Saturn VUE owners have reported 14 problems related to automatic transmission control module (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Saturn VUE based on all problems reported for the VUE.
Upon a cold start, when the vehicle has rolled about ten feet, forward or reverse, with no input on the accelerator, there is a whir from the engine compartment, akin to a stepper motor noise, and the vehicle accelerates on its own. In reverse, applying the brakes stops the car, and then selecting drive, the vehicle responds to the accelerator correctly. The same thing happens in forward, but in most cases the accelerator is engaged to move forward. The problem does not seem to occur when the car is warmed up and being driven under normal use. In reviewing the shop manuals, there is an electronic throttle control motor, which I assume is a stepper type motor, in the throttle body assembly. This is controlled by the throttle actuator control(tac) and the power control module(pcm). I assume that the motor is failing, but have not experienced a reduced engine power mode or engine shutdown mode event. If this part is failing it should be covered by the emission warranty of 8 years/80,000 miles, but unfortunately the car is 9 years old. I will approach my dealer and Saturn about possible coverage under warranty, but have had difficulty with them in the past. I feel this is a safety issue, as it can catch a driver unaware and create a possible accident scenario.

Was driving around 45 mph and suddenly the reduced power light came on. Vehicle slowed to a stop. I turned vehicle off and restarted but transmission would not engage. I had the vehicle towed to my home where it has been sitting. I am researching how to get the tcm to communicate with the engine computer. I wrote to gm for assistance regarding the lawsuit with Saturn vehicles and they arrogantly replied back "that they are longer addressing additional communication on this subject. " how arrogant!.

On November 19, 2013 as I was in my way to work the car started to make a weird noise and as I kept driving I felt a jerk on the car and heard a loud noise coming from the engine, had to turn back home. I was not going to drive the car and get stranded somewhere on the road. I call carl black Chevrolet and had the car towed to have it service. On Friday I picked up the car and was told the fixed the problem which was the control solenoid valve and transmission control module assembly replacement. They found fluid pressure switches damaged, replaced tcm and sol assembly. On Friday November 23, 2013 I picked up my car and was told the problem was fixed, but on November 25, 2013 as I was driving to the store the problem started again, going about 35 miles the car jerked back so bad that I almost hit my head on the steering wheel. I thank god there was nobody behind me because this could have cause an accident. I was able to get the car home but not before the car did the same thing again and there was noise coming from the engine. I had the car towed again to carl black Chevrolet and is at their service center today, I want a new transmission on my car not just replace some parts and sending me on my way with a car that I can have a serious accident with and possible get hurt or hurt others. All this problems have caused me to missed work and spend money I don't have, I do not want to continue having problems that can be avoided. This is a very stressful situation for me, please tell me what I have to do to have this problem fix.

Purchased my Saturn oct 2011 transmission went out 3 months later January 2012. Saturn replaced it because it was still under factory warranty. August 7th 2013 im getting onto the expressway and my engine light comes on and the car loses power and would hardly excelerate. My transmission control module went out and my warranty company refuses to fix it saying that it is not an internal part. I am beyond pissed.
Purchased a brand new 2002 Saturn Vue 6 cylinders 3. 0 engine. Had to replaced every electronic component in this vehicle. Computer, accelerator sensor, transmission and transmission control module. The "service engine" lights is constantly on. Therefore, I took the truck to the dealer. They tell me I need a new throttle body and a brand new harness since the new throttle body will not work with the existing wires. They want $3,000. 00 for this. Within the warranty period I made the dealership aware of transmission problems. They reply that this SUV was operating normal. I replaced the transmission after the warranty had expired. Now the transmission control module is defective. The dealer wants $860 for the part plus programming charges.

