Refueling:
this 2004 Nissan Sentra 1. 8s has had issues when refueling. The tank is not properly vented thus leading to a rush of pressure once the fuel cap is opened. This results in gasoline rushing up through the filler neck and spilling out. In addition, the tank is hard to fill as station nozzles do not permit refueling if the tank is not venting correctly while fueling; the station pump automatically stops fueling. This is a hazard as raw gasoline and outside environments do not relate. A simple google search on "04 Sentra fuel tank" will return hundreds if not thousands of owners with the 2004's who complain about the same exact issue regarding the venting of the tank. The 2005 models were recalled but Nissan left the 2004 owners aside; they know the 2004's have the same issue as the 2005's that were recalled.

Engine light is on then realized that I was having problem getting fuel into gas tank. Once opening the gas cap a gush of gas fumes comes out. Can not get gas in tank with out gas pump cutting off all the time. It takes for ever to get gas into tank. Vehicle taken to Nissan dealer they told me it was gas tank and that a similar problem was discovered on another model a recall was done on that model not on my vehicle model. They expect me to pay 100. 00 for new gas tank. This is a safety concern due to the fact the rush of gas fume pressure that rushes out when fuel cap is open to refuel vehicle. Dealer states that fuel tank sensor is causing problem.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Sentra. While the vehicle was idling with a full tank of gas, the pressure in the gas tank forced fuel out of the tank and caused gasoline to leak out. Whenever the contact would place fuel into the vehicle, the gas pump would automatically stop indicating that the tank was full, when in fact it was nearly empty. He then began to notice leaks on his driveway and took the vehicle to the dealer. He was informed that a new gas tank and fuel filter were needed. The vehicle is currently being repaired at the dealer. They covered half of the repair costs. The failure is identical to NHTSA campaign id number 05v269000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage) for an earlier model of the same vehicle; however, his VIN was not included in the recall. The current and failure mileages were 131,000.
While refueling the vehicle consumer was informed that fuel was leaking from the fuel filler neck. Previously consumer noticed that fuel seemed to be evaporating from the fuel tank.

Fuel filler metal flap became loose and fell into the fuel filler tube, causing an obstruction that prevents gasoline from flowing freely into the fuel tank when pumping. As a result gasoline overflows and spills from the fuel filler tube, potentially resulting in fire or personal.
