36 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/19/2021

Sometimes when a passenger sits in the front passenger seat the airbag light will show that it is turned off. It happens about 70% each time we are in the vehicle. I don't know if it is a wire issue or the airbag sensor. It seems that it is covered in other recalls, but not my vehicle. Not sure why but it seems they are the same system.

37 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/16/2021

Airbag occupancy sensors fail if driver or passenger are warm from exercise or damp. I have experienced this many times in the course of my ownership(2015-present). The dealership reports the system is functioning properly although 2012 Imprezas were recalled for a similar issue.

38 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

When an adult passenger is sitting normally in the front passenger seat the passenger air bag regularly turns off. The warning light comes on indicating the air bag is off. This put the front passenger at risk if their air bag fails to deploy.

39 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/25/2021

The seat bag indicator light in my 2013 Impreza (manual) goes on in humid weather -- all fall, winter, and spring it's fine; as soon as humid summer weather comes. . . The light goes on. I assume that because the light is on the air bags won't work!!. . . This seems like a pretty bad problem to me; and from what I can see I am not the only one with this issue. Mileage if you need it 107005.

40 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/02/2021

Not quite sure what specific part or wiring location but it’s somewhere in the electrical system. The car is available for inspection upon request. Started out with electrical system on not allowing the windows to roll down and the bluetooth connection malfunctioning to cause a high pitched screech. It is ear piercing and scared me half to death driving down the street with rush hour traffic and almost caused me to crash into someone. It does it at unprompted times and would be afraid to swerve into somebody and cause an accident. Trying to turn it off or turning the volume down makes it louder and the only way I’ve gotten it to stop is to turn off the car. A couple of days later, the power wouldn’t turn off on the media center or cycling through modes (fm/am radio, bluetooth, usb, cd) and caused the same high pitched screech. Now the drivers window does not roll all the way down and slams the window down the door at random times. Followed by the airbag sensor not enabling when an adult is sitting in the passenger seat. This can put passengers at risk if involved in an accident and can’t climb out the windows or the airbags from being deployed. The car is serviced at the dealership every time maintenance is needed. Dealership maintenance appoint is on Monday September 21st 2021 at the mccurley dealership in pasco washington for other wear and tear maintenance but will ask them to inspect this as well. There has been no prior messages, symptoms, warning or maintenance lamps before this issue occurred. It started to do this back in the beginning of August 2021.

41 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/18/2021

I had my dealership investigate an issue with the passenger airbag in my 2013 Subaru Impreza. They diagnosed a short in the ods module in the passenger front seat. The dealer stated they need to replace the passenger seat. After the diagnostic fee and labor, this would cost $1500. I did some research and discovered the ods module was recalled in the 2012 Subaru Impreza, NHTSA campaign id 15v419000. The summary of that recall describes exactly what happened: "Subaru of America, inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2012 model year Subaru Impreza 4-door and station wagon vehicles (except wrx/sti models) manufactured April 21, 2011, to February 16, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the occupant detection system (ods) may deactivate if a front seat passenger operates a device that is plugged into the power outlet such as a music player or cell phone, or touches a metal part of the vehicle such as the forward/rearward seat adjuster lever. " my wife plugged her phone into the power outlet when the passenger seat airbag indicator switched to off.

42 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/04/2021

Airbag notification light sometimes turns to off even when a passenger is in passenger seat. This causes me great concern as if I were in an accident would my passenger be protected? looks like Subaru issued a recall for the 2012 model but not for the 2014 model. Please help me keep my passenger in the front seat safe and have Subaru fix this known problem.

