18 problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 2007 Saturn SKY. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2007 Saturn SKY based on all problems reported for the 2007 SKY.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact inquired about the manufacturer's responsibility if he were involved in a collision and the air bag failed to deploy. The contact also inquired about a loaner vehicle or reimbursement. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Passenger presence module went bad. Trips the air bag sensor to go off and can only be reset by dealer. Airbag will not deploy when a passenger is in the seat in an event of an accident. This has been a known safety issue for years.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. While turning, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained head injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
My wife's 2007 Saturn Sky passenger service air bag indicator and air bag warning light is on and stays on. I was told unless this is fixed (for a cost of about $900. 00) the air bag will not deploy in case of an accident. The gm dealer that looked at the Sky said "passenger seat sensor is out again. " not good that gm does not care if young kids that ride with their grand mother gets fatally injured in a car accident. (no air bag will deploy). Maybe a gm executive would care more if one of their kids or grand kids would be riding in a car that has a faulty air bag issue. This issue is happening on most of the Saturn Sky vehicles. Just give a recall - do the right thing!.
Service airbag message displays on the dic, and confirmation from onstar that code b0081 is present, meaning the passenger airbag will not deploy because the seat sensor has malfunctioned. This is a known and common issue with Saturn Skys, and my vehicle has only 9023 miles - almost all driven with no passenger the cost to fix this issue as shown from others who've had this problem is over $1000.
The passenger presence system module has gone out. I have done all circuit testing, research and priced the repairs. I am a service technician of 6 years and have worked for gm for the first 3. Almost every Saturn Sky I know of has had the pps module fail, and we have many reports and pictures of the passenger air bag not deploying during collisions, sometimes the driver does not either. This is close to a $1000 fix, considering the price of the pps module by itself is $500+ from the dealer. My vehicle was stationary, and in motion, city and highway when this failure occured. The pps module does not recognize a passenger in the car and therefore does not turn the passenger air bag on. The first time it did it, 10 minutes into driving, it turned on and the air bag light went off. A few minutes later it cycled back off, lit up the air bag light and said, 'service air bag,' on the dic. It cycled one more time to on, and then back off a few minutes later and now stays off. The entire time it cycled back and forth there was a passenger in the car. As a technician and a car enthusiast, I am well aware that cars have to be maintained and expensive parts will be bought over the years, but the overwhelming evidence that there is a problem with the Saturn Sky's air bag system is concerning and I would hope, with as many recalls have gone out over the last several years, that NHTSA, and gm, would do something about it before someone gets hurt like people did in the cobalt ignition recalls. I also have a cobalt, so I know all about that as well. Thank you for your time, and I hope someone will actually investigate this instead of ignoring it and people get hurt. If it was your own vehicle, you would be alarmed as well. Also, there is concern that the 2005-07 Cadillac cts airbag recall was the same part number used in the 2007 Sky, possibly 07-10. I do not have proof of that, yet.
The passenger side airbag sensor failed in my 2007 Saturn Sky. The car has approximately 27k miles and failed when my 7 year old son sat in the seat as we were getting ready to leave on errands. The cost to fix the sensor is prohibitively expensive and is occuring more and more frequently in this family of cars. This causes the airbag not to function with a passenger in the car. In the event of a wreck the airbag not deploying could cause the fatality of the passenger.
For no apparent reason the service air bag light activated for the passenger seat while driving. Found that the air bag sensor in the seat has a seperation crack. Nothing heavy has ever been placed on the seat and my only passenger weighs only 97 lbs. I have read that gm has recalled many of the passenger seat sensors just not for the Sky due to the sensors breaking. I would like to request that this issue is addressed as this happened while we were driving and if an accident had happended the passenger air bag would not have deployed.
Failure of the passenger presence sensor for the Saturn Sky airbag. Very common for this model vehicle (Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice). Design / engineering / manufacturing error. Failure of this sensor means that the airbag will not deploy for a passenger in case of an accident. Severe safety issue but gm will not replace with rationalization that vehicle is out of warranty.
Air bag sensor are malfuntioning on this model car and are not being addressed by gm. If air bags fail to deploy during a crash passengers could by fatally injured.
Air bag passenger sensor stopped working unexpectedly. I had the module replaced by a gm dealership and had to pay complete cost. One year later the new module broke once again and the airbag sensor is not working meaning that if a person is in the seat the airbag will not deploy if an accident was to happen and will most likely increase the chances of a death because of faulty parts by gm.
Service air bag light is on, this is a safety hazard and I think gm should take the responsibility to repair this before someone gets seriously injured because the air bag did not deploy.
2007 Saturn Sky redline sitting at an idle passenger sat down in the seat and service airbag light illuminated, dic showed "service airbag system", passenger airbag indicator light showed off. Upon taking to dealer problem was determined to be the passenger presence system (pps) sensor failed. The sensor failed do to the flexing of the sensor as passengers got in and out of the vehicle not from neglect by the owner. The total is $1125. 00 with part shipping install and zeroing of new the sensor. This is a very common problem with the Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice, there has been reports of the replacement sensors failing in as little as a year. When this part fails the passenger side airbag will not deploy causing a significant rise in the potential injury of the passenger during a crash. With the abundance of this problem it an obvious defect of the part the only way an owner can stop this from happening is to not have anyone or anything in the passenger seat to avoid flexing of the sensor. The price for the repair, the potential injury and how often this is happening, I believe is a valid reason for a safety recall and replacement of the sensor by the manufacturer or dealer.
Recieved a "service air bag" code on my dic output. Contacted my local service center and verified that there were no safety recalls for the failed passenger present system module associated with the airbag system. Performed lots of research and discovered that this is an extremely prevalent and common problem with virtually all models and years of the pontiac solstice and Saturn Sky. I am highly concerned to also discover that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident due to the defective part not detecting the presence of a passenger.
The passenger seat sensor has failed and the airbag does not know if someone is in the seat. During an accident the airbag will not deploy.
5/14/12 46222 miles vehicle indicated a "service air bag" warning - took vehicle to covert Buick dealership service for diagnosis. It was determined that the passenger pressent module was faulty and it was replaced. 2/10/15 84300 miles vehicle is again showing "service air bag" warning. Again problem with the passenger present module. It was conveyed that if this module is not in working order the passenger air bag may not deploy in the event of an accident. It is obvious that this module is poorly made to have another failure in less than 40,000 miles. The passenger seat on this car is used very infrequently, no spills of any kind. My research shows that this a common issue with this part. Gm should take action to avoid injury or fatality at their hands. Thank you.
2007 Saturn Sky traveling in excess of 50 mph with traffic south on rt2 in edgewater MD in the right lane of a 6 lane divided highway. A 2007 kia traveling east across the 6 lanes of traffic failed to stop for stop sign. Sky hit kia head on in to the passenger side of the kia centered on the pillar between the front and back doors. Air bags in the 2007 Sky failed to deploy.
I have a 2007 Saturn Sky redline and crashed it. Onstar dispatched the call as an "airbag deployed accident". The airbags did not deploy. I bruised my rib cage badly from slamming into the steering wheel, even though it was a low mileage, frontal impact. The car is still in repair.
