1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/29/2021

The instrument panel fuel gauge inaccurately displays that the vehicle still has some fuel, at one quarter tank, when the fuel tank is actually empty. This could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall on the highway, which could cause a crash. There is a recall for this but was told that my truck was not affected even though it is having the same issue.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

Immediate recall needed on all Nissan Titans with limp mode for def expiration. Deadly consequences possible and not avoidable. I have recently discovered that the Titan is a deadly vehicle in several ways. Most recently I discovered the fact that def fluid ages to the point of causing the vehicle to go into a limp mode of 5mph with no disabling the limp mode. Unsuspecting diesel owners have no way of knowing if the def they purchased has expired or the def in their tanks has gone bad. If the vehicle is in an area that has drastic climates such as sub zero or extremely hot, driver and occupants of vehicle may die of exposure. There is no warning for the def failure for impending failure of the emission system as I have just experienced. I believe that not making Nissan and others to not recall this dangerous built in child killer would be a tragic mistake by the safety commissions.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

1/ I was driving on highway when truck just shut down . Fuel gauge reads that truckhas 1/4 tank left of fuel but gas tank empty. 2/ while driving the brake pedal goes to the floor like it has no brakes. I check the fluids and its full. Turn the truck off and on and it works again .

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/02/2020

I was driving on a city street and stopped for a red traffic signal to make a right turn onto a highway. Without any warning the engine suddenly stopped running. I was unable to restart the engine. I was blocking the lane of traffic to enter the highway. I had to have the vehicle towed as it would not start and it was a traffic hazard/blocking traffic. The vehicle was towed to an auto repair shop. The mechanic discovered the vehicle's gas tank was completely empty, despite the fuel gauge showing the gas tank just over 1/4 tank full. The mechanic found a recall notice, NHTSA recall bulletin #10v074000 for my vehicle, 2005 Nissan Titan, describing the exact defect that my vehicle experienced; "the fuel gauge may inaccurately display that the vehicle still has some fuel, typically about 1/4 tank, when the fuel tank is empty. " I took my vehicle to a Nissan dealer and they told me that my vehicle is not included in this recall due to the VIN, even though it is the same year/make/model, 2005 Nissan Titan, and has the exact same defect as the one described in the above mentioned NHTSA recall bulletin. Had I entered the highway when the engine stopped suddenly without warning, I most likely would have crashed. See the attached diagnostic repair invoice, NHTSA recall bulletin #10v074000, and Nissan service bulletin. I believe that my vehicle is or should be included in the existing NHTSA recall and Nissan should comply with the recall and repair the defect at no cost to me.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2018 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

As I was pumping gas the fuel tank began to make a howling sound and begun to spit the gas back out. This has happened four times, and has become worrisome.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/08/2019

My 2005 Nissan tornadoes in the middle of the oklahoma turnpike and interstate I-44 causing one of the lanes to be temporarily closed. After warrington a tow truck and being towed to the nearest Nissan dealership, I was informed that the only issue was the fuel gauge was not registering the correct level of gas in the vehicle. Although the gauge read 3\8 of a tank remaining, there was no fuel in the truck. The Nissan mechanics said this was a recall on this year Titan, but once he checked the VIN, my vehicle was not listed as part of the recall. This is an extreme safety issue as the vehicle can die at any time in any conditions causing lane closures or wrecks due to the sudden fuel issue with no warning. If Nissan has recalled for this exact issue on the 2005 Titan, and this issue is affecting a 2005 Titan, I believe without doubt they have mistakenly omitted certain VIN numbers. If this issue ultimately causes injury or in the worst scenario, a fatality due to their vehicle dying in the middle of a traffic situation, Nissan should take responsibility and be held accountable.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/24/2019

Fuel gage shows 1/4 tank left of fuel but car out of fuel while driving on the road.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

While driving on a busy city street, my 2005 Nissan Titan shut off unexpectedly, causing me to be stalled in the lane of travel. The vehicle would not restart and I was forced to push it out of the lane of travel into a nearby business parking lot. The engine would turn over but would not start. The fuel gauge read just over 1/4 tank and no trouble lights were illuminated and all gauges were within normal range. I wanted to try the most simple thing first so I had my son bring a fuel can to me to see if the tank was empty. This ended up being the case and the vehicle restarted and I stopped at the first fuel station and filled the tank up. The gauge went to full after refueling. I reset my trip odometer after refueling to watch the mileage in case the gauge malfunctioned again and it did. The gauge will not move below 1/4 tank. Nissan issued recall #10v074000 on 3-3-2010 for this exact issue. The recall covers the fuel sending unit which causes the fuel gauge to inaccurately display remaining fuel. I contacted Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 and the phone rep looked up my VIN and told me there were no recalls on my vehicle. My Titan is within the vehicle year range (2005-2009) the recall covers and is presenting with this exact issue.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

