Subaru Impreza owners have reported 15 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Subaru Impreza based on all problems reported for the Impreza.
A bad oil valve in the engine tripped the check engine light upon starting the car. The bad valve was possibly letting sludge get into the engine. At only 60k andwith doing religious oil changes on time, this appears to be a defective part for which a service bulletin but not a recall has been issued.

The check engine light, the traction light and oil warning light came up on the dashboard. Initially, the dealer recommended replacing the oil valve. I did but the the problem persist. Now the engine is hunting. The dealer informs me that engine is not pumping enough oil despite the fact that service has been done regularly at interval recommended by the Subaru dealership. Now I am told that I need a new engine.

Hard start, rough idle, drove 3 miles, check engine light turns on, code: p0021 bank1/2. Did research. It's a banjo bolt filter/screen mine was cracked in half inside the oil line restricting oil to the turbo. Managed to remove one easily accessible banjo screen which fixed half the problem. The other bolt virtually not accessible by me. Almost all turbo vehicles from Subaru experience this problem as code: p0021 or just catastrophic turbo/engine/coolant failure.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The contact also stated that the air pump inadvertently activated and deactivated while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a code p0410 (secondary air injection system or fuel pump system) that needed replacement. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The contact stated that a year ago, bloomington Subaru, 7801 lyndale Ave s, bloomington, mn 55420, informed him that the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that he replaced the mass air flow sensor by himself. The contact also mentioned that his vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v738000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

On 07/08/2019 I took my Subaru Impreza to a local dealership to have recalls wue90 and wty84 competed. It now seems that whatever work was done to satisfy the recalls has been causing the car to malfunction. The recall service was completed on 07/09, and I picked it up that day. Beginning on 07/10, however, the check engine and vehicle dynamics control warning lights started coming on intermittently. So far, these warning lights have displayed for a portion, or for the entirety, of 22 of the past 32 days. Both lights (check engine and vdc) have displayed together every time, and are usually on or off when the vehicle is started. When the lights are on, the cruise control does not function and I have noticed a significant (-21. 6%) decrease from my average gas mileage. On four occasions that I am able to recall, the warning lights also came on under braking (I. E. They were off when I started the car and then turned on at some point during my trip when I pressed the brakes). Whether the warning lights are on or off, I have no way of knowing what isn't working (other than the cruise control as I mentioned). I have taken the vehicle back to Subaru twice to try to resolve the issue: first on 07/10 and then on 08/07. They scanned the codes, did some work on it, and gave the car back to me, claiming that it was fixed. The one thing they are failing to consider is that the problem may actually be related to the service performed to complete the recalls because I've never had an issue with the vdc since I bought the car almost six years ago, and I don't believe the check engine light has come on during that period either. At this point, I don't even know if the car is safe to drive. Attachment: photo of warning lights after leaving the camelback Subaru (phoenix, az) service shop on 08/07/2019.

Recall work to replace the valve springs was performed may 13th. Check engine light came on may 14th. Less than 500 miles and one month later it threw a piston rod and blew the engine.
I was driving and the cruise control light started blinking, the check engine light came on, and the traction control light came on. Https://youtu. Be/zujiggdqq5e.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 subura Impreza. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated and the contact became aware that the vehicle traction control system to fail. The contact was unable to drive the vehicle in snow condition. The contact stated that an unknown independent mechanic performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the engine air valve. The contact replaced the engine air valves himself. However, the repair did not correct the failure. The contact also took the vehicle to an unknow dealer. The dealer performed a diagnostic that advised that the engine valves needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also wanted to add that the engine vales designed is what caused the traction control system to fail. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 58,000. Li.

According to the dealership the catalytic converter in my 2008 Subaru Impreza has prematurly failed. The vehicles check engine light came on and the car went into "limp" mode while driving, in conjunction with the check engine light my vehicle has been experiencing very poor gas milage for the last month. The dealership has quoted me over $2000 for the repair of my car. It was brought to my attention that several other same model year Subaru's have recalls due to the catalytic converter not performing to emission standards. Some of these cars have the exact catalytic converter part number as my car, I do not understand why car would not be recalled also.
The contact owns a 2007 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and when accelerating in fourth or fifth gear, the vehicle would stall. The dealer advised the contact that the air valve was clogged. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The contact was awaiting repairs to the vehicle. The current mileage was 114,000 and the failure mileage was 110,000.

When in to star Subaru for a turbo change and my engine went 1 week later. My check engine light went on 2days after got car back from star suburu service and less then a week the engine went. Had car towed back to star Subaru and my piston had shattered. Now they are said that it was do to the way the car was driven and so the Subaru warranty now doesn't want to pay to fix it. My understanding is that they just put in the new turbo without checking the airfuel were it was at or they may had forgotten to put in the oil. I am fighting the case and they don't want to accept that they didn't do what they were suppose to. My car has been in and out of the Subaru since I got it I bought it with 32,000 and now it has about 48,000. I only have the have 1 1/2 year. It has been a nightmare with this car and dealing with star Subaru and the Subaru warranty.
My car is a total lemon. I pre-ordered the 2002 wrx in 2001 and was very anxious to receive it. As soon as I got the car the check engine light was on. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a cam position sensor wich they replaced 3 times. They told me I revved the car too high to throw the code. The code was thrown at 6200 rpm and the engine redlines at 7000. The dealership refused to work on this problem after the 3rd time. At 45000 miles my car began to miss and not run correctly. The dealership could not find any problem with it. I took it to another shop to get a 2nd opinion. They found that the cam position sensor had malfunctioned and caused my car to missfire when I would hit a bump in the road. They replaced the sensor and charged me a fee of $800 due to the massive troubleshooting work that led up to solving the problem. Finally the problem that I had since the car was brand new was fixed at the full cost to me. At 48000 my transmission was the next to go. I lost the ability to shift my car in any gear. I had it towed to the dealership as the powertrain warranty is 60000 miles. They dismantled my transmission to find 2nd gear stripped. They then denied to cover this under warranty as it was labeled abuse. They charged me $800 dollars for their time. Then then gave me a quote for $4500 extra dollars to replace the transmission. I had my car towed to the same shop that fixed my check engine light. They installed a new transmission for me at the cost of $2200. My transmisson has also broke again at 65000 miles. Now I have a car that doesn't run that I am paying on. I can not sell a car that doesn't run. Subaru does not care that their cars are junk. I really do not know what to do now.
