Driving on interstate 10 pensacola FL heading northwest going 70-75 miles an hour semi truck about 2 car lengths behind me I m int the right lane cars to my left traffic is heavy 3:45 in the pm. My car makes chunk then a bump engine shuts off no power no power steering semi locks up his brakes almost hits me pulled the car to side of the road. After I collected myself car wont turn over no smoke or fluids popped the hood nothing to indicate what happened. Had it towed to vinnc whibbs I was told the engine locked up no reason why. Put a new engine in found out in fact it was the transmission which caused the engine to lock up. I did research on this and come to find out it is a defective part in gm cars int the transmission the 35r wave plate has not been properly heat treated and can cause transmission failure it affects hundreds of thousands of cars 2007-2009 Saturns. Taverse, acadia, outlook, malibu, arura. Gm knows about this defect but wont do a recall. This is wrong as a consumer im suppose to be protected by law from defective products. This dept the NHTSA has looked in to this issue and your dept has detirmened it to be a defective part but no safety issues, I be g to differ I was almost in a terrible accident due to this defective part. Once again gm has a defective product, and no one is doing anything about it how many lives lost does it take before we take action.

On April 12, 2014 I was driving on a major boulevard towards interstate 5 when the transmission shifted itself into neutral and revved the engine to an extremely high rpm. It was hovering quite close to the red danger zone on the gauge. As it was doing this I lost forward power and was moving forward on momentum only. It then felt like it dropped in and out of gear several times in quick succession. I was close to a parking lot so I hit the brakes lightly to decrease my speed and managed to turn the car into the parking lot and into a parking space just as the transmission appeared to re-engage. I immediately turned the car off and called emergency roadside service to tow the car to the dealer. The dealer was able to drive the car forward into a service bay but advised me that reverse was completely gone. Although I did not crash or sustain an injury, it was only because I got lucky and had a safe place to turn into. If this had happened 5 minutes later on the freeway, I would have likely died as that section of interstate 5 has construction work and no shoulder, so I would have been stranded and blocking traffic on a freeway with other vehicles and big rigs traveling between 55 and 80 miles per hour. It would have taken a miracle for no one to hit me in that situation. The vehicle is a 2008 with just over 50k miles on it - way too soon for such a major transmission failure.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission failed. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer of was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,652.
My transmission failed as I was accelerating off a stop line. The vehicle would not go above 30 miles an hour and was at 3000 rpm. When attempting to park and back into a parking spot the car would not go into reverse. There appears to be a recall on this model. Is my car under this recall.
My 2008 Saturn Vue steering failed and almost got into accident with only 40,000+ miles back in oct 2013, got it fixed that cost me close to $1000 and now June 2014 transmission failed with only 50,000 miles and was quoted $4,500 worth of repair which is to replace transmission, checked online regarding problem and looks like its a common issues on this model and other models as well of gm which have the same transmission, just wondering how come no one issues a recall on this. Thanks. . .
While attempting to merge from 38th street tacoma to i5 north accelerated from the off ramp vehicle tachometer climbed, loss of acceleration-power, transmission failure. Shifted to neutral then back to drive with no result. Almost got rear ended by i5 drivers doing 60-65 with my vehicle slowing, shifted into neutral again then back to drive for second time with no result, almost got hit a 4th time, vehicle finally responded to 4th gear in manual mode. Vehicle operated poorly for next few miles until I was able to get off the interstate. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. There are numerous incidents of the Saturn/gm products that have a defective 35 wave plate associated with the transmission. This vehicle has been serviced regularly last service was 7 days prior to this near accident no error codes or engine lights had come on prior to this happening. Glad to see the federal govt. Can bail out a company that endangers the general public and gambles with the ideal of may it will maybe it won't break, as long as we get money. Society of automotive engineers they should have a new association society of cost benefit analysis. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. 2003 Saturn Vue. Consumer writes in regards to transmission failure and consumer seeks reimbursement for repairs. The repair shop stated the transmission had disintegrated and it could not be re-built. Ten days after the transmission was replaced, the check engine light illuminated followed by the loss of power light, at which time the vehicle dangerously slowed down to 10 mph. The vehicle was towed back to the repair shop, where they replaced the electronic accelerator pedal unit at their expense, which was a known Saturn factory service bulletin issue. The vehicle was fine for a couple of days, then the problem returned. It was towed back to the repair shop again. The repair shop performed an extensive diagnostics, but they could not find a definitive source. The problem happened again, after retrieving the vehicle. The repair shop had the vehicle towed to another facility. However, they were unable to resolve the issue.