The fuel gauge is reading 1/4 tank and I was driving on interstate when my car shut off-- the reading was incorrect-- I was out of gas-- I had to get car towed-- had family in car could have caused an accident-- there is a recall out for this year make and models but not for my car?? recall number: 10v074000.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

I have had the truck for about 3 years and its getting worse fuel tank is hard to fill and makes a whistling sound.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

When exiting highway engine quit running. Fuel tank showed 1/4 tank left. Highway support vehicle stop to help, gave me some gas, about 1 gallon. Still would not start, had vehicle towed. Put 2 more gallons of fuel in tank, vehicle started. Found a NHTSA campaign id number 10v074000, for 2005-2009 Titan's for this exact same problem, but for some reason my Titan is not covered even though it's a 2005. I have called my local dealer and Nissan customer service with no help. Just asking why my Titan is not covered? I have uploaded a file of the campaign id number.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2018 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

While the truck is fueling and stationary the filler neck emits a high-pitched whine noise. The noise varies in pitch with relation to how full the tank becomes. The mentioned complaint has occurred since the first fill up when I purchased it brand new off the lot. Additionally, I've made attempts of informing two separate dealers of what was happening and provided video of the complaint. One asked for a copy of video, and the other said the engineers are aware and will respond shortly. That was several months prior to this complaint and still haven't heard anything.

The vehicle was taken to fenton Nissan of knoxville (4515 clinton hwy, knoxville, TN 37912), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 212,000. The VIN was not available.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/19/2018

I have run out of gas twice while I was driving. The gas gauge still showed over a quarter of a tank. Both times I was on a residential street. I lost power steering and brakes.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

Driving down a busy road on my way home from work and vehicle sputters as if out of fuel until it died. Could not get truck to crank and was clearly a lack of fuel. Fuel gauge read 1/4 tank full exactly as described in campaign 10v074000. Fortunatrly a police officer assisted in pushing my truck into a parking lot. I called a family member to drive up with a gas container to put a few gallons in. Sure enough, cranked right up. The following day, I contacted Nissan of USA, my vehicle was not included in the campaign and because of the age and mileage of my truck I would not receive assistance in the repair of this manufacturer defect.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan that the fuel gauge will read no lower than a quarter of a tank. I have called several times about the recall #10v074000. That recall is for 2005 Nissan Titans with this same problem. They however deny the claim because it doesn't include my VIN number. I feel that this VIN number should be covered under this recall as well.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Titan se. The contact stated that there was a progressing failure of which the instrument panel fuel gauge had inaccurately display that the vehicle had a quarter tank of fuel when the fuel tank was empty. The failure happened several times, the contact was included but not notified of NHTSA campaign number: 10v074000 (fuel system, other). A dealer has not been contacted yet to schedule an appointment to address the recall and also if the vehicle was still eligible for the second recall or if the statute had expired for NHTSA campaign number: 08v284000 (equipment). The manufacturer was notified of the failures and the contact was waiting to determine which dealer may schedule the recall repairs based upon the manufacturers approval. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Gas gauge will only read down to a 1/4 tank level. This causes errors in determining how much fuel is in the tank. I have run out of fuel in heavy traffic which is dangerous and could create cause for collision. This malfunction needs to be improved/.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

When fuel gauge gets to about a quarter of a tank it no longer reads it stays on the same spot. Leaving you to believe you have fuel when you dont.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2009 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/14/2017

Part number 25060-zq60d had to be replaced on my vehicle. Noticed that a cancelled recall on this vehicle had replaced a 25060-zq60b. Same description happened with my vehicle. I was driving and gas gauge was reading a 1/4 tank of gas. The vehicle shutdown while in motion on the highway because of no gas in fuel tank. I made a complaint with Nissan and was told since the recall was cancelled that there was nothing they can do to reimburse me.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

