker go off. What we found was that the side air bags had deployed! we then accessed the fault codes in the srs system and found the following. B1211 rollover dectection, b1081 & b1086 pretensioner rt ft & lt ft (open),b1145 & b1150 curtain module (open), b1177 ft rt seat belt pretensioner, & b1018 occupant sensor (unit fail). When we checked with the Nissan dealer in kalamazoo, they sent us a TSB, dated 01/27/2014 # ntb08-055c which addresses problems Nissan is having with all vehicles!! we have found numerous instances of this happening to owners of Nissan's. We were using no power tools on the vehicle when this happened. I feel that these bags are deploying on people and causing accidents not the other way around. These vehicles need to be recalled. We have saved the parts that were replaced to get the vehicle repaired, for your inspection. There are many complaints from Nissan owners, on line, that the side air curtains have deployed, at stop lights, when shutting doors, driving out driveways etc. Thank you in advance for looking into this matter.
I am writing to alert the NHTSA to a possible defect in Nissan's airbag control system for this vehicle and to register my dissatisfaction with how Nissan north America responded to my request for a remedy. I purchased this 2009 Nissan Rogue awd at auction on 3 July 2013. Nissan's leasing arm was the previous owner. I noticed from the outset that the light indicating the status of the passenger side airbag sometimes showed inactive, even when an adult weighing over 50kg was sitting in the front passenger seat. However, the problem was intermittent, and brown's fairfax Nissan was not able to replicate the condition when I took the vehicle for a check on 13 July 2013. The problem is occurring more frequently of late, and now the front passenger side airbag occasionally shows that it is active, even when there is nothing on the passenger seat. Brown's wanted $128 to "diagnose" the problem but, since it remained intermittent, was not sure anything would come of the diagnostic procedure. At about this time, I received a recall notice for an ecm problem (by the way, the vehicle initially failed emissions inspection in July of 2013 when I took it to my regular service station, but brown's was able to get a "pass" reading). I asked Nissan north America to authorize brown's to conduct a diagnosis of the passenger-side airbag problem at the time of the ecm repair. Nissan refused. Because this problem remains intermittent, I am unsure how to proceed. I do not wish to pay $128 several times for repeated "diagnosis", but clearly something is wrong with the airbag system. I am submitting this complaint in case other instances of this type of problem with Nissan vehicles might have been recorded. For now and until the problem becomes consistent, I will not carry front-seat passengers.
Passenger side air bag was turned off by sensor when wife sat there.
On November 5, 2008, I started my 2008 Nissan Rogue. Both side air bags deployed. I called love Nissan, where I purchased the vehicle. They sent a wrecker to pick up my vehicle. They ordered parts and replaced the following components: air bag diagnostic unit, 2 side air bag modules, 2 front seat belt assemblies, headliner, and center garnish finishers. They told me the board in the diagnostic unit was bubbled and they probably would never know what caused this. Previous to this incident, I took my vehicle back for the following reasons: purchased vehicle November 5, 2007. On November 15, 2007, I took it back to the dealership due to the air bag warning light. A diagnostic test was performed. Diagnostic: no codes found or stored at this time, test drove, rechecked codes, no problems found at this time. On January 19, 2007, returned to the dealership because of the same problem. Diagnostic test: no dtc stored in system. At this time all working properly. Test drove. Ok. On January 22, 2008, returned to the dealership due to the same problem. Dealership ordered and replaced: air bag diagnostic control unit, passenger side air bag sensor, and bottom cushion frame assembly. I am afraid to drive this vehicle not knowing if the air bags will deploy again while I am driving. This would cause me to wreck.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. While driving 30 mph, the contact was involved in a front end crash. Neither the front or side air bags deployed. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. It was undecided as to whether the vehicle was destroyed. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 12,800. Updated 02/05/09 updated 02/09/09.
