Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch Problems of Plymouth Grand Voyager

Consumer states she parked her auto and left the auto running to pick up her kids, her 3 year old ran out in front of her and got in the auto, and pulled the gear shift causing it to roll back hitting a house and fence. No one was injuried. Consumer states she is upset because the child just pulled the shift indicator and her foot could not have reached the brakes. She also states that she did not know that this could be done.

Child was able to move gear shift from park without depressing the brake pedal. This being a primarily "family vehicle" they should be prepared for any type of situation that could accidently occur involving a child.

Vehicle was parked with engine running, emergency brake not engaged. Suddenly vehicle went backward, came to stop when it hitting a cement post. No injuries, damage $700-900.

Vehicle was in park, child moved gear shift to drive,and vehicle started rolling downhill. Consumer was able to jump in through sliding door and stop vehicle. Child was injured.

Consumer's 3 year old child was able to release vehicle from park gear without the use of a key or pressing of brake pedal. Vehicle rolled forward into a garage, and crushed garage door. There was no gear shift interlocking system in vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Consumer is able to shift gears without applying brake, 3 year old child shifted gears. No injuries.

Vehicle rolled backwards down consumer's driveway while vehicle was in park , no emergency brake in use. Driveway had a slight incline, and vehicle rolled approximately 15 to 20 feet before he could stop it. Also, there was no shift interlock system present in vehicle. Dangerous if a child were to play in vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

A child was able to pull the shift lever without brake being applied, causing vehicle to roll, resulting in a collision.

I am a police officer and have taken reports twice on Grand Voyagers where they have popped out of gear and rolled unnattended. On 5-10-2000 my sisters vehicle which was parked on my graded drive did the same. It nearly ran me over and struck my vehicle. Her transmission can be put into gear without depressing the brakes. The same was true for the two reports I took in my official capacity. The dealer told me that although it is a mandated feature it only lasts so long and that it is not covered under warranty. This is a matter that should be looked into before the defect results into a fatality.

While vehicle was parked with gear shift in park and engine still running, consumer got out of vehicle and closed the door. Suddenly vehicle took off and ran into another vehicle while gear shift still remained in park. Dealer notified.

Consumer is able to shift gears without applying brakes when vehicle is sitting at idle.

Child was able to put the car into reverse without touching the brakes.

While vehicle was in park position a child was able to put van into drive and it took off. Child was was not touching the brakes.

Gear shift can be engaged without depressing brake. . Small child can shift the gears if accidently falls against shifter, for a family car I consider this quite dangerous, all other cars I've ever driven had a "lock" of some type on the gear shift :ie you had to depress the brake at same time or a thumb button to depress (floor mounted gear shift).

The consumer has experienced problems with automatic transmission. While vehicle was parked in the driveway it drifted forward on its own and crashed into the wall in garage. The consumer had to get in the vehicle and put shift indicator down in order to get the vehicle to stop rolling. The manufacturer has been contacted.

Van rolls significantly backwards when on slight incline. Must keep one foot on brake and other on gas the minute you need to move or you will roll into the car behind. Transmission does not hold car at all. When stopped the car can be pushed forward. Dealer said this is normal for vans and would not try to fix it. If it causes an accident, dealer and manufacturer is libel.

Brakes do not have to be applied in order to shift gears. A child easily shifted gears which resulted in vehicle losing control and hitting a mailbox. . Et.

Able to shift vehicle into gear with engine running and without depressing gas pedal. Also occasions of accelerator pedal sticking.

Automatic transmission can be shifted to reverse or drive without having foot on the brake, design flaw. Yh.

Shift lever can be changed or moved into any gear from park without applying brakes and without key in the ignition, which could cause vehicle to roll away.

Owner's 3-yearr old was able to put gears into reverse without applying the brakes, and vehicle hit a tree. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
