A stuck brake caliper piston extended far enough to release brake fluid resulting in complete loss of brakes. It failed a few blocks from home on city streets and no damage occurred. Required towing to a repair shop. No photos but attached is a receipt for repairs.

Rear brakes wore out at 55k miles. Front brakes still had 7mm wear on them. Technician said it was probably due to corrosion of the calipers. The calipers rusted, causing the brake pads to be in constant contact with the rotors, wearing them out prematurely. This could have caused a fire in the vehicle due to overheating of the rotors. Same thing happened on my 2009 Subaru Forester. Rear brakes wore out at 85k miles, with 6mm left on the front brakes. This sounds like a design problem to me.

I have had several occasions where the wheel lugs have snapped while the wheels were removed for tire replacement, rotation and replacement of brake pads and rotors. I have also had the brake caliper retainer bolts snap while the vehicle was in motion so that the rear brakes on the vehicle were next to inoperable as only a portion of the brake pad came in contact with the rotor. The dealer did not make any attempt to resolve or repair the brake rotors or pads under warranty when this happened. What made it more of an issue was the the local dealer didnt have these parts on hand and gave me the specs for the bolt to purchase from the local hardware store. These new bolts have held.

The auto under warranty and has calipers that stick, this is a danger from every mechanic I spoke to, Subaru refuses to honor the warranty, from everything I have read and heard, Subaru has had a constant caliper problem and will not make good on it - they say it is ok to drive like this, I have two little children and I was told by several mechanics that this could be a fire hazard, Subaru should be held responsible for this problem and make good on it.
2013 Subaru Forester. 07/25/14 car had difficulty time accelerating on highway. Reported to the dealer that right front wheel started vibrating and getting very hot. Dealer inspected r/f wheel, rotor was blue and hard to turn. Inspected brakes and found pads stuck in bracket. Cleaned and lubed pad slides, checked caliper which was ok. Replaced r/f rotor due to runout caused by heat, had . 007 run roadtest ok. ) the caliper was not replaced on 07/25/2014. On 08/18/2014 the same problem happened car had difficult time accelerating. Both front right side and left side were very hot. Got car towed to different Subaru dealer on 8/18/2014 and they could not find any problems with it.

I own a 2010 Subaru Forester with only 31, 000 miles. I had to replace the rear right rotars and calipers and all 4 brake pads. I am very concerned, these are not normal wear and maintenance.
The brake line and brake caliper rusted, car has been maintained and checked regularly, while driving we lost rear brakes, almost caused an accident, spent at least 900. 00 in repair, Subaru refused to refund money, even though there was a recall for brakes lines. Please help.

At 23,486 miles, I took my car to my local and very reputable garage that specializes in Subarus. Once they got my car in the shop, they told me I was not going anywhere as the car was dangerous. It was towed to st. J. Subaru where I purchased the car. The left rear pad was missing and the caliper had been hitting on the rotor and ruin the caliper. At that initial repair, the Subaru service person said: "we've had some premature wear with the back brakes for some reason. " 20,000 miles later, the same thing has happened again and the dealer gave the party line. . . To bad, warranty up. It appears there is some manufacturer defect with the brakes. Please look into this right away as I cannot afford to replace brakes every 20,000 miles. Thank you.
