The spot welds under windshield cowl broke causing the bracket holding clutch pedal assembly to break. Because of these issues, I can only engage my reverse gear half the time and while shifting gears in motion, it tends to be a bit difficult. I've almost crashed a couple times because of this issue. My car is a 2008 Subaru wrx sedan with only 74,000 miles and I'm currently making payments on the car. Money is really tight due to me being a full time college student and full time worker so I'm not sure how to go about this really big problem. My car is everything to me right now and if it fails on me, I have no means of transportation. I also have no modifications to the vehicle other than wheels, and a blow off valve. The vehicle tends to give me the most difficulty engaging reverse every morning.

Subaru of America inc. Should recall 2008-2014 Impreza, Impreza wrx, and Impreza wrx sti. These vehicles just above the drivers feet, use 6 spots welds to hold a mounting bracket for the pedal assembly to the inside of the firewall. This design flaw, where the pedal mounting box is spot-welded to the firewall using only a handful of tiny spot welds is dangerous. The firewall itself is of a weak design and inherently has quite a bit of flex and over time and normal use these spot welds fail from too much stress and the pedals will begin to squeak, creak, pop and eventually the pedals will move away from the firewall when depressed. Once this happens the clutch and other pedals will no longer properly engage or disengage and the car will no longer be drivable. In the event of this failure at highway speeds potentially catastrophic loss of life and endangering the public. Safety risk firewall failure potential result in loss of vehicle control. The sudden loss of function of pedal assembly including clutch, brake, and acceleration pedals. Loss of vehicle control may lead to occupants having serious injury or death especially at highway speeds. Remedy Subaru will notify their owners. Dealers will facilitate the, permanent solution which involves properly welding the pedal assembly box to the firewall with a continuous seam weld along the circumference of the mounting tab, free of charge. . Tl the contact owns a 2008 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the clutch pedal became very wobbly and almost detached. The contact stated that the manufacturer sent him a technical service bulletin extending the clutch attachment component; however, the dealer (Subaru superstore of chandler, 1050 gilbert rd, chandler, az 85286) never had the parts to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000. The VIN was unknown.
During normal use of the clutch on the street , the firewall welds brake off causing the firewall to bend. Also effects the clutch pedal making it 'click' if not fixed can cause more damage.
Chassis fatigue and cracking resulting in damage/potential compromise of driver controls. Clutch pedal assembly broke and will no longer dissengage the clutch(drivetrain system). This happened while driving on a local highway at a speed of approximately 45mph. I was forced to drive the vehicle off of the road to avoid a potential collision with another vehicle. The whole assembly is comprised of both the clutch and the brake pedals. Due to the assembly failure the brake pedal has significant play in it as well and doesnt function properly. Upon inspection I found that structural welds on the firewall, where the assembly is mounted, have failed. I called Subaruofamerica about the issue on 08 may 2018. I referenced two different TSB's regarding this issue on my year range of vehicle. 1) NHTSA 10090413 TSB we 2) NHTSA 10090409 TSB 12-184-15 I was told that the extension to the warranty expired in 2013 and there was nothing they could do for me. Even though these TSB's are date 03 February 2017.
My 2012 Subaru Impreza is experiencing consistent pedal squeak/creaking coming from the pressing of the clutch pedal. The sound is heard from inside the cabin as well as from under the hood.

The clutch pedal on my 2008 wrx makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed. When I investigated the noise, I noticed that the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch every time the clutch pedal is depressed. I found that the three spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall were broken. From the outside of the firewall, just under the windshield wipers, I saw the spot welds pulling away from the firewall every time the clutch pedal was depressed. This allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move, causing the creaking noise. If the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become completely inoperative - especially dangerous while driving.
We had a new clutch installed and the brake pedal and clutch pedal now move together. Simultaneously this not only is a safety issue but has potential to cause premature clutch and brake failure.
Due to the firewall flexing every time the clutch pedal is depressed, over time the spot welds connecting the clutch pedal mounting bracket to the firewall fail. This allows for play in the entire clutch/brake pedal assembly. Given enough of the welds break, the vehicle can no longer by put into gear. I became unable to put the car into reverse or first gear from a dead stop. It took about 5 minutes of trying to get it into 1st to get home. Luckily this did not occur while at speed.
The clutch pedal on my 2009 wrx constantly requires adjustment to enable the release of the clamp pressure on the driven plate of the clutch assembly when the clutch foot pedal is depressed. Upon investigating a creaking noise, I noticed that the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch to the left and down each time the clutch pedal is activated. This clutch pedal bracket assembly has three broken spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall. From the outside of the firewall, underneath the driver's side windshield wiper, I confirmed the manufacturer's spot welds are pulling away from the firewall each time the clutch pedal is depressed. This weld defect stemming from the manufacturer allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move unsecured, ultimately preventing the transmission to engage the vehicle into 1st, 2nd, or reverse gear. I have been able to make clutch pedal adjustments to temporarily engage the gears, however if the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become inoperative. This notorious defect is well known among Subaru car owners and is indeed a safety issue that can directly cause a vehicle collision.
When I push clutch in its popping and flexing. I found that the whole pedal assembly is moving back and forth causing firewall to flex at spot welds. Its causing clutch engagement difficult.
I bought my 2009 Subaru Impreza wrx hatchback a little over a year ago because it is supposedly a reliable vehicle. I have always noticed a slight shift in the brake pedal when engaging the clutch. We were told by many Subaru owners that that is normal. About a month ago it became very hard to put the car into reverse. It is now almost impossible to put my car in reverse as well as shift between gears. We were going to replace the clutch but after looking online noticed the hundreds of complaints about the same exact thing. The clutch will not engage because the firewall is cracking where the master brake cylinder mounts for it are. Apparently Subaru is aware of this defect but has not done anything to remedy the situation.
The fire wall is cracked and the welds are broken which is causing my clutch to not disengage properly and the clutch pedal to not function correctly.
Car used as daily driver to commute less than 14 miles round trip for work. Clutch began to develop a pop noise which then turned into a loud squeak followed by more than a 1/2" of movement to the left that the brake pedal would start to move when the clutch would be depressed. After further investigation of reading local owners threads and asking around I have found that the welds that hold my brake and clutch together have broken and are continuing to break which could lead to my clutch pedal assembly falling down to the floor board which could potentially render me from using my brake pedal. This is a common issue with all Subaru Impreza wrx and sti owners which can be found on multiple local owners club websites and could affect bodily harm to drivers of the cars and other drivers on the road! Subaru refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem and in most cases will not cover repair costs!.
Starting to have problems shifting into gear especially getting into reverse. I took my vehicle to a local auto repair shop. The tech wanted to replace the entire box pedal clutch assembly. After the pedal box was received they noticed it wasn't the box at all, but the firewall welds holding the clutch/break pedal box were broken on the firewall. Because the welds snapped the clutch/brake cage moves and it can't let the clutch travel far enough to properly engage causing the clutch to work properly and also the breaks cant be pressed correctly to stop the car. The mechanic told us not to drive the car for safety sake till the welds were repaired or we could have an accident.
Cpsc:i1490369a. 2008 Subaru Impreza. Consumer stated the welds that hold the clutch bracket to the firewall failed, causing creaking, popping and increased pressure to fully depress the clutch pedal.
My 2010 wrx sti hatchback is making a creaking/flexing/bending sound every time I depress my clutch pedal. I started to notice this about a month after I purchased my vehicle and at first I thought it was just a noise issue and upon further research I noticed that my clutch pedal/brake assembly is flexing and the spot welds are failing on the firewall. I have taken it to multiple dealerships in virginia and they all have said it is "normal" and refused to work on it saying my warranty has expired. I am not sure if the vehicle is safe to drive or if the assembly will stop working causing an accident, injury or death.

