36 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

Years back iwe have driove our Nissan 2008 to a trip to reading CA we just have bought the car from a dealer in hayward handa. While we were in the hill car could change gear or power we were driving 65 to 70 mpr and went down to 20 on the freeway. Very dangerous specially pooling over and have the car relax this was when the car had only 70,000 miles . We later received a letter from Nissan that need to recall and update computer . We took it in and my husband complained to them that it was making a noise when we accelerated and he also mention the first trip and said to us everything was okay . We never had a problem after that my husband only drive it to work and home. We recently took car to oregon same route reading and as jew are hitting the hill same problem happen. I investigated it this happen to this car and a lot of other customers that have this car have the same problem call cusrtservice and refer us to consumer afffair we are now speaking to a cosumer affair representative they made us pay twice a diagnostic in oregon now in California and I'm pending what they are going to do or help me with this car. My car now has 123000 they have a extended their warranty to 120000 . My problem with Nissan is that they know about this problem we have taken the car in into their dealership before they said it was fine and if I knew about there extended warranty I would have taken my car in. Now the second diagnostic in California that I have to pay 160 they said that I need new transmission and pending in how they going to help me. This not only it was dangerous because I have my 8 month daughter and my son in the car and have it stop and only go 20 mpr in a highway where trucks are passing fast. And also stop every 20 min in the side of the road to let car cool down. I hope they can do something before a family loses there life for a neglected car that Nissan.

37 Transmission Noise problem of the 2014 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 02/10/2017

I bought a 2014 Rogue select 33,000 miles from larry h. Miller Nissan in Dec 2015. Shortly after my purchase in Jan - I frequently experienced my car engine going into safety mode when on the freeway. Having no power. I took to lhm service dept a total of 7 times. Sorry we are not able to duplicate the problem. Last time I took they had an upgrade and said OH it is your cvt transmission it's fried. At this point my SUV was at 114000 miles. I was told by the service dept I had a 100000 mile warranty, they called back and said it was 60,000. Corporate gave me the run around. Finally agreed to pay 70% I had to pay 30%. It was unfair I had brought this to them a month after purchase and 7more times. Cvt transmission replaced I paid 30% about $1000. I picked up my car they said the battery had died but they charged it. I got to work turned off went to leave 20 min later dead. Called lhm service several times no answer, emailed no response. I bought a new battery. Called corp they reguj fed me as it was ujnder warranty. Lhm never contacted me back. 3 months later my alternator went out. My mechanic replaced it $300. 2 months ago my a. C. Compressor went out. My mechanic replaced it $350. So today my SUV started doing the whining noise and engine going into safe mode. I'm now at 144000 miles and the cvt transmission had 12,000 mile warranty! I drive a lot. I also take great care of my car and do not drive fast, I put most of my miles on the freeway. Driving at 70mph and then car engine going into safe mode with no power on the freeway is dangerous. I asked them to google it others had the same experience I was told they don't google if it isn't showing error codes they wouldn't know what to fix. I still owe about $14000 now need a 2nd get transmission replaced with no warranty?? no help from Nissan? Toyota would never do business this way.

38 Transmission Noise problem of the 2011 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

This vehicle is a death trap!! completely lost all power when traveling in a highway . As we were heading uphill, the transmission started making a loud whistling noise and acceleration was gone. I almost got hit by an 18 wheeler as I moved to the lane to the right "slow lane " (trucks). I had to move make my way to that lane and even the slowest semi was traveling a lot faster than my vehicle was . I was in the middle of nowhere on the 15 freeway northbound heading towards las vegas and in order for me to safely exit I had no choice but to risk getting hit and killed by big rigs as I moved to the right and got out at the next exit. Upon exiting I went to park to a gas station and when I hit reverse to park properly, the car didn't move at all!! at the gas station a good samaritan ran a diagnostic and said the error "torque clutch coverter". In other words the transmission. I googled 2011 Nissan Rogue and multiple people have reported the same issue ! where they lose all power while traveling in a highway (uphill most of the time). It is unbelievable that Nissan has not yet recalled this vehicle !! with so many. War death experiences. Coincidentally most issues start at 60k miles once the mfg warranty is up. This is bogus and a total theft by a Nissan to the consumer. They should only sell cars that are safe not death traps like the Nissan Rogue. They've previously recalled vehicles for transmission issues from like 2004-2010 and claim the issue was fixed in all 2011 models but that was not the case. Too many people are in danger while driving this car and endangering the lives of others sharing the road with these faulty vehicles.

