Car has 36,000 miles on it and oil started running out underneath the car. Took car to dealer and the head gasket was blown. This is a known problem and Chrysler has yet to correct it. Upon further investigation I have found that I will have this problem again since it is a defect from the manufacturer. I was told from mechanic that several other cars the heads are also affected by this problem.

I have experienced a number of mechanical failures to my 1997 Plymouth Neon which I purchased two years ago. One month after purchasing the car began having electrical problems; radio stopped working, clock display would blackout. The most recent was experiencing a blown head gasket at the time the car was in operation. I was able to bring the car to a safe stop. However, had the gasket blown when I was on the expressway just minutes before then, the scene may have been more serious. I discovered oil in my antifreeze. My husband and I have research and located a website that informed consumers of manufacture defects that have been reported on the Neons from the 1995 to 1998. A number of complains have been brought to the attention of Chrysler corporation by other consumers. However, they do not see it as a problem. I have notified channel 5 target investigation news team in chicago, IL and they are investigating these problems as well. Target 5 investigation made me aware of a class action law suit again the Chrysler corporation and I think these manufacturer defects warrant your investigation as well, hopefully, prompting a national recall. Repairing a blown head gasket and possibly a cracked seal on the engine, is a very costly procedure. Please look into this problem. I would be interested in your findings.

Consumer states head gasket blew 3 different times while driving causing vehicle to stall.
In April 2000, head gasket blew, was informed by mechanic to call Chrysler corp. Called them and they sent me to Chrysler dealer. Had to pay 195 for diagnostic test. They repaired the head gasket. Aslo informed them of water entering the rear of the car thru side windows. They claimed they water tested it and found no water leak. Now 26 months later, noticed another leak, took to mechanic was told head gasket needs replacing. Contact Chrysler, they said it was not under warranty. When is someone going to look into this. My complaint makes 108 on head gaskets only. That is 108 people who have spent monies on something that should be recalled. If this is not resolved chrylser/Plymouth will have lost another customer. Does someone have to die in order for something to be done?.

Head gasket blew, oil all over, ,and machine stalled on hwy the mechanic says, motor is destroyed. I have no idea as to how an dwhy this happened, I have sent email to Chrysler no reply so far I think car stalling on hwy could be dangerous, accident injury death etc no personal harm my sister 's Mercury had same problem and car was recalled by dealer later on- after we made all repairs- do you have any notices from company or other owners in this regard? if this needs to be looked in to as safety problem. Thank you.
Head gasket blew at 60,000 miles. We have since learned this occurs at a phenominal rate for all '95-'97 Neons.
Head gasket blew on 1998 Neon. Did not notice until oil dumped all over garage floor. Luckily repaired for free, but this is a widespread problem on Neons. Chrysler should make repairs for free up to 100,000 miles because it is a design defect. There are 108 posts in the bad Neon head gasket discussion group on the internet. Supposedly there is a "secret warranty" out on this problem, but Chrysler applies it inconsistently. I do not have the VIN because I just traded it last week, but still concerned because I bought another '98 Neon on 1/28/01.
Head gasket blown and car requires new rotors at 38,500 miles. Obvious defect. I called chryslers 800 number for recall and warranties and was advised that "Chrysler is aware of the problem and they are dealing with it on a case by case basis". In order for Chrysler to even consider paying for the repair, I have to see an authorized dealer and they will determine what if anything Chrysler will pay for. I have to wait 4 days before I can even get into see an authorized dealer and then it will take another 2-3 days to repair. The car is undrivable and I have no other transportation. Chrysler refuses to pay for a rental car. I call this very poor customer service and I would like Chrysler to be held responsible for the repairs to my car.
Head gaskets blewout. Dealer has repaired vehicle. Consumer also experienced an oil leak from first day of purchase.
Previous to experiencing head gasket failure vehicle was running fine. At approximately 6 a. M. , I was commuting to work at a speed of 45 m. P. H. When the oil light came on, and the engine acted like it was going to die. The oil light stayed on for about five seconds and then went off. The car continued to run ok until I arrived at work. After work, I checked the oil and found the dipstick to be dry. I added oil to the appropriate level. I had a mechanic check the vehicle and he discovered the head gasket was blown. This mechanic - as well as others (including the dealers') - stated that the Neon has a long history of head gasket problems. At the time of discovery, there was a lot of oil underneath the car and on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I am very upset at Chrysler - especially now that I have learned of the widespread problem among Neon owners.
