Power Steering Failed problems of the 2007 Saturn ION - part 2

Power steering failure on Saturn Ion 2007 when outside temps reach high the 90's and triple digits. Took vehicle in to local gm dealer and was informed there is no fix for the problem.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion level 2. While driving at any speed, the contact noticed that the power steering would fail intermittently, making it impossible to steer the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that there were no related recalls. The manufacturer confirmed that there were no related recalls. No repairs were performed. The current mileage was 32,000 and the failure mileages were 31,800. Updated 05/24/lj updated 05/26/11.

The power steering fails and the vehicle becomes heavy to steer, particularly at slow speeds. The failure is now occurring every few seconds which sometimes stops for a few hours. Vehicle is a 2007 Saturn Ion with electric power steering. This is the same failure type as experienced on chevy cobalt and pontiac g5.

Power steering failure - my best description - electric power steering clicks as though a relay is preventing an over volt or power surge, and then the electric power steering has failed making steering more difficult at all speeds, specially slow speeds - dial on dash says "pwr str" stated happening on 1/7/2011 and now happens every time I start the car about 30 seconds after running.

This car is experiencing the same issue that gm has issued a recall for. The electronic power steering motor is failing and the pwr strng warning light comes on. The steering is very difficult (two hands absolutely necessary) for a strong driver during slow sharp turns. A potential collision is highly likely. Other complaints are on the web with many people avoiding driving the vehicle at all due to the inability to predict occurrences and the immediate effect the loss of power has. How can two models with the same equipment be recalled (cobalt and g5) and not the Saturn Ion?.

Power steering motor fails on my Saturn Ion 2007 daily. Car must be restarted for the motor to begin working again. Very unsafe for driving!.

2007 Saturn Ion electric power steering fails unexpectedly. Very difficult to steer at low speeds. Have checked fuses, connections, and wiring. All appears normal. Usually occurs at low speed in a turn.

The contact owns a 2000 Saturn Ion. When the contact started the vehicle she saw a pwrstr code illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle functioned normally when she drove it, however, after she turned it off and restarted it the power steering failed completely. The dealer was notified and stated that there were no recalls related to steering. He also stated that the vehicle would be repaired at the her expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 41,538.

Power steering fails. The power steering quits working while driving making the vehicle operate w/o the aid of power steering. This is a safety issue if a driver had to make a sudden turn to avoid a road obstruction of another car.

2007 Saturn Ion 2 power steering motor failure,the power steering motor stops working causing the steering to lock up. This has been recalled on the on the chevy cobalt for 05 to 2010. Also on the pontiac g5 for the same years ,the Saturn is using the same part numbers . The car has lost steering coming around a mountain curve that has a sever drop off fortunately was on the opposite side of road. Saturn will not cover these in a recall.

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion. It has worked fine up until about a month and a half ago (today's date is July 27, 2010). We were driving on a normal day, no excessive heat or cold, and the power steering just went out. It completely stopped without warning, without apparent cause. We were on a highway around cars driving heavy speeds, so we had to pull off quickly. After stopping and starting the car, it seemed to be back to normal. We thought it was just a fluke. But then it happened about a week later, and it continues to happen more frequently. For instance, the power steering stopped about 20 yards from my front door yesterday, and during a fifteen minute trip, it went out three times. Giving in to the fact that the problem was getting much worse very quickly, I checked on the extended warranty that I had bought when I purchased my car. It covered all electrical problems, as I had remembered, but upon further review, I realized that power steering was listed completely separately, and in fact, was not covered. At that point I decided to do some research to see how common this problem was in Saturn Ion's, and I have found that the problem is not only occurring in 2004-2007 Ion's, but had also occurred in other gm vehicles. The difference being, that those other vehicles of similar make but different brands have been recalled, but Saturn has not. I have read multiple instances of people's lives almost being lost due to accidents in which the steering stopped and sent people into head-on traffic (much like it did with my family), and yet gm refuses to recall these vehicles. I wish someone would answer everyone's question of whether it is going to take the death of a person or a family in a crash due to power steering failure to make someone pay attention to this problem?.

2007 Saturn Ion power steering failure. Happens while driving. Feels like the car no longer has power steering anymore. If I turn the car off, then back on, the problem is fixed. But, never know when it will happen again.

My daughter was driving her 2007 Saturn Ion coupe across the ben franklin bridge in philadelphia, PA and the power steering failed. The dashboard light came on and the steering cut out 5 times. It was very difficult to maneuver the car and the steering would temporarily go to power and then back to manual. There is no place to pull over. She stayed calm and was able to get to a safe place to pull over and avoided an accident. We took the car to the dealership for a power steering assist replacement today. The cost was $500. I checked on the internet and apparently this is a common problem since 2004. We bought this car because it had a high safety rating and onstar diagnostics. We contacted onstar to check to see what the problem was with the steering. Onstar apparently does not have access to steering failure. . At least I would know that she got hurt when it fails again. My question to you is why has this problem been allowed to go on for 6 years. I saw no warning about this when we researched the car. When I made a specific inquiry online, thousands of similar incidents are reported. My daughter is a 20 year old college student. . She isn't even done with the payments on the car, yet on a clear day on a routine trip she couldn't keep control of the car. Thank you for your help.

When driving hear a chime and the power steering fails, comes back for a time after the car is shut off and restarted. This will happen sometimes only after one min of drive time others takes a while longer for the power steering to fail and stop working. This has been going on for more then one day I have done research online and found others with the same issue.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds or when standing outside the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of gasoline. In addition, he also noticed that the power steering would fail when completing a turn. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The current mileage was approximately 85,000. Kmj.

The power steering fails randomly without warning on my 2007 Saturn Ion. It failed 3 times today. It would reset if you restart the car, but the steering becomes so tight that.