2004 Saturn Vue. Consumer writes in regards to transmission failure.
Motor transmission fails to move forward or backwards even though engine starts fine.
I purchased this car brand new in 2003 and am the only driver. Other than the now defunct transmission, the car is in excellent shape, both inside and out. While driving appx. 70mph on the freeway, my Vue lost power down to 30mph and rpms increased to over 5000. The "check engine" and "reduced power" warning lights illuminated. I managed to drive the car to the recommended gm service center and was told that the vti transmission had failed. Service advisor contacted gm and was told they wouldn't provide any assistance. Car is still at gm service center as there is no way to repair the transmission and assure me that the $5000 it will cost me will last since they can not get a new transmission, only rebuild another one that has failed. This car is only 8 years old with 114k miles and based on my history with Saturn vehicles, my expectation was that it should have lasted at least another 3 years and 50k miles. Also, based on the information I have read online from other Vue owners with this same problem, it appears that gm is not consistent with the level of response or assistance to us. How can it be that someone with 120k miles gets their repair/replacement at no charge and others with less mileage can not? there is no consistency, it is a crap shoot as to the response you will receive. I still have the letters I received from Saturn notifying me that this is a known issue and the transmission was destined to fail. Gm should be held responsible for providing relief to all of us, equally, since they knew that eventually we would all be affected. I am included in the class-action lawsuit with lakin chapman.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated the vit transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated this was not a permanent fix after replacing the transmission. The vehicle will only last for another 20,000 miles. The manufacturer was contacted who informed her they will give her $5,000 towards a new vehicle. The contact stated she cannot afford it. The failure mileage was 102,000. . . Mw.
After purchasing my Saturn Vue, January 11, 2011, it required service and a subsequent transmission replacement on or about April 1, 2011. The repair was covered by my extneded warranty, however, the most recent transmission failure, April 2, 2012, was not covered by a warranty. The dealership is seeking to have me pay 50% of the cost to replace, for a second time, a faulty transmission, with no guarantee that its performance will exceed that of my previous transmission replacement. Between the cost of both transmissions, the repair to my vehicle exceeds the value of it as a whole. I am terrified that I will encounter this problem again, and cannot afford the cost to repair a problem that was foreseeable then, as well as now. I do not know where to turn, but I feel as though this is an irresponsible way to conduct business, and the improper functioning of this component could be the difference between highway safety and a fatal accident in the event the transmission fails at high speeds. Please help make this right for me, and all other consumers not yet aware of the battle that they will, most likely, face if they are in possession of a Saturn Vue.

The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that after having his vehicle serviced at a local repair shop who advised him that the dealer recommended that he flush his transmission at 60,000 miles. When he took his vehicle into a certified dealer, they advised him to not flush the transmission since he was covered under warranty and that sometimes the flush caused more problems. 20,000 miles later the transmission failed with no warning and the contact was told that it would not be covered under the warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired for the transmission. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I brought a new 2003 Saturn Vue and my transmission failed and gm will not replace it. I know that there was a class action suit but have little information on where to go.
I bought a Saturn Vue 2003 with a vti transmission on April 1st 2009, with a 41000 miles. On November 09, 2010 the transmission failed. I had to tow the car to different places and no one is willing to do the work. The car has only about 69000 miles and it should be still under the new gm warranty to replace the transmission. I am a single mother who cannot afford to pay for a new car. Please help. Thank you. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving down a city avenue during rush hour, the transmission failed. No warning, just failed. Several good samaritans pushed me across 3 lanes of traffic to get me off the busy road. It died while I was in gear and driving. I did find out that this model was part of a recall and I ended up paying 2500 for a new transmission because they said the recall had expired that I did not take in on time. 5 years later, it's doing the same thing. A new transmission costs around 3000. What part did they pay? did they even replace it? 2 years after that the engine quit on a highway off ramp with less than 100k miles. I had to replace that. Then 1 year later, the entire brake system had to be replaced to the tune of 1200. We got a tune up and oil change as we were headed to breckenridge, the tech said we were lucky because the brakes would have been useless in mountain driving. That was a scary thought for sure.
2003 Saturn Vue cvt transmission failure, car had 54,000 miles, first transmission replaced at about 30,000.
-total failure of the vti transmission (Saturn Vue 2003, 4 cyl). . . . . The cost of the repair is $5900 and. . . My 2003 Saturn Vue vti transmission failed at 100,000k miles. . . .
