Upon purchasing this vehicle in March of 2014 I have had numerous issues with it. One issue being it would not start. I let the dealer I bought it from look at it and he took it to a garage that he usually deals with and they told me they replaced the starter. However, I'm almost positive it had something to do with the ignition switch recall. Another issue is the horn randomly started going off in the driveway one day and now the horn does not work at all. The most concerning issue is that of the electrical problems I've been having with the car. The parking lights stay on, forcing me to have to disconnect the battery every time I leave the car for extended periods of time. The turning signals work intermittently, sometimes only after 7pm through 8am I won't even be able to get the signals to turn on. Other times they won't work if the windshield wipers are on.
Today I started my car with my automatic starter then 7 minutes later I hear a horn non stop beeping I lookout my door and my car is smoking and in flames from hood. Investigator tells me it totaled. After they put the fire out I look in car and only one air bag came out.

The contact owns a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start due to the faulty pass lock system. The contact replaced the pass lock system and ignition switch but the failure recurred after the repair. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the fuel pump, the starter and the alternator were replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle would only start by loosening the battery and the ignition key turned into the on position. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 196,000.

2004 olds Alero key will not turn have to swap key around until it turns. Sometimes when it does finally turn the starter will hesitate to disengage. I have seen this problem several times on forums some people have had to have their Alero towed and have the ignition switch/cylinder replaced. I feel a recall is in order before the problem worsens like the Ford motor company had.