39 Transmission Noise problem of the 2011 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

I was traveling to sacramento from los angeles in oct. 2016. After driving for about 4 hours my car started to lose speed. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and I could not accelerate any faster. I pulled off the freeway and waited for a little while and then got back on the road and then warning light came on and never went off. On the way home I was headed up the grapevine (I-5 south) and I lost speed again and pulled over to the truck lane going uphill and my speed dropped as low as 20 mph and that was with me pushing the pedal all the way to the floor. I had several semi-trucks behind me and could not change lanes without possibly causing an accident. I was very scared and once I made it up the hill I was able to gain a little speed going downhill and continued home. Ii took my car to a mechanic and he told me that it was an issue w/my transmission. I called Nissan and since I was barely over my warranty I was told that I would have to pay for my transmission myself and I was very upset as my car had just over 60,000. I started researching my issue and discovered this was a common, known problem with Nissan and Rogue's in particular. This is very dangerous and I hope they do something before someone loses their life. Having your speed drop so dramatically on a busy interstate w/several semi-trucks is very frightening. Since then I have not driven my car on trips over 2 hours away because I don't feel safe. I had this same type of problem months before on a trip to las vegas but just let it go because no warning light came on and I thought it was a fluke. I was completely shocked to see that Nissan knows of this problem w/the transmission and has done nothing to fix it. I now have a rattling noise coming from my car and I'm afraid to see what that is going to cost me. I only drive to/from work and work less than 5 miles from my home. Ugh!!.

40 Transmission Noise problem of the 2013 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

About 120 miles into a trip to virginia from hartford, CT, my 2013 Nissan Rogue began to lose power. My car currently only has 68,709 miles on it. The "check engine" light came on. Flooring the gas pedal, I continuously lost power and just prayed I wouldn't lose power with a semi truck behind me. I made it to virginia, but on my way back I was climbing a hill and my acceleration decreased dramatically. The car began to buck and I could only go about 35 miles per hour up the hill. When I got to the top of the hill and gravity took over, the problem ended. Within a week after finally getting home, I took the car to harte Nissan dealership in hartford, CT. They told me it was my cvt, a transmission issue and that I would have to pay for the entire cost of repair. As I drove away from the dealership, a low grumbling and grinding noise could be heard. The car was bucking badly from about 15-40mph. I turned around and had them look at it again and they basically told me that my transmission was in the process of dying. I drove away again and almost immediately the car was losing power on acceleration, until finally, within about a 1/4 mile away from my home, the car bucked one last time and stopped moving. Again, this was at a busy intersection with cars coming up very close behind me. I have called Nissan USA and they told me there was a recall on the cvt for Rogues only up to 2010. I believe this problem has extended far beyond 2010 to other Rogues, including mine.

41 Transmission Noise problem of the 2011 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

My car has 67,000 miles and needs a new transmission. . . Gets hot and fails losing power and makes noises. . . No acceleration almost had accident. This is scary and unfair I had it looked at and the cvt transmission is failing.

42 Transmission Noise problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

I have Nissan rouge 2010. I bought it brand new. Everything was ok until last 7, 8 months when start with problems. Every time when I drive car more than 45 + miles on highway my speed and power goes rapidly down from 70 mph to 40mph and below with noise from engine. If you try to accelerate does not work. You press pedal to the floor nothing is happening. The worst part is all this come without any warnings. I did some online research and I was shocked that a lot of people have same problem. Most likely is transmission. Yesterday me, my wife and five years old daughter were driving from houston, TX to san antonio TX which is 180 miles, I was driving 70-75 mph on I-10 when same thing happened again I lost my speed to under 40 mph and 18 wheeler behind us almost hit us. We were very lucky that day. I think problems with those small suvs somebody needs to take seriously and those vehicles should be recall before tragedies starts. 06/26/2016.

