7 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 10/24/2008

Nissan Sentras, 2002-2006, have a perpetual problem with long engine cranks before the engine will start and is detailed in TSB number ntb05-052a. The remedy for this problem is to install part numbers 22670-8u70c and 17342-01a00, which is a fuel pump repair kit and fuel tank gasket. The long cranks can cause premature failure of the engine starter and possible overheating. When Nissan customer service was contacted with this issue, they stated this is not a known issue because a recall was never announced even though they produced a TSB. They refused to take responsibility for an evident design flaw which prompted a repair kit be produced to remedy the situation. They do not stand by their product and provide a recall which is needed.

8 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra. Engine service light came on and within a week I was unable to pump gas into my tank at a normal pace. Only able to put in a little at a time without gas shooting back out of the tank. Within a couple of weeks, I was unable to start my car. I was told that the vent control valve was malfunctioning and that it would not effect the running of my car, but now I am $500 looking a new fuel pump. I have noticed online multiple complaints from other Nissan owners with the same problems. Is someone looking into the on going problem? I bout this car for the fuel efficiency and the well known reputation of a long lasting car. Not very satisfied when it is only 3 yrs old!!!!.

14 Fuel Pump problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 10/10/2005

Severe engine failure. I bought my 2002 Nissan Sentra spec-v with only 7,000 miles on it and thought I had a great car. Thank goodness I opted for the extra 100,000 extended warranty. My car's engine experienced massive oil consumption around 60,000 and I noticed the whole time I owned the car that the oil was always low each time I changed it. I used only mobil 1 full syn every 5,000 miles. The engine failed 3,000 over the standard 60k powertrain warranty. I fought with Nissan for 1 month while they kept my car until I provided oil change receipts. Once I provided them they changed the complete engine which totaled $8,500 and more than the car was worth anymore. Further for about 70,000 the car had extended crank problems and were severe in hot or extreme cold weather. The car would take 20 seconds or longer to crank over while pumping the gas. After my 3rd complaint at my 3rd Nissan dealer they finally fixed the problem and put in a new fuel pump and sensor. The car has 98,000 and 36,000 miles after the new engine. I am thinking of getting rid of it before more trouble happens beyond my 100k warranty.

15 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 10/05/2005

Purchased a new Nissan Sentra in Jan. 03'. Started noticing long engine crank before start by Mar. 04'. Dealer visit in Mar. 04' found no problem. Problem persisted until Sep. 04'. Took vehicle to another dealer, problem was diagnosed as a fuel pump issue. Fuel pump was replaced at that time under warranty. A Nissan technical bulletin/service bulletin was issued in Jun. 05' detailing the specific issue. In Sep. 05' long crank problem returned. My vehicle is no longer under general warranty and the fuel pump is no longer under parts warranty and Nissan is refusing to help. The replacement fuel pump has the same problem as the original and now Nissan expects me to pay to fix the problem, although they have acknowledged the issue via their own technical bulletin/service bulletin. This makes no logical sense.

16 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 02/28/2005

Experienced delay in starting. Engine took forever to turnover. Diagnostic details revealed nothing wrong, in fact the car would start normally whenever the dealer tried. Problem continued and after two trips to the dealership--they refused to believe that there was a problem--I was told to leave it overnight. They finally experienced the problem themselves. They pin-pointed the problem--the fuel pump was faulty. It was replaced under warranty and problem ceased.

17 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 02/16/2005

This is a 2003 Nissan Sentra gxe, less than 2 months out of warranty and under 300 miles out of warranty. The first service date after the end of warranty, the dealer recommended a new fuel pump for the non-starting problem. The dates below show this problem with the fuel line was well-documented long before the warranty went out. I have taken it to the dealer 6 times in the past 18 months for the same problem. 06/11/04-- check engine light, dealer replaced spark plugs 08/09/04-- check engine light, dealer replaced coil assy-- ignition 06/25/05-- check engine light, no action by dealer-- but dealer said next time the light came on, a new fuel pump would be required. This happened out of town, so I only went to this dealer once. 07/26/05-- check engine light, no action by dealer because previous dealer did not record his diagnosis in file. 08/19/05-- car turning over but not starting. Aaa checked battery and said the battery was fine. Towed car to dealer. Dealer said car was flooded, cleaned out spark plug tubes, but did not fix cause of the non-starting. 10/21/05-- check engine light on, no action by dealer 12/23/05-- warranty runs out once in Jan. And once in Feb. 2006, the car did not turn over. When I took car in for routine oil change on February 16, 2006, advisor recommended a new fuel pump at cost of $695. The dealer called and asked Nissan USA for a goodwill claim which was denied. On Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, I called Nissan USA to file a request for this to be covered under warranty, considering the long record of this problem under warranty. I was to hear back in 24 hours. I made multiple calls through the week and received no answers and only one phone call back-- on Thursday-- to tell me that the file had been misdirected and that I should hear later. On Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, I called again and was told the claim was denied. The service rep. Could not tell me why and the advisor was not available.

18 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/31/2004

Ever since I bought my car in Aug. 2004 it has had a long crank problem. I took it back to the dealership not long after I bought the car for this problem and was told that there was nothing wrong with the car. They now tell my that the fuel pump is losing pressure and I need to have a fuel pump repair kit installed on my car at a cost of $550. 00 to me. I had my car in the shop for another problem when they told me that I needed this repair kit for a long crank problem because the car does not start when you first turn the key. The same problem that I have had with the car since I bought it. I do not think I should have to pay for this repair since it is a problem that I have tried to get them to fix when it was under warranty.

20 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

Approximately June of 2004 my Sentra began to have extended crank times to start, especially after sitting for more than a few hours. I took it to the local dealer who diagnosed the issue as a faulty check valve in the fuel pump. They replaced the fuel pump assembly under warranty. This issue has happened again under warranty. The third time the dealer replaced the fuel pump under warranty even though the Sentra was 1500 miles out of warranty. The car is now at 82000 miles and the beginning to have long crank times again.

22 Fuel Pump problem of the 2001 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/21/2003

I have had multiple ongoing problems with this vehicle. . I have had to bring it in four times for an inoperative horn. I would discover that horn was not working, I'd bring it in and it would function, then a couple of months would pass and again it would be inoperative. They finally replaced the harness, and it has been working for 2 straight months. This might not seem like a big deal, but it is a safety issue. I have brought it in twice for a broken ignition wire. The first time they were unable to locate the problem. The car was released to me and two days later I had it towed in because it was dead. I have had break issues, my breaks were apparently warped and not functioning properly. The latest thing to go was the fuel pump. I was driving on the highway, in the middle lane, during rush hour when the car just stopped. I had no where to go and was stuck in the middle. A frightening experience. I am now told that they don't know when my car will be fixed, nor are they willing to provide me with alternate transportation. Am I just supposed to acceptt that all of this goes wrong with my 2001 car? I bought a new car so I would have safe and reliable transportation. This has yet to happen. These problems have plagued me since the beginning and its only getting worse. I am at kelly Nissan with a major issue an average of once every 3 months. I do not believe this car is safe to operate. What are my rights as a consumer?.
