Rear axle leak - 2006 Nissan Titan cc 4wd with 39000. Driver side rear axle seal starting leaking. Concern due to the proximity to brake/brake caliper.
I was driving the vehicle when I heard a loud noise. I thought I may have hit, or run over something, but saw nothing in or along the road. I didn't notice anything at first, and then my wife noticed a raised area of the truck bed on the driver side near the tailgate. We looked under the truck and saw that the spring shackle was broken, and the end of the spring was lodged up against the underside of the bed. I tow a 6500lb. Camper with this truck, but was not in tow at the time of the incident.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. When the contact pulled to a stop sign, the rear differential locked up. The veicle was towed to the contact's residence and was awaiting inspection by the dealer to determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 64,130 and the current mileage was 65,130.
While loading truck for a vacation trip, I noticed a large bulge coming up through the truck bed in the left rear portion. Upon further inspection, the left rear shackle holding holding the leaf spring to the frame snapped in half. The truck is a garage kept, 35,000 mile limited personal use vehicle. If I had not been going away, the spring would have pushed its way through the bed.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Titan. He stated that while driving 65 mph the rear suspension would hit against the structure of the vehicle which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who advised him to take the vehicle to another dealer. The failure and current mileages were 37,000.

The leaf spring bolt broke and caused the rear axel leaf spring to shoot through the bed of the truck. On inspection the other leaf spring was ready to also break. This was discovered while turning a corner on the road. Passenger and driver side shackle, clips, spring assemble, bolts needed to be replaced. All parts on both sides of the truck needed to be replaced since the other one was found to be defective also. All parts were replaced with new parts at our expense. Nissan stated it was normal wear and tear. However, several master mechanics stated they have never seen this happen.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Titan. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact heard a loud squealing noise outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on five different times. The rear rotors and brake pads were replaced on two different occasions. Currently, the vehicle was being repaired with the replacement of both rear axles, and rear brakes. There was a recall 10v072000 (service brakes, hydraulic: pedals and linkages); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 500.

Rear axle seal leak.
Complete rear end failure of my 2005 Nissan Titan while driving 45mph on the highway. Failure happened at 62500 miles and is the first time to my knowledge (pre-owned). Rearend is being replaced by Nissan service center at a cost of $3500 that has to be paid personally as the truck is currently 2500 miles outside of the drivetrain warranty and it appears doubtful that Nissan will assist or even acknowledge the severe design flaw.
Normal driving conditions and habits 2004 Nissan Titan crew cab pre-mature failure of rear axle seals both left hand & right hand rear axle seals are leaking @ 54,000 miles. Rear differential oil on inboard sides of brake discs due to leak/s causing reduced braking action. Seals will be replaced possibly dictating axle replacement because Nissan has no tooling to remove the axle bearings.
2004 Nissan Titan rear axle differential is out 108, 000 miles. Water was found in case due to seals going out due to breather hose clogging and not working correctly.
Right rear axle seal leaking.
I have a 2006 Nissan Titan with 31,000 miles on it. The rear bracket that holds the passenger side leaf spring snapped at the bend and sent the entire leaf spring assembly through the floor of my pickup bed. I have contacted Nissan and will be dropping the truck off tomorrow. I have seen numerous complaints of this on the internet. It seems that the original shackle wasn't strong enough for normal driving. Hopefully they will replace the shackle and truck bed.
The rear passenger side shackle that holds the spring to the frame cracked off and sent the rear spring up through the bed of the pickup truck.
Left & right rear seals leaking on my king cab 05 Nissan Titan. I had the 60,000 mile service done in early July 2009, at the dealership. The approximate mileage on my truck at that time was around 66,000 miles. Upon completing the job, the next day, most of the transmission fluid leaked out of my truck. The dealership came to my house and repaired the leak and topped off the transmission fluid. They said that it was a failed hose clamp. They took my truck back to the dealership to look it over to confirm that everything else was ok. They also check on a fan recall that was pending. They told me that no repairs were necessary. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that transmission fluid appeared to be leaking again from the front end. I took my truck in earlier this week and the dealership replaced a leaking transmission hose at no charge. They informed me at this time that my left and right rear seals were leaking very bad. They also informed me that I have a power steering leak. I don't understand why these issues were not addressed in July when the 60,000 mile service was done unless it just recently started. They told me how much it will cost to do the repairs and advised that I take care of it ASAP!.