43 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/26/2021

I purchased this vehicle 06/23/2021. I drove it the first time long distance (concord nh to stoughton MA) with a passenger for the first time three days after purchase. The passenger air bag is off light came on and would not register my passenger. It worked on and off the entire ride, starting with it working and then would shut off, on the highway, while my passenger never moved from the seat. I called the dealership and they said they would look at it. They did nothing, they blamed it on the seats having been steam cleaned (that dampness messes with the sensors? as if that's a reasonable reason my airbag won't deploy?) I asked if they checked the connections and they just blanket answered that they'd need to see it with the light on, and that 'I'm sure the technician checked everything'. I'm unsure how to do that other than driving to the dealership with a passenger the next time it happened? today I drove it, again with a passenger, and it worked only one way on the trip. I pulled over, tried to shut off the car and turn it back on, had my passenger get out and back in the vehicle, nothing would fix the light being on and the airbag indicator saying that the airbag was off. I'm extremely concerned and honestly don't understand why any vehicle would have a sensor that shuts off the airbag. There is already a recall for this issue in suburu foresters, years 2015-2018 I believe. I would also very much like this resolved in my model, it is extremely unsafe and I'd prefer not driving it at all but have no choice right now. I would be happy to have this inspected by someone. The internet suggested loose connections, or a faulty seatbelt, or the sensor itself which is connected to the passengers seat. This component has only been inspected by ed reilly suburu on manchester st. , in concord nh and they did not fix it. The vehicle only has 52,000 miles on it and is supposed to be one of the safest brands of vehicle to drive.

44 Air Bag problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/09/2021

The problem: like over 50% of adult americans, I am female. I am 5' 3. 5" tall (average for n. America, folks!) and weigh 109 lbs. I am also 66 years old and it's likely that despite my very active lifestyle (I'm a backpacker etc. ), my bones are more brittle than a 25-y. O. Man's. Your agency has failed in its duty to ensure the safety of all americans. Not just men and fat women. In order to reach the accelerator and see over the dashboard, I. E. In order to drive these vehicles which have passed your safety requirements, I sit in the death zone of the driver airbags and steering wheel column in all three vehicles I own: this 2009 Impreza, my 2000 outback station wagon, and my 2012 Ford f350 winnebago RV. Please don't tell me that I should buy one of the very few vehicles that might fit me better. I live on a mountainside in alaska and need winter traction and handling. Why should my vehicle choices be narrowed because you have failed to recognizew that I exist? as a retired federal scientist and policy wonk with a law degree, I am appalled at your agency's callousness towards me and other average height drivers. How long will it take my government, staffed by people whose salaries I pay, to recognize that the male body is not the default for all humans? I am letting my senator, lisa murkowshi, know that it's well past time for the NHTSA to protect me as well as it protects my husband.

45 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/08/2021

On may 8th of this year, my fiancé were involved in a rear end collision. That morning, the Hyundai tucson in front of us stopped short and we ran into the back of it doing around 35 an hour, and ended up with our vehicle (Subaru Impreza) being totaled. I’d like to provide pictures to show the impact, as even car experts have been surprised that the airbags didn’t deploy. As it turns out, a sedan hitting into the back of an SUV means that the airbag sensors may be untouched (because they’re too low) and therefore, airbags will not deploy, even if the accident severe. To me, that is a defect in the design and should be reconsidered going forward. My fiancé broke his foot , which caused him to be out of work for at least 4 months and I got whiplash.

46 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

Passenger airbag turned off while driving with an adult passenger in seat. Pull over and turn car off it will be on again. Will happen completely at random when driving, not that often but about once a week. Dealer told me it was probably water damage to the sensor and to replace the whole seat for over 1000$ . Never heard of another cars airbag sensor system breaking or becoming u reliable if it gets wet. . . . Because car seats get wet all the time. And if I replace it it will get wet again. If someone sits on seat who is even the least bit sweaty it will turn itself off. But also will turn off when there is just a normal (non sweaty or wet ) adult person riding in seat, while in the middle of driving! it's extremely unsafe and if this is the design plan extremely unfair and ridiculous for the consumer.

47 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

Passenger air bag red dash light remains on weather in motion or stationary with a passenger or without. Amber air bag center dash light remains "off" in motion or sationary with or without a passenger in the seat. Turning the car on or off does not change the issue. Car has 112,000 miles.

48 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

Passenger airbag system intermittently remains off when passenger is seated in front passenger seat. Sometimes it appears to operate normally, but about half the time the passenger airbag indicates off when it should be on. Vehicle motion does not seem to matter, wet conditions does not seem to matter either. Unknown whether this is a passenger detection malfunction or a passenger airbag malfunction.