For the last several years I've been fighting an evap problem. It started 5 yrs ago when it wouldn't let me fill it with gas. Then months later it got worse n worse where it would take 20min to fill tank. I've replaced purge vale 3 ties in last several years and it works great then 6 months later back to same routine. There needs to be a better fix to address this issue n I know it's old but there's thousands of people dealing with this issue.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

My fuel gauge stops dropping once it gets between 1/2 and 1/4 tank of gas. I all ways check my and reset my trip odometer and know when I need to refuel but my fuel gauge does not match what my trip odometer is reading. I went online and checked to find out if there was a recall on this problem and discovered that there is a safety recall on 340,000 2005 Titans but not for mine. Not sure why some 2005 Titans are in the recall but not all even though many more have the same exact problem. Seems to me a safety recall should be for all affected vehicles and not just some. Mine and my families safety should be just as important to nssan.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

I was driving and made a turn from one major street to the next. I merged into the middle lane of a 3 lane road and my truck completely lost power. The vehicle behind me squealed its tires to avoid running into the back of me. I let the truck continue to move without applying brakes or I would have ended up stalled in the middle of a 3 lane busy road. The truck wouldn't even turn into the very right land without me turning the wheel hard. I pulled off onto a side street and called aaa. The vehicle register at a 1/4 of a tank of gas. The aaa driver added $2 worth of gas to the tank but it did not start. I was towed to a aaa approved shop about 2 miles away and when the shop owner went to take the truck off the tow bed it started right up. The owner said that it was just out of gas even though the gauge read a 1/4 of a tank. I went directly to a gas station and it took 25. 695 gallons of gas. There is a recall for 2005 Nissan Titans but my VIN number is not pulling it up. Nhtsa campaign number 10v074000 instrument panel fuel gauge.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2015 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

Gas gauge is not reading below 1/4 tank. There is a current recall for Nissan Titans of the same year, but not the VIN number my Titan is. I have ran out of gas on a busy road once because of this incorrect reading.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/14/2017

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the instrument panel fuel gauge may inaccurately display that the vehicle still has some fuel, typically about one-quarter tank, when the fuel tank is empty. No warning light illuminated. The dealer was not contacted about the failure. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed to the contact that no recalls were under the VIN. The failure mileage was 125,000. Ck.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/25/2017

On February 25, 2017 my son was going down the road and his 2005 Nissan Titan truck completely died, lost all power steering, brakes, everything. My son was able to get the truck off the busy road without getting rear ended, which was hard to do for a 20 year old. Once we had the vehicle diagnosed, we were told it was a faulty fuel level sensor unit. The vehicle showed over 1/4 of a tank of gas, but in fact, it was empty. Upon doing some research, I found other 2005 Nissan Titan's were recalled with this same issue, however, Nissan told me, that my VIN was not involved in the recall. This concerns me because my son could have been seriously injured or killed from the truck dying as he was going 50 mph down the road. I have tried to speak with Nissan, asking them to look into my particular vehicle, since there is a past history of this part failing on other Titans. After 3 phone calls, all they will tell me is, it isn't their fault, the vehicle is out of warranty and recall doesn't involve my VIN. I again asked them to consider expanding the recall to include my vehicle and was told no. The truck is currently in the shop to get this fixed, but it's a shame that Nissan won't even consider looking into this when they know it's an issue with other Titans. This truck has been in the family since it was purchased brand new.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2009 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

Fuel tank on Nissan tittan create a small evap leak that requires replacing the entire tank at an enormous cost.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Ever since I have owned the vehicle, the fuel gauge would never read full but stop at 7/8 of a tank. Not a big deal but last night my gauge read between 1/8 and 1/4 tank and I ran out of gas on a main road at night. The fuel light never came on and normally does when I am low on fuel. Doing research on this I found that there is a recall for 2005-2009 Titans for this same exact issue but not 2004. Reading the full description of the recall, it 100% reflects the same issue that I am having. I called Nissan and spoke to a representative and she says my vehicle does not apply to any recalls. She said to take the vehicle to the dealership to have them look at but for them to diagnose, they will have to drop the fuel tank which will cost quite a bit. I looked on other forums and this seems to of been a very common issue with 2004 model year but why it was not included in the recall is beyond me. This needs to be resolved because now I have no idea how much fuel is actually in my tank and I would rather this not happen again. I got lucky with the spot I was in where my truck stalled on a very busy road and did not get into an accident. I have attached the original recall notice for the 2005-2009 model year.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