43 Transmission Noise problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/18/2016

The cvt transmission failed in June 2016 with 122k miles, just 7 years old. I was on the highway with 4 others in the SUV when the vehicle jerked made a howling noise and failed to accelerate. Lucky I was able to coast onto the shoulder without getting into an accident. I went to the dealer for a diagnostic check and they informed me that the transmission needs to be replaced and the cost will be $3600. I have reached out to my local dealership, Nissan north american, and bbb because they know that the cvt transmissions are faulty and may not break until the vehicle is out of the warranty period. Nissan does not want to cover the cost nor acknowledge that there is a problem with their cvt transmissions. There are many customers on various websites reporting transmission failures and all complaints are similar- failed transmissions and Nissan refusing to fix the problem without being paid $3000+. It's shocking that a recall hasn't been done for these transmissions. I've already read dozens of horror stories online over this. I'm shocked that there hasn't been a fatality. It's just a matter of time before all these customers get together and file a class-action lawsuit against Nissan.

44 Transmission Noise problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

Transmission failed in August 2013 with 86k and was repaired by Nissan dealership. This problem existed on 2 occasions with me and I was almost struck by another vehicle since it failed as I was driving on highway. The vehicle jerked made a howling noise and failed to accelerate. I was able to coast onto the shoulder. Dealership informed me that originals parts were installed in vehicle. Now transmission failure is occurring once again and quite recently after getting off the highway the car failed to accelerate after stopping for a light. This has occurred many times within the month of may and as a long distance driver to and from work everyday, I am petrified of what can happen if it stop suddenly. I went to the dealer for a diagnostic check and once again they informed me that the transmission needs to be replaced and the cost will be $4100. Nissan does not want to bear some of the cost nor acknowledge that there is a problem with their cars/rollovers that has the cvt (continuous variable transmissions) many customers on various websites are reporting transmission failures in Nissan as well as on the bbb site. . All complaints reported from customers are similar- failed transmissions. The problem is that the transmission belt breaks with caused a sudden stop. I have reached out to Nissan north american, bbb, and the district attorney office in my state because Nissan knows that the cvt at times may not break until the vehicle is out of the warranty period. Although, they has been no recalls the evidence to date suggests that cvt transmission has become a nightmare for me as well as for other car owners. Since my transmission failed in 2013, it is my belief that the whole transmission didn't not come out but was overhauled due to the cost of replacement. I can't afford to replace the transmission at the moment and I am afraid of my safety.

45 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 02/18/2016

"defective cvt transmissions" I took my vehicle to dealer for an oil change and to have a light knocking coming from somewhere in engine checked. I paid for a diagnostic. I was told that the transmission was bad that I fell under the recall but not with current mileage 131,099. I was told I had to pay to replace cvt transmission. I hear the noise only when the vehicle is in motion not when it's stationary.

47 Transmission Noise problem of the 2012 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/24/2015

When you accelerate, there is a loud squealing noise that occurs from under the hood. I took the Rogue back to the dealer and they told me the serpentine belt was bad. I had it replaced. . . And shortly after that the squealing noise was back again I took it back to the dealer and they me the serpentine belt was bad again! the car only has a total of 34,000 miles on it and the 2nd belt only has about 500 of those miles on it. I also noticed that the Rogue has a vibration to it at times when the squealing occurs . I asked the dealer if there could be a problem with the cvt due to the squealing and vibrations when accelerating and they told me "no". I asked other auto service shops and told me that it sounds very much like the cvt is starting to have issues. I also looked up problems with the Rogue on these issues and see that many others are having the same problems but Nissan is not having any recalls on this however, I did find a service bulletin for one of Nissan's other vehicles(murango) that has cvt squealing and similar problems and that is bulletin ntb 08104 but nothing for the Rogues. Why is that when their transmissions are almost the same?.