Check engine light went on and at the same time a visible loss in acceleration was noticed at all times when taken off. Also a whining noise was heard coming from the engine compartment idling and when moving. Taken in to the dealership, a slipping transmission was diagnosed and it was replaced for another (different number) original gm transmission part number, cooler flushed, tcm calibrated. A charge for $ 5324 was paid for the replacement, no extended warranty was available any longer, although forced to buy when the vehicle was purchased.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. After purchasing the vehicle in July of 2007, the contact had to take the vehicle back to get a new one three hours later. When he took the vehicle to the dealer for 5,000 mile servicing, the dealer discovered a recall, informed the contact, and made the repairs. Within twenty days, the contact had to have three hybrid electrical wiring harnesses replaced, the entire vehicle was re-wired, and a new transmission was installed. All the instrument panel and air bag lights illuminated intermittently. The dealer stated that if the air bag light is illuminated, it is inoperable. On two separate occasions, the contact had to have the failures repaired again. The dealer stated that there was a new recall related to the emission, but they could not perform the repair. They recommended a shop (freemond auto) and they replaced the factory fitting for that make and model. While at a traffic light with the brake pedal depressed, the engine shut off and restarted. The vehicle rolled back while the brake pedal was still depressed. The contact is still experiencing wiring and transmission failure. The failure mileage was 4,800 and current mileage was 16,311. Updated 4/7/08 updated 04/07/08.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. On may 10, 2007, the contact stated that the transmission failed. While driving 45 mph and attempting to accelerate, the engine would run but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The purchase date was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 92,500. The consumer stated that the warranty on the transmission was 50,000 and then changed the mileage to 75,000. The consumer stated the cost of the repair is $4,950 and a credit was issued by the dealer of $1,000. The consumer stated wanted to know why was the full amount not provided? updated 09/05/07.
We purchased our 2005 Saturn Vue in April of 2005. We had no performance problems for the first 10-12000 miles. Then we started to get a slipping in the transmission that prevented acceleration. This happened repeatedly, a couple of times when I was trying to merge into on-coming traffic. I cannot tell you how disconcerting it is to be accelerating into traffic with your two kids in the car, and than your engine revs like it is in neutral and you cannot move! we took the car into the Saturn dealer on two separate occasions for this problem. Both times we were told they could not duplicate the problem. Than on February 9th, 2006, my husband was leaving his work, and could not get out of his parking space, as his car would not go into reverse. It would go forward, but only when in park. We had the car towed to the libertyville Saturn dealer, and, of course, they were unable to detect a problem. They said if the car is cold, the computer will prevent the transmission from being engaged, to avoid transmission damage. They also said that the slipping in the transmission was "normal operation" for the cvt transmission. Well, I did not have this issue happen when I test drove the car, and for approximately 5 months after. I do not have the problem for a week or so after an oil change. I feel that there is a blatant performance problem with the cvt (continuous variable transmission) continuous implies that the transmission varies "continuously" I can assure you, if my car had done this while I was test driving it, I never would have bought the car. It is a safety hazard, and makes me extremely anxious when I am driving, as there is no way to anticipate when it will happen. Saturn has repeatedly stated that this "slipping" is normal. I have found several web sites on the web with people complaining of this exact problem.

2003 Saturn Vue hood release cable and windshield wiper motor was replaced. The rear differential was replaced (warranty). While repairing the rear differential the technician noticed that the prompt shaft center bearing was broken (warranty). There was noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The technician determined that the transaxle. The technician updated the tcm and added cvt additive (warranty). The check engine light illuminated on the dash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the oxygen sensor was faulty (warranty). The air bag and horn were also replaced.
The problem I encounter with my car is transmission related. Last year, I was stopped at a traffic light, then the light turned green, I accelerated as usual, the engineã‚??s speed increased and the car did not move. Suddenly, with a loud noise the car jerked forward. The car behind me almost crashed into my car, and the driver screamed at me and waiving his hands. The car was taken to the Saturn dealer on July 30, 2004. They kept the car for a week, and repaired or replace the transmission. The problem recurred, and I brought the car to the dealer again on June 30, 2005. They could not duplicate the problem this time. Last July, the 07, I brought my car to the dealer for the same problem, and this time they replaced the transmission fluid, and reprogrammed the tcm. Septembers, 2005, I stopped at a stop sign to leave the complex where I reside, and the same phenomenon recurred: I accelerated, but the car did not move, then suddenly jerked forward, and again I almost crashed in the car coming from my left. I love my car, but I am afraid to drive it now! the first time the transmission was repaired, the car was about 10,000 miles. I had the same problem last June at 21,831 miles, and again last July, at 22,164 miles.
While driving in new fallen snow the vehicle stopped while attempting to go up a small grade. The vehicle transmission would not to engage in reverse. The consumer was not able to control the vehicle when it began to slide from left to right. The consumer contacted the dealer who indicated that the problem was the transmission module. The hood release was not working because the hood release cable was stretched and bent.
Consumer states: took in vehicle on 5 separate times for transmission, whining noise was heard, almost like the engine was overheating. Was on highway, and no matter how much gas consumer gave it vehicle wouldn't move. When giving it more gas the engine would rev but still wouldn't go. Before problems with transmission, at a separate time, something with the computer went wrong. It completely shut down. Such as gas gauge showed empty tank and speedometer went to zero. When at a stop idle seems to drop and when accelerating from stop, vehicle hestiates and lurches. Transaxle speed sensor replaced. Transmission control module reprogramed due to whining noise. Hood won't open. Hood cable readjusted. Driver and passenger washer nozzle missing and replaced. Steering wheel making noise. Shaft boot greased. Service engine soon (ses) light on. Oxygen sensor was contaminated and replaced.
2007 Saturn Vue was serviced because of the check engine and battery lights illuminating. Dealer replaced and fixed several problems. Consumer was still not happy with the way the vehicle ran. The consumer stated the radio was replaced for the third time, and there was even more wind noise from the driver side door with the new rubber seal. The consumer also stated major loss of power, rough upshifting, double downshifting while braking and poor fuel economy. The consumer was told a new calibration was made to the pcm as part of the correction made along with the wiring harness to make the check engine and battery lights go off.