49 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

Front passenger ods malfunctions exactly per the description listed in recall #wqt-55 under safety campaign 15v419000 and had made previous attempts to have it addressed for at least 2 years now through Subaru. However my vehicle was manufactured just outside of the manufacturing date range of the recall. Took vehicle to dealership to address other outstanding recall items and asked to have issue diagnosed for the ods. Technicians found code b1650, which matches one of the dtcs of the recall. Called Subaru corporate again to request the malfunction be addressed and they could not cover the cost of the repair of the ods as the vehicle does not fall under the manufacturing date range. A copy of the Subaru recall has been attached with this message for reference.

50 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

While driving (on any kind of road), a light indicating the passenger airbag is off will illuminate, even when there is a passenger in the seat. The light comes on intermittently, and sometimes the passenger airbag will become active even with no passenger in the seat. Charging a phone or even placing a phone in the seat seems to make the issue worse. Taking it to a mechanic resulted in fault code b1650: occupant classification system malfunction. I have since learned this exact issue was the source of a 2012 Subaru Impreza recall, but not for the 2014 models, where this issue is occurring. This is a major safety issue for 2014 Subaru Impreza models. Forum searching has revealed several hundred other examples of this issue, largely in 2013 and 2014 models. The 2012 recall should be expanded to 2013 and 2014 models, as these models clearly have the same issue as the 2012 models.

51 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

We contacted the company about getting the recalled airbags fixed and they said that they would contact the dealership in order to set up an appointment to get them fixed and they have never reached back out to us in order to resolve this issue.

52 Air Bag problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/04/2020

Subaru is unable to repair my vehicle for almost a month, I use my vehicle for work and this recall is potentially deadly.

53 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

I very rarely detail my vehicle. Only once when I bought it in 2013 and again recently. Both times, the seats were still wet from the detailing process when I picked it up. Both times, while someone was sitting in the passenger seat while it was still slightly wet, the dashboard lights showed that the passenger airbag was not on. It didn't matter if the car was moving or stationary. Once the seat dried, the airbag appeared to function normally. My husband took the attached picture while I was sitting in the passenger seat.

54 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/08/2019

When driving with a passenger the air bag for the passenger will not turn on and dashboard lights will come on.

55 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/11/2019

Since about a year after I got the car, the passenger detection system will turn off the passenger airbag with an adult in the seat, or just won't turn it on at startup. It's almost always off at any time while driving with a passenger. It will acknowledge a passenger, if one is present, as it dings to buckle the seat belt, but the airbag stays off. Or, it will be off, then detects a passenger after a while, and turn on, only to turn off a few minutes later.

56 Air Bag problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

Takata recall. I went to the dealer and was told that they would either require me to pay to have aftermarket guages removed prior to them performing the recall, or they would not be responsible for any damage they caused to my aftermarket guages while performing the recall. The free recall is going to cost me money that I shouldn't have to pay.

57 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/14/2019

Passenger airbag turns off while there is a passenger in the car. I have had it checked at john howard Subaru in morgantown, wv. They were unable to find an issue. It has happened at least three times to me as a passenger in the car. I have attached two pictures of the lights while I was in the passenger seat. I wasn't wetthe invoice from the service appointment to have it checked is attached as well. The last occurrence of this was July 14, 2019. Thanks.

58 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

Passenger airbag turns off when a passenger has damp or wet clothes and doesn't turn back on for over a day.