48 Transmission Noise problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

The first time the incident happened I was exiting the expressway and after stopping at a red light the car started to make a weird noise. When trying to accelerate through the green light the car would not move for 15 seconds. I even tried slamming the gas pedal down. After that I would always hear a whining noise when driving on the expressway or a prolonged amount of time. When driving out of state to tennessee the car started to decrease in speed on a hill and I was almost hit by a cop. Pulling over at a gas I let the car sit for 30 mins. I tried to renter the expressway and the car still would not move. After a while I was able to get back on the expressway. Once in tennessee the car barely made it up the hills I had to time it just right. On the way back to GA the car began the issues again and while trying to pull off the car decreased in speed so quickly I was almost hit by a semi-truck. I have taken the car in for the electrical recall that did not help. The car has had two complete tune ups nor has not worked. I refuse to pay out of my pocket for another transmission; which has not aided others in this same situation. I have been dealing with this for a year. Everyday it's a guessing game if the car will ever get me to and from work safely.

49 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Cvt transmission went out had a loud howling noise the rpms shot up and down a few times big vibration then nothing.

50 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

The transmission died on my 2008 Nissan Rogue. After purchasing the vehicle in Jun 2008, we heard "whiring" noises. The vehicle was taken to the dealership of purchase and we have the notation that customer complained of whiring. Result was there were no issues. Car has continued to whine through the years, in the past year, it became worse. We took it to our mechanic to be evaluated, and immediately he knew the problem- the cvt transmission. The mechanic did some research and found that Nissan had extended the warranty, very quietly. Since I drive 70+ miles to/from work, my car was already over the warranty limit. Hence, left with 2 options, replacement via a Nissan dealership costing $5,ooo as no viable mechanic will touch the problem. Or get rid of the car. This type of repair was not in our budget nor were we in a position to purchase a new vehicle ( this one was paid for). There was no guarantee when the transmission would go out, other than it evenutally would. Lately, the noise had become much worse and we feared the worst. Thank goodness, the car died in our driveway and not the highway. Nissan knew this was a problem, apparently from the beginning, and is not accepting responsibility.

The approximate failure mileage was 4,106.

52 Transmission Noise problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

Driving on highway and heard a grinding noise on the car. I also noticed car would not drive at optimal speed when gas pedal pressed to keep up with traffic. It felt sluggish and as it was losing power. I turned off the air conditioning system and the car started condensating through the events. None of my previous car have done that before. After about an hour drive the cars hood was extremely hot you could barely touch it. I felt scared for my family as this car does not feel safe at all. Dealer is not taking it back and I've now had this troubled car 20 days but they won't admit it's defective. They said they can change the transmission but only because its under warranty. Nissan needs to recall all cvt cars.

53 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, she heard an abnormal whining noise. 54 Transmission Noise problem of the 2011 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

On July 5th 2012 our recently purchased (from carmax) Nissan Rogue sv awd was taken in to carmax (where car was purchased) in raleigh nc for unidentifiable noise where we were told the transmission seals were leaking. The transmission seals were replaced by the Nissan dealership in raleigh nc. July 27th, 2012 we noticed an odd whining/grinding when driving at low speeds and then when the accelerator was depressed. The whining/grinding became worse over the next week. On August 6th 2012 the vehicle was taken to the Nissan dealership and we were told the transmission seals were bad again and that the cvt transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was ordered on the 6th of August and on the 13th of August we were notified by the dealership that the Nissan cvt transmissions are on back order and the back order is not scheduled to release until the 17th of August.

55 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Problem in July 2012- at a stop light , went to accelerate, and nothing,, kept pushing gas pedal,, took out of drive and put back in , finally went. , kept doing this at unexpected times. No service light went on. Took to dealership, $600. 00, later, they said it was my acceleration cable, and replaced it. . Stated transmission had nothing to do with it. . Still not running well, still makes whining noise - March 2013 started doing same thing with acceleration. , almost got killed taking a left hand turn and no acceleration. Making high pitch noise @ 50-60 miles. Took to dealership -said it was my transmission fluid, it was overfilled and bad color?. $ 200 to change fluid, still not agreeing to change out transmission. I looked on line , a ton of complaints on same issues. . All resulting in the cvt- how do I get the dealership to fix problem?.

56 Transmission Noise problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 09/11/2010

Rogue 2010 after 3000 miles transmission making noise at low speed. Complained to Nissan service department. They told me no problem find. Brand new car with frustration. Nissan service department not friendly at all. They do not care about you. I never recommend any one to by Nissan.

