The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. While in a parking lot with the accelerator pedal slightly depressed, the contact shifted the vehicle into drive. The vehicle accelerated independently without warning, drove over an embankment, and struck a tree. The front passenger side, door, and rear passenger door were damaged. Previously, while driving 60 mph, the steering wheel was stiff and the contact had difficulty steering the vehicle. The vehicle pulled in the opposite direction of the steering. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was driven to a local collision center (caliber collision located on 14760 hull street rd, chesterfield, va 23832). The mechanic stated that there was a wheel alignment and steering column failure, which needed to be repaired. The front bumper, rt fog lamps, bumper grill, front camera, fender, wheel and pinion, windshield, front door panel/shell, door handle, door trim, and back door/quarter panel were repaired. The vehicle was not destroyed. The manufacturer instructed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to vaden Nissan of savannah (located on 10421 abercorn st, savannah, GA 31419) where it was determined that there was a wheel alignment failure.