Was coming from daughters game and I made a left turn outta parking lot all of a sudden a hear a noise and then grinding. I inspected brakes and underneath vehicle I noticed fluid all over front diff . I got underneath grabbed my drivers side axle and shook it . It came apart and was coming out of diff. A month earlier I noticed rear diff had oil all over it and oil was leaking out of rear pinion seal and both rear axle seals , due to axle breather failure. I have never went off-roading or beat this truck . I am also experiencing gas shooting back out of my fuel tank filler tube . I have had my vehicle to local dealer 2 or 3 times regarding this issue and it seems as if it's a guessing game . I have spent over 300 bucks there and my problem still exists . Then they guess again and says its something else. I know for sure this vehicle has had a rear end or rear diff already put in with very very low miles , with 1 st owner . I am being told that my last issue with front axle was c clip holding axle in failed and may have ruined my front diff , I traveled no more than 2 miles before I heard noise and I'm looking at a 1900 part not including labor .

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/21/2016

The fuel gauge does not read correctly below approximately a quarter tank. It occasionally will stick and fluctuate but always around a quarter tank and below. The first time I realized the problem I had to have my truck towed home, thinking it was something major when all I did was run out of gas.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/13/2016

Lost power to vehicle while driving, power steering, brakes, etc. Narrowly avoided accident. Gas gauge indicated a quarter tank of gas when it was actually empty. Contacted Nissan, they said there was recall for this for the year make and model, but my VIN was not included in the recall.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Driving to work in the morning rush hour traffic, at approx 65 mph, I experienced my 2005 Nissan Titan shut completely down losing all power to the engine resulting in a loss of power to all supporting engine accessories including the power steering and abs. I attempted to restart the vehicle while driving, by down shifting to neutral, which failed. Fortunately I was able to find a find a spot to pull over on the side of the busy highway and call for roadside assistance. It was later determined that I had run out of fuel, despite the fuel gauge showing well over 1/4 of a tank of usable fuel. At this point I discovered a recall campaign for the 2005 - 2009 Nissan Titan instrument panel fuel gauge (NHTSA campaign number: 10v074000) and proceeded to call the phone number listed in the remedy portion of the recall. When speaking with Nissan it was determined that my VIN wasn't included in the recall campaign, and an appointment was made at the local Nissan dealership by Nissan consumer affairs to confirm my finding and see if they would be able to complete the repair for me under the recall. When I brought my vehicle to my local Nissan dealership they informed me that the vehicle VIN wasn't apart of the recall, but did see a service bulletin associated with that make and model. It was ultimately determined they wouldn't be able to recover warranty money from Nissan, and informed me that I would need to pay for the repair out of pocket. Bottom line, it came down to a monetary issue not a safety factor issue for Nissan. It was obvious my vehicle experienced the same potential consequences as the other 2005 Nissan Titan VIN's in the recall campaign. However, based on my experience in trying to resolve this matter, it is obvious Nissan feels the the onus of liability ultimately falls on me as a consumer and not them, if I would like to operate my vehicle in a safe manner.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/29/2015

I was on my way home from work when my low fuel indicator light came on; my gauge showed approximately 1/8 remaining. This was normal, and the point where the low fuel light normally turned on. The next morning, on my way to work, the light turned off and the needle showed just over 1/8 tank. This was also normal for the light to switch on and off as the level teetered around the switch point. A few miles into my trip, the needle jumped to around 1/4 tank, which was not necessarily normal, but I had no reason to question the level based on the previous accuracy of my gauge. Halfway to work I lost power, and had to pull over on a busy highway. My truck would not start, although it still showed 1/4 tank remaining. I did an internet search on my phone for /2004 Titan fuel gauge problem/ and immediately got rashes of hits for descriptions exactly like mine where their Titans showed 1/4 tank remaining, but ran out of fuel. After walking a 4 mile round-trip to the nearest gas station and back, I put gas in the tank, and drove to work. After a quick internet search I found a recall NHTSA# 10v074000 for 2005-2009 Titans (mine is a 2004) and Nissan service bulletin el08-013a for 2004-2009 Titans. I was told by the dealership and Nissan America that my vehicle is not included in the recall, and will not be covered. I am fine with a fuel sensor failing after 186,000 miles and not being covered, but not if identical vehicles (2005-2009) with identical hardware are being recalled and recognized as having safety issues. The internet is full of people complaining about this issue on their 2004 Titans, and they need to be included in the recall.