57 Transmission Noise problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

Nissan rouge 2010 - it has only been 5 months since I bought a brand new Rogue 2010 from victory Nissan chesapeake. I received a recall card from them regarding a throttle noise. I took my car for change oil and the Nissan service did a reprogram to eliminate the noise. The noise had lessened. Thinking that it is a brand new car, I did an observation and waited for my second change oil and complained about the noise in my car again and the brake that felt like it's losing a thread when you step on it. After my change oil, I was told that my transmission needs to be replaced. However, the dealer has to order it and will call me back in 2-3 days. A week had passed and I did not receive a call. I called Nissan USA to complain about the service and I have been driving this car knowing that there is a problem and have complained about the break and the transmission. I called back again and the service agent just told me that the transmission is not yet in. I was driving in the rain when the accelerator just kept going even if I was not pressing on it. I was concerned and took the car back to the dealer and was given a rental car. I bought a fully loaded car but was given a lemon car. I could've been dead by now if I am still driving that car for who knows what will happen next if the accelerator and brake will not be controlled. I kept calling Nissan but I did not receive any response. One of the sales in the dealer told me that this was the 3rd Rogue 2010 transmission problem that was reported in the same place. A very unsat costumer service and dealer services by letting an unsafe car to be on the road!.

58 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

I purchased a 2008 Nissan Rogue sl awd in 2008. I began hearing a noise emanating from the front end of the vehicle at approximately 6000 miles. The noise occurs consistently when decelerating from about 40 mph to 5 mph. As the vehicle begins to decelerate, the noise sounds like a rattling against metal. The noise changes to a grinding sound like metal rubbing against metal as the vehicle loses speed. The grinding sound appears more pronounced when at a slow speed, such as when turning into a parking lot. Service manager acknowledges the noise but has no explanation for it and say Nissan is aware of the issue and has a fix for it, so I took it in for the factory fix and have noticed the noise is still there. I believe the noise comes from the cvt transmission, and it is probably caused by a defective cvt belt or the cvt belt slipping on the variable pulleys. Either cause could lead to catastrophic failure of the cvt belt and result in an immediate and total loss of response to driver accelerator input. My Nissan Rogue currently has approximately 17000 miles, and the noise is becoming more evident.

59 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

60 Transmission Noise problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

The contact owned a 2009 Nissan Rogue. While driving under 40 mph, there were unusual rumbling and vibrating sounds coming from the engine area. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times. The failure persisted and the vehicle was traded in. The failure mileage was 1,910. Updated 8/24/10 Nissan advised there were no problems with the vehicle from August 2009 to November 2009. Then in December 2009 a recall notice from Nissan was issued for the very same problem she was complaining about. The consumer had already traded the vehicle. Updated 08/26/10 the consumer stated she received a second recall notice that stated Nissan was conducting a voluntary service campaign on certain Rogue vehicles to reduce a rattling noise that may be coming from the transmission at low speeds. Updated evoq 10/22/10.

61 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 05/28/2009

I purchased a new 2008 Nissan rouge in March of 2008. My first road trip was in may of 2009. While driving on the highway I lost power (very dangerous). I took the overdrive off, put petal to floor, pulled over to side of the road nothing helped. I went to dealership for a noise I heard also on trip, motor mounts were loose but noise did not change. Ay that time I let them know about loss of power. Thinking it was just a fluke because around town I didn't have trouble with power. Went on another road trip and it did the same thing. Specialist supposedly flew in told me it was because the transmission fluid was a tiny bit to high. I told them I bought it off the showroom floor, after blinking of eyes they still claimed that was the reason. This year next road trip and it did the same thing at 4 different times. . . Very scary!!! it seems to be getting worse. My son took it to airport to pck friends up, it happened a hour and a half from home. Then recurred in 5 lanes of city interstate traffic. He was so close to getting hit by the grace of god he didn't. I took it to the city 2 weeks ago and it did the same to me. It is so scary to be going along at 65 mph in 5 lanes of bumper traffic and loose power. Now I am making payments on a car that I could not even trust to drive my kid back to college this year. I have been to the dealership and I have been on the phone with headquarters of Nissan for over a month now and I am not getting no where. Looking on this website it looks like there are lots of issues with this car. . . How many accidents or deaths need to happen before they stand behind there product. Would love any feed back on who I need to speak to next! thank you.