59 Air Bag problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

Takata recall- I was driving in the slow (right side) of the freeway going about 68 mph (between 65-70), there was a small amount of traffic. There was an extra lane (temporary 3 lane for entrance, but normal 2 lane freeway) to my right and I began merging (or possibly swerved from looking over shoulder. . . And a bee flew into me while I was driving also causing me to swerve a bit). I ended up in the fast (left) lane that was going slower due to an unknown reason. . . Which caused me to slam on the breaks, but I rear ended the car in front of me at an angle (my driver side front to their passenger side back) because I swerved back into the luckily empty spot next to me, but it wasn't fast enough to not hit the car in front of me. I didn't see my exact speed when I hit the car but I was going over the documented (on previous page) speed that the airbag should have deployed with the amount of impact our cars struck. . . This vehicle was going less than 20 mph and I was going somewhere between 50-60 mph and the impact was all on the front driver side so from what I've been reading that the airbag should have gone off. . . . Especially since I had the recall fixed/serviced in December 2018, where I had to bring the car back to the dealership about an hour later because some "hosing" wasn't correctly reinstalled. So I'm curious if anything else wasn't installed correctly that caused the airbag not to go off. I had just taken full coverage off my insurance to save money three days prior to the accident because I am in the moving process-now with no coverage to my damage (which my insurance quoted around 2900$ had I had full coverage still), as well as medical insurance for myself and I spent about 8 hours in the er. Which also won't be covered. I am not 100% certain of how the accident occurred because I wasn't sure why traffic was slowed so suddenly; the airbags should have gone off?.

60 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

If the two front seats are mildly wet, then the front air bags will turn off. This means that if you spilled a drink, have bladder problems, went swimming or snowboarding, or have wet vacuumed your seats then the airbags will turn off. They are off until the seat completely dries wether you are moving or not. It happens every time the seat gets wet.

61 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

Manufacturer recall numbertkc19 - NHTSA recall number19v009000. Various Subaru dealerships are booked through October '19, and January '20 in the MA area. This is forcing people to drive with defective vehicles for far to long. The only information I could get out of the phone reps was that they are limited to how many of these recalls they can perform a day. There should be no limits. It's unsafe for the wait time to be 6 to 9 months to get the repair fixed.

62 Air Bag problem of the 2011 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

Takata recall: per the notification I received in the mail, I attempted to make an appointment as soon as possible to have the necessary work performed on my vehicle. The dealership was farrish Subaru in fairfax, va. I scheduled my appointment last night for March 25. I received two emails today from the dealership. The first advised me that they had canceled my appointment. The second stated that they planned on scheduling all recall appointments for the first week of may, almost two months from now, which seems like an unacceptable amount of time to wait. I do not have alternative forms of transportation readily available and I frequently have passengers riding in my car. I have attached screenshots of the emails I received from farrish Subaru.

63 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/27/2019

Vehicle was involved in a front end collision with another vehicle traveling perpendicular to each other. Speed of the Subaru was between 10 and 20 mph at time of impact with full abs actuation on snow covered roads. The front of the Subaru was pushed back far enough so that the radiator is now in contact with the engine. The driver was wearing his seat belt, but still made contact with the a-pillar with his head, causing minor injuries. There was no air bag deployment.

64 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

To start off I have an extended warranty on my vehicle felt my clutch starting to shift they told me I needed a new clutch flywheel and throttle bearing. Took it to a independent repair shop. They replaced the throttle bearing which was completely warped clutch was good but replaced anyway because at that point why not the entire transmission was out. Called Subaru nothing was done. 66 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/16/2018

Occupant detection sustem on passenger side malfunction, does not always recognize passenger. Sometime s it stops working in middle of trip. Happens sporadically, but is becoming more frequent and does not always resolve with restarting car. Has to do with capacitance detection, but so far Subaru dealers I contact act like it's not an issue though earlier model apparently has recall for exact issue. And no the passenger isn't wet. Has been occurring for over a year and we have pulled over and restarted car, but on recent trip it was much worse. And shouldn't be happening anyway!.

67 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

There is a safety issue with the occupant detection system. When there is a passenger in the front right seat the airbag sign will say passenger airbag off. This will happen when the car is moving or stationary.

68 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

Passenger and driver's air bags will show disabled whenever an electronic device is present on the person in the seat. Occurs in all conditions. Does not enable after removing electronic device from person.

69 Air Bag problem of the 2011 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

Wearing my seat belt, I was driving up a hill going 50 mph and rear ended an SUV in front of me and side swiped another car on the drivers side. Both front tires busted, hood smashed in, both head light broken out, windshield wiper fluid container completely on ground, motor pushed back into the transmission, bent frame, everything under the hood of my car was pushed back, doors jammed shut and not a single air bag deployed. No air bags deployed, no powder came out, nothing. Luckily I wasn't hurt but the way my car is smashed I should of been badly injured or dead.