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated after receiving notification of an unknown recall regarding the transmission, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer advised there were no failures found within the transmission. Six months later, while driving at speeds of 50 mph, the vehicle began to jerk violently and stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined that the transmission had failed. The contact believed the initial dealer should have been able to determine the failure because the component was under recall. The failure mileage was 97,000.
Driving at speeds between 30-45mph the rpm's rev up but the car slows down! on hills, it won't accelerate at all! even in low gear it won't move. Rpm's jerk at high speeds as well. Had diagnostic done 5-7-10 they said that the transmission is failing between 2nd & 3rd gear, it's not reading any codes and the fluid is discolored. Estimating cost to fix is $3,000. Truck has less than 100,000 miles on it!! problem occurs everyday -- transmission hasn't completely failed yet, but I fear is going to happen soon! I have no idea how I'm going to pay for this. . . I've only had this car 2 years. I think it is a safety concern when you're on the hwy and your car won't accelerate and people behind you are swerving to miss you and blowing at you.
Transmission failed on the PA turnpike and lost power in an unsafe pull off of highway.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn view. While driving approximately 29 to 30 mph the vehicle lost all power without warning and she noticed that the rpms increased to 4000. She experienced the failure three times and the third time, the transmission failed. She contacted the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that they were aware that the transmission was defective, and they will give her 50% toward the replacement or they could give her $ 5,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The transmission will be replaced. The failure and the current mileages were 87,900.
I purchased a 2003 Saturn Vue with a defective vti transmission, Dec. 09. The Saturn dealership in raleigh, nc, did not inform me of the defect, upon the sales transaction. A service bulletin came out 12/09, from gm to appease consumers, by offering an extended warranty to help with the cost to replace this defective part, however, gm needed to fix the problem and replace the defective vti transmission with a part that is not defective. Instead, they leave consumers with an unsafe vehicle that will continue to break down causing safety concerns and huge out of pocket expenses. The car has lost value because of the defective part and worst of all I am afraid to drive it for fear of breakdown, particularly at freeway driving, which has been noted by other consumers. Gm loses 100m lawsuit because of early transmission failures in more than 90,000 Saturns carrying the vti transmissions and still their has been no recall. This investigation and recall is long overdue and affecting used vehicles that are still being sold today, with the 2002-2005 Saturn Vue and ions between 2003-2004 and 2000-2003 Saturn l-series, containing the vti transmissions.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue purchased used in December 2009. She found that while driving on the highway the vti transmission could fail. The contact felt unsafe in driving her vehicle due to the fact that upon contacting general motors, they confirmed with her that there was a defect in the vti transmissions but there were no recalls for the failures to date, she had not experienced any failures with the vehicle. The current mileage was 53,000.
2003 Saturn Vue vti transmission failures. First failure in 12/2006 w/84k miles, Saturn paid for half and it still cost me $1700 to fix. Now we have 132331 miles and the transmission has failed again. Saturn wants $6000 to replace transmission. The car is worth $0 with or without replacement. Saturn has known about past failures and does nothing to help.
The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. While driving 45 mph the vehicle begin to hesitate and decrease in speed when the contact engaged the accelerator pedal. She was able to safely drive onto the emergency lane; however, the rpms increased rapidly. The vehicle was towed to auto repair shop where the mechanic stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle was towed to another mechanic for a second opinion, who also confirmed that the transmission caused the failure to occur. The vehicle remained at the repair shop until a decision is made to repair the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 72000.
I own a 2003 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder fwd. I bought it in October 2009 only to find after 2 months that the SUV was a total rip off. The transmission failed and I had to spend 5000 dollars and wait for months because the kind of transmission was not easily available. I really wonder how a car with such serious defects still available in the market? can't NHTSA do anything in this regard? gm used a faulty transmission and they winded up the company putting all customers at distress. No service,no parts and how come the cars are not at recall? I searched NHTSA website and didn't find a recall on this model for faulty transmission. In the last 10 years no other model would have received this enormous complaints. Roll over risk on this model is too high as the SUV really sways at even small turns at low speed. Aren't these reasons enough for a recall? you have to stop this model from being sold anymore as unaware customers like me get totally deceived and are left helpless only to spend thousands out of pocket in this tough economy. If the cars are to remain, gm should be able to provide adequate service and support.
