2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 06/29/2009

There were no events leading up to the engine compartment fire on may 29th at about 10:00pm. Except that prior to the incident whenever the vehicle was driven there was a burning odor inside the vehicle. We had a recall done on the vehicle that we thought would correct the burning odor but it however didn't fix that. The recall number was 09047. We had a small engine compartment fire in may of 2007 but there wasn't any damage. However, with the engine compartment fire or thermal event as gm calls it there was major damage totaling the vehicle as when the oil drips down on to the hot exhaust manifold there was no where for the oil to drip down to the ground so therefore it resulted in a fire. The recall #09047 did nothing to solve the burning odor smell or an engine compartment fire. The vehicle did have small amounts of smoke that would come out of the engine compartment when it was driven starting 6 months prior to the final engine compartment fire on June 29, 2009. Then after the recall was done was when we started noticing the burning odor or smell when the vehicle was driven.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 07/08/2008

I was the second owner and bought the car in February 2003. Had to replace the radiator twice. Kept having trouble with the temperature showing high. 06 bought a radiator. Summer of 08 going up escondido mtn traveling to California. . . Caught fire. Had to replace the exhaust manifold. Engine temp kept reading high and service could not find the reason why. Replaced radiator again and traveling to nm may 2009 the temp kept reading high again and I had to pull over and then stay in second gear with the heater on full blast. Finally had to replace the vehicle. The Intrigue was a very nice car with leather seats and drove really good when it was working correctly, but since the engine fire I've had noting but trouble and maintenance repairs. Can I be reimbursed at all for any of those expenses?.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 07/16/2004

To whom it may concern:I have taken my 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 3. 5 back to the dealer 3 times complaining of exhaust fumes getting into the passenger compartment and Oldsmobile service keeps saying that they do not see or smell anything wrong. They also say that the obd 11 on board diagnostics would turn the check engine light on if something was wrong. I have used a digital home carbon monoxide tester in the passenger compartment and it has registered from 7 ppm to 27 ppm. I drive to work Monday thru Friday for one half hour, seventeen miles each way. When I arrive my arms have a purple color. My voice has become weak. I am slurring my words. I open the car windows no matter how cold in an effort to get fresh air. My behavior has become erratic. On the weekend I stay at home to tired to get up and go out. On Sunday night I start to feel my energy return to the point that I feel like exercising. Monday morning I get up dreading the thought of having to drive to work because the cycle will start all over again. I have gone away on vacation and used a rental car and my energy starts to return. My opinion is that my gm car is causing these problems. There is a person on the web who is experiencing the same problems I am. . Read more...

9 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 07/14/2003

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 3. 5 with 10,000 miles. When I drive it I get sleepy, headaches and my face turns red. I suspect that there are exhaust fumes getting into the passenger compartment. The dealer does not see any problems after 2 times in for service. They say that they cannot hear or see any exhaust leaks. My fear is that I will fall asleep while at the wheel and people will get hurt. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem before somebody is hurt?.

10 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue

11 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 04/29/1999

Check engine lights coming on consistently. There has always been trouble with this since I bought the car. Dealer would say it was never the same code. After the second year of this, I purchased a good electronic diagnostic code reader and the service manual for the car. (the same 3 books that the dealer uses). Most codes were the same and almost always there were multiple codes at one time. In 2004 the car was in the dealer 17 times for the check engine light. Most of the time it had multiple codes, with the same numbers coming up. They replaced everything that had to do with the code(it was still under the extended warranty I paid extra for) but the light came on within 1 day of getting it back. It took them 5 days to inspect the car because they could not get the light to stay off long enough to pass the emission part. The light came back on with the same codes before I left the dealership. The warranty ended a week after they inspected it (100,000 miles). My car has been sitting in my drive ever since the yearly inspection expired because the light will not go out and I don't have the money for them to replace something that probably has been replaced numerous times already. The car has probably got a short somewhere or the computer has messed up again. I still have all service records showing everything I've said. The only thing the dealer did, was waste time and charge Oldsmobile $$$$$ until the warranty was up . They never fixed the car, they had it more than I did in 2004. I see exactly why Oldsmobile is gone, but did they have to steal everybody's money by selling us garbage and not standing behind their product. I know olds is gone but. . . . . . General motors is still here. I will not ever buy a gm product because of this. And my brother-in-law works for gm. So take the employee discount and stick it, because no discount is worth the trash that general motors makes.
