1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

This vehicle had a recall for a faulty switch under the passenger seat that was to tell the air bag a passenger was in the seat. I completed the recall at genillini motors in woodbine, NJ in April of 2018. The replacement switch has failed (6/2019). The system, again, no longer detects a passenger and I suspect the air bag will not deploy. This car has had less 1000 miles of use since the repair and there is rarely a passenger in the passenger seat. Both the passenger air bag detection light and the air bag dash light go on and off randomly. Both usually are on when the car starts but sometime goes off when there is a passenger in the passenger seat and the car is moving. I contacted gm and got no where with them. I've also researched the problem and have found similar complaints on Saturn Sky blogs and car reviews, including gms website. Attach is a screen shot of my chat with gm.

2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

Passenger airbag presence switch failed which is common among owners of this same vehicle. Great expense to repair. Gm should recall as it is so prevalent before a fatality occurs.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

The airbag sensor shuts off. Used to be periodic but now appears to be permanently off. Started happening right after recall repaired on the ignition switch.

4 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

Had my ignition switch replaced for a recall on 7/3/14. On July 25th I had my first passenger since the ignition switch work enter the vehicle. As soon as the person seated themselves on the passenger seat I received a warning on the information center of the car stating 'service airbag soon' and the airbag indicator showed that the airbag was 'off' even though someone was seated there. This was not a 'one time incident, and has not resolved itself and continues to be this way. After some research, I found this is not an isolated incident on this model and year. This is a safety concern and should be a recall from the manufacturer (general motors) to replace the faulty parts instead of charging me and the numerous others with the same issue upwards of one thousand dollars to repair this.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

When taking my car in for ignition recall repairs I noticed that my air bag light came on. Gm customer service told me that when the new ignition switch was installed the error would clear itself. It did not, and when I brought this to the gm dealership service desk they denied that there was any linkage between the airbag operation and the ignition switch despite the description in their own recall notice warning that the airbag might not inflate if the original switch was faulty. Gm is attempting to avoid the cost of a new airbag made ineffective by their own faulty ignition switch. I went to the gm dealer to have my car made safe and was directed to leave the dealership with an unsafe car, without a working airbag. This should be addressed by the NHTSA and make gm insure that all safety systems are working properly after recall repairs are completed!.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

Driving and the service air bag light came on. Took my vehicle to a gm dealership for the ignition switch recall and asked them to diagnose it. They came back and told me that it was crucial to get it fixed and if I ever was in an accident the air bag would not deploy. Quoted me $850 to get it fixed! told them I couldn't afford to fix it right now. Its been 3 months and I have a 7 year old. I use my husbands truck to take my son to school. I wont let anyone sit in the passenger seat in fear of crashing with no airbag. Not good gm. Please recall this so no one gets hurt! I've never heard of airbags going so quickly (if at all) in a vehicle. Faulty equipment that continues to be ignored.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

At times the passenger air bag indicator shows off when a passenger is in the passenger seat. This has been happening for years. Most of the time the indicator is on when a passenger is in the car and when the indicator is off I have tried to drive to the nearest Saturn dealer but the indicator then shows on when I get to the dealer(which was 50 miles away). Finally when the recent gm ignition switch recall directed me to a closer gm dealer I brought my car in and told them about the air bag issue. For two days they could not get the air bag indicator to show off with a passenger in the passenger seat, however on the third day the indicator showed off. They told me it was the air bag sensor in the seat. To replace the part($500. 00) and labor cost it would cost me $800. 00. They told me other owners have had this problem. Since this is a safety issue, I feel this should also be a recall item.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

The recent recall on ignition switches for gm vehicles is great however there are a number of gm cars that have an additional problem affecting the deployment of the air bag beside the ignition switch. Thousands of gm vehicles have an inferior passenger seat sensor that goes out and will not deploy the air bag for the passenger of the car. Gm is knowledgeable of this and refuses to fix the problem for the owners. Cars affected are the Saturn Sky, pontiac solstice, pontiac g6, Chevrolet malabu and some model corvettes. The item costs consumers 1000. 00 to fix and it is possible it will go out again in months after replaced. Gm knows about this have had my Saturn Sky tested and it is identified as the passenger seat sensor. The feds need to get gm to be more honest and include this item as a safety recall as well. It appears that since no passengers have been killed that it is not a concern. Please look into this matter as well.

9 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2013

Passenger presence module is loose or not functioning properly which means the airbag may deploy during or not when there's an accident! warning light comes on to check passenger airbag module. Had estimates to cost me over $1000 the car is in great condition and wasn't ever wrecked! it just stopped working without a cause. It's 10 years old, garage kept and only has 43,200 miles on it. I had 3 recalls already on the rear main seal and twice on the ignition switch where it would just shut down everything almost causing a near fatal accident getting off ramp onto I-80 tractor trailer just missed me!.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

2007 Saturn Sky had ignition switch replaced may 2014 at 49500 miles. December 2014 service airbag came on at 50000 miles. $ 900. 00 to replace at dealership.