62 Transmission Noise problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

Nissan Rogue 2009 transmission failure at 16,000 miles. Transmission began to make strange noises under load from the front end. Dealer replaced transmission and claimed there is no current recall. A check on the internet indicates the problem is pervasive across 2008 and 2009 models.

I purchased a new Nissan Rogue and within 3500 miles it began to make noise. Second visit to mechanic at about 8000 miles confirmed that car needed a new transmission. After 3500 miles on the new new transmission, noise returned and Nissan has authorized a second replacement transmission.

65 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/09/2008

I purchased a 2008 Nissan Rogue sl awd in November 2008. I began hearing a noise emanating from the front end of the vehicle at approximately 3000 miles. The noise occurs consistently when decelerating from about 20 mph to 5 mph. As the vehicle begins to decelerate, the noise sounds like a bicycle chain rattling against metal. The noise changes to a grinding sound like metal rubbing against metal as the vehicle loses speed. The grinding sound appears more pronounced when making a left turn at slow speed, such as when turning into a parking lot. Service manager acknowledges the noise but has no explanation for it and no interest in trying to resolve it. I believe the noise comes from the cvt transmission, and it is probably caused by a defective cvt push belt or a cvt push belt slipping on the variator pulleys. Either cause could lead to catastrophic failure of the cvt push belt and result in an immediate and total loss of response to driver accelerator input. My Nissan Rogue currently has approximately 7000 miles, and the noise is becoming more evident.

66 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

I purchased a new 2008 Nissan Rogue sl awd in March of 08. It has 3100 miles on it. About a month ago I started hearing a rattle coming from what sounded like under the front of the car. I brought it into the dealer, they stated they could not hear anything on the test drive. As days went by the noise got louder. I brought it back again, this time I went with the tech. He heard it. After hours of looking at the car they decided, they needed to keep the car for a day or two to diagnose the issue. I got a rental and they had it for a day and a half. I started reading up on this on Rogue forums and the are 100's over people having this same problem. Svc mgr told me the problem was a problem with the transmission tnat Nissan USA was aware of, and they were going to replace it. They thought the car was safe to drive since there had not been reported failures. So, they gave me the car back while I waited for the new tranny. A week later after not hearing from the dealer, I called and was told, as it turns out they were not going to replace the tranny because it has been done in other Rogues and not fixed the issue. He stated, there is no fix, but Nissan is working on the problem. When I voiced my concerns over the possibility of a failure on a highway at high speeds, he said. . Well there haven't been any yet!! as I stated there are many many Rogue owners with this problem. Something has to be done to force Nissans hand. Please help before there is a failure and someone is seriously injured or even killed.

67 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/06/2008

I have a transmission rattle/clanking noise which is fairly constant in the car, except at high acceleration. I have complained numerous times to Nissan about the problem, but Nissan is currently considering this sound normal. It has been getting worse, and I am concerned about a transmission failure, which could cause an accident.

Continuous problems started under 35mph and now are present at highway speeds. Nissan claims its might be normal and that there may be no solution to a problem they cant figure out. Additionally they say it will not cause harm, however, if they do not know what it is, how can they say that?.

70 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

Shortly after purchasing a 2008 Nissan Rogue sl awd, I began experiencing a grinding, rattling noise coming from which I now know is the cvt transmission. Started at less than 3000 miles, very faint and inconsistent but becoming much louder, more consistent and unmistakable. After the third trip to my dealer about this noise and several other issues I am having with my 5 month old vehicle including a major water leak, they finally got on the phone to Nissan USA. The service manager advised me that Nissan is aware of this transmission "issue", they are working on a fix, there have been many transmissions replaced but that is not correcting the problem. I was told to sit tight and wait for Nissan to come up with a resolution. I was told that the vehicle is safe to drive because there have been no reported failures from this issue. My problem is, which Rogue owner with this problem (and it seems like there are many) is going to be the first one to have a transmission failure at highway speeds? I currently have less than 5,000 miles on my Rogue and don't trust it.
