I noticed a sound coming from my backend. When I got home I opened my tailgate I found that my driver side leaf spring shackle had failed and the leaf spring had punctured my bed. I took it to the dealer only to find out the $2000 warranty through wheelz I purchased did not cover it. It seems to be a common thing yet Nissan isn't doing anything about it.

I didn't hauled any heavy load in my Nissan Titan 2006 at the time it happened to the broken leaf spring shackle. As I driving I felt the truck have an odd moving motion on the road. I parked the truck and the truck bed seems like its lop-sided when you look straight to the truck bed. I look underneath the truck bed and saw the rear driver side leaf spring shackle broken apart and punctured a large seam to the top of the truck bed.
My rear leaf spring shackle snapped punching a hole though the truck bed opening it up like a tuna can while I was on the highway and nearly lost control in a construction zone where there were quite a few people working on the side of the road. Did some investigating and it seems like a pretty common problem for the 04-07 Titans and am wondering why I (or the thousands of others who've had the same problem) were not informed about this from the fine folks at Nissan before people get killed. I would have paid to replace them myself had I just been told. . . . . Its not about the money. . . Safety is number one in my book especially when I'm hauling around my 18 month old in something that the factory knows has a life threatening defect and doesn't tell anyone!!!!!!!!
sincerely
pissed!!.

This vehicle has more common failures than any I have seen. Both of the rear leaf spring shackles rotted out. The rear axle seals are now leaking. In 6 months I have replaced 2 oxygen sensors and now for the 2nd time I am replacing the evap canister control valve. Nissan seems to ignore all of these issues and has redesigned many of these problem areas in newer models however does not own up to fixing the issues on vehicles that are on the road.
Left rear leaf spring shackle fractured on a smooth road, causing the leaf spring to impact and deform the bed and degrading handling.
Lowered tail gate to load and noticed a large bump in the bed liner. Upon inspection I found the leaf spring shackle had broken and the spring had gone thru the bed of the truck.
Tac-welds broke on left rear leaf spring shackle. Causing the rolled portion of the shackle to extend out causing the leaf spring to hit the underside of the truck bed. The left side rear of the vehicle dropped down approximately 3-4" inches causing handling difficulty.
2006 Nissan Titan se king cab 4x4 offroad bigtow. The driver's side leaf spring shackle unraveled at the weld and the leaf spring shot through the bottom of the bed and created a big hole. I contacted Nissan hq to the conclusion that they will not cover the repair since I purchased the truck pre-owned w/ 44,xxx miles. This malfunction has been reported numerous times online and on the NHTSA site. It seems that Nissan is aware of the weak shackles for model year Titans 2004-2007 because they redesigned and strengthened the shackle in 2008 and up models. I had a local mechanic replace the shackles w/ 2008+ Titan shackles and plug/weld the hole.
Was doing normal road driving when I heard a loud bang. Did a quick visual inspection when I had a chance to stop but did not notice anything as I was driving at night. The next day I looked once again and noticed a hump in the bed of my truck and the seems of the bed had been separated. I looked underneath the vehicle and saw that the leaf spring shackle had busted and went through the bed of the truck.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the rear leaf spring shackles that held the brackets was punching a hole through the bed of the truck. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the spring would need to be replaced at the contacts expense. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who stated that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.
2006 Nissan Titan 4x4, while driving on trip with young daughter heard loud bang from rear of truck. Observed road for any debris I may have hit, found nothing. Performed quick inspection on side of road & saw nothing, continued trip & noticed bad ride from suspension. Reinspected after arriving home & found that one of the leaf spring shackles had snapped in two and threw the leaf spring into the bed of the truck causing a hole in the bed. The failed shackle also caused excessive pressure to the shock absorber causing it to fail also. Replaced the shackles and shocks but still have a bad rattle coming from rear end. Aarg!!!!.
Leaf spring shackle broke at weld, and rear passenger leaf spring pushed through the body of my pickup bed . It wasn't that distinguishable, it sounded like a clunk in the rear and that was it. I will contact Nissan and see what they say. However, I will be purchasing aftermarket shackles today for install.
The vehicle was being driven around a turn with no load in the bed. The rear passenger side leaf spring shackle broke at the weld. Control of the vehicle was almost lost.
The driver side rear leaf spring shackle came apart at the weld and the back of the leaf spring punched up through the bed of my truck. This happened while driving and was not accompanied by any loud noise or any indication that something had gone drastically wrong. This is a 4x4, off-road/work truck. These shackles should never break, let alone only after 3 winters. Upon further inspection, I also found that the passenger side rear leaf spring shackle is showing signs of stress and cracking. I had it towed to a Nissan dealer and was told they could not do anything for me. I called Nissan customer care and haven't heard any info from them either. I have had truck towed out of Nissan dealer and have obtained some heavy-duty aftermarket shackles which I plan to install.
