The car is a 2011 Subaru wrx sti. As far as I can tell nothing led up to the failure. It was fine one day, then failed the next. The failure was broken piston ring lands on the #2 and #4 pistons in the engine. The consequences were that I needed to replace the short block of the engine along with all associated parts like new pistons. Subaru replaced the short block and all associated parts under warranty, including new pistons and rings.

2006 Subaru sti driving home 20 mph oil light flickered then stayed on for 20 seconds engine starved of oil, shut down. Had engine removed to find oil pick up tube the weld had failed causing no oil to motor, now motor is junk. Now I find out this is a common problem. Subaru of America has made a up dated tube,my question is why? a problem. I have had my car for 3 months now its 6,000 dollar repair, for a poor weld job on a 20 dollar part. The sales on these tubes are not going to reflect on how many have failed because who can afford 6,000 dollars every time it fails. So after market pick up tubes are be purchased that are made to last. I have all old parts and photos of all old parts. I see tons of people have the same problem Subaru is making a killing, selling engines. We need some help here please its time. I paid 20,000 for this car used car lot now I need to find 6,000 more dollars this is not easy for a 21 year old man. Please help. I just scrolled back you asked for components name its not listed so I went with engine.

2009 Subaru Impreza wrx wagon has 5960 miles was a new vehicle purchase in October 2009. Vehicle new car guidelines were followed as were the maintenance procedures. The vehicle engine I feel has a mechanical defect in the engine. The engine has spun a bearing blown a rod and damaged the crankshaft. This from what have researched is not an uncommon problem.

While driving my 2006 Subaru wrx sti the engine suddenly seized up on the highway. There was a loss of power to everything including the power steering and brakes. I had to perform emergency maneuvers and steer into the emergency lane on the highway. I had the car taken to Subaru, they refused to honor the power train warranty on it and wanted $1500 to even look at it. I think took the car into a private mechanical shop and they found the cause of the problem, the oil pick up line cracked in half. The motor started to suck in air instead of oil which caused critical failure and subsequent seizure. Apparently this is now a common problem with 2006 Subaru's which is caused by a manufacturing defect on the oil pick up line. I would like Subaru to acknowledge the problem and compensate me for the cost of rebuilding my engine.
The contact owns a 2008 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the engine vibrates and rumbles every time the vehicle is started. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that nothing was wrong. The contact also stated that the vehicle had 19. 5 miles when it was purchased but, when he received the paperwork, it read 99 miles. He believes that he was shown one vehicle and was sold another. The VIN and mileages were unavailable.
At 15,000km past warranty, I submitted my car for service and was told the engine was leaking fluids, required new head gaskets, new transmission mounts and sway bar bushings. Barrie Subaru did not show much interest in the amount of work required on a vehicle that had been on the road for less than 3 years.