Rear shackle in 2004-2008 Nissan Titan is weak design, prone to failure. I have proof of several documented cases in which the rear shackle unfolds and the leaf spring slams through the bed of the truck, which can result in sudden loss of control. It has happened during normal driving conditions, as well as when towing, off-roading, etc. To correct the problem, before it happens, all that needs to happen is to replace the shackles before they fail and become a safety concern. If the shackle fails, it must be replaced, and the entire suspension system needs to be inspected for safety, and the bed must be replaced.
2006 Nissan Titan is leaking axel fluid at 45,000 miles. I'm told by other Titan owners that they had to replace the rear axel. If not, the truck can become unstable while driving. Repair shop (who does not do this type of work) states that the rear axel needs to be replaced.
The spring shackles on my 2006 Nissan Titan are defective. One broke at around 25,000 miles and the second one at around 40,000 miles. The springs shot up into the bed of my truck on both occasions denting the bed and causing me to almost lose control. I had my truck towed to a Nissan dealership the first time and had the shackle replaced and I asked if this was a common problem and inquired if I should have the other side replaced they said no it wasn't common the spring shackles on this vehicle are a serious safety risk, if they had broke while I was driving on the highway at a higher speed I would have been in a serious accident.
Rear axle fittings are leaking grease onto brakes.
Right rear axle seal blew out and leaked differential fluid. Differential fluid leaking on rear brake rotors which could cause brake failure, which was a major safety concern to me. At time of failure at 8000 miles no suspension modifications had been done to vehicle. Also, the rear differential oil will slowly leak and cause the rear differential to lose fluid and fail. Nissan replaced spacer axle (43070-7s200), bearing (40210-7s210), and seal (43252-7s200). As this seemed to be a very common problem with the Nissan Titan, Nissan should address this issue and offer a permanent fix so would not be faced with the safety issue in the future.
I have 27,000 miles on this truck, I was in 2 times for brake problems the last time they said it was fixed right due to the new brakes. I have the problem again at 27,000 miles and they say warranty is out!! this was under engineered and now its my problem. Also the rear spring shackle broke sending the leaf spring into the bed of the truck denting it. I bought after market shackles and found the other side was cracked.
I am a professional engineer seeking your office's assistance on resolving an issue related to the unexpected collapse of the rear suspension system on my vehicle, and also to bring to your attention the dangerous situation that thousands of owners and operators of these vehicles on the roads nationwide are exposed. I am the owner of a 2005 Nissan Titan pick-up truck purchased new in January 2005. The vehicle has 78,000 miles, is well maintained, and mainly used to commute to work. It is not driven off-road, nor it is used to carry heavy loads. A shackle supporting the left rear suspension leaf spring assembly failed. The assembly collapsed, perforating the truck bed as shown on the enclosed photos. [?fortunately?, it occurred in my driveway and not while driving on a public road; otherwise the consequences could have been catastrophic due to the loss of vehicle control]. I immediately notified the Nissan dealer (1-860-448-0050). The technician indicated that the vehicle was out-of-warranty; therefore, he had to contact Nissan corporation for instructions. Please note that the vehicle is still under warranty for rust (60 months-unlimited miles). Furthermore, such a major structural failure is beyond any warranty coverage limitations because it is not supposed to occur. The vehicle has failed, within four years, to provide one of its major intended and implied uses, which is to provide transportation to its operator and passengers in a safe manner and furthermore, not pose a risk when operated on the roads by exposing other drivers and property to injury and damage. Other Nissan Titan owners had the same problem. Nissan was aware of the problem since it beefed-up the shackles on their 2008 models, but older models still have the problem. How can I email photos of the failure. Your intervention is requested.