The clutch pedal on my 2011 sti makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed. This allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move, causing the creaking noise. If the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become completely inoperative - especially dangerous while driving. This has also directly caused the failure of three clutch master cylinders in the last 6 months. 2 of which failed at freeway speeds leaving me with no clutch, and a hardly any braking capability. (the clutch and brake pedal are both attached to the same assembly, thus when the clutch does not work, neither do the brakes. The welded clutch bracket behind the dash board broke, making my clutch pedal useless and my master cylinder flex forward badly. This is unacceptable. My car is not under warranty anymore and this is a 14 hour labor job. Any other power train related repair would be expected at this mileage, but there should never be a welded bracket that breaks.
Welds attaching the clutch pedal to the firewall broke. The clutch is now nearly impossible to engage and the brake pedal moves 3/4 of an inch when the clutch pedal is depressed. According to the mechanic, the car is now at risk of losing ability to brake if the welds completely detach from the firewall. The welds hold the entire pedal assembly in place.
Clutch pedal on 2008 wrx has developed a creaking noise every time it is depressed. Brake pedal shifts forward and to the left upon depression of clutch pedal. This is a reasonably well documented problem of the clutch pedal assembly spot weld joints failing. This is a safety issue that should result in a recall.
2009 Subaru Impreza wrx - clutch pedal started to malfunction, began making a creaking noise when depressed, and wouldn't shift cleanly into most gears. We originally thought it was something that needed to be lubricated or adjusted but this was not the case. Over a short time, this creaking noise turned into a clicking noise when the clutch was depressed. We took the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased 8 months prior - the dealership service foreman and service manager both advised us that some of the spot welds that hold the pedal assembly to the forward firewall have broken. Both men insisted that they had never seen anything like this before (not comforting coming from trained Subaru service specialists) and had no indication as to how it had happened (other than being in a serious accident since we purchased it, which is not the case and there is no evidence to the contrary, I. E. Body damage, vehicle history reports, etc). Upon researching further, we found that there have been many instances of this issue happening. Stohlman Subaru of vienna, va told us that it was our problem and that if it was their car, they wouldn't even bother fixing it! I find this very hard to understand, as the car is not cheap, it is made for rallying and racing, and while the repair is extensive (so we were told), it definitely would not be more than the vehicle is worth. Why would they recommend to us to not fix the car? this appears to have been a relatively common issue on Subaru Impreza wrxs, and just that fact alone points to defective equipment. Although there has been no official recall on these parts, it is a huge safety concern. Each time the clutch is engaged, we run the risk of breaking the final welds, which leaves you with zero control of the car. The vehicle is currently not being driven. The dealership has been utterly worthless for any help or guidance.
The vehicle developed a crack in the fire wall. Every time I press my clutch pedal there is flexing in the assembly and makes a loud crack/squeek sound. Its a daily driver vehicle so its never been raced or tracked. Due to this fire wall crack (which might be dangerous in fire/accident) my transmission gears and syncros have been worn out due to the clutch not releasing properly. I know I am not the only one with this problem, I would hope that Subaru of America will one day make a recall for this terrible problem because I dont think that I should be responsible for a huge defect like this, the vehicle is no longer safe for many reasons and is wearing out my internal components every day. Please help me!.
I own a 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx with a stock clutch. For approximately 2 years I have been hearing creaking and/or clicking noises when engaging the clutch pedal. In April of 2013 chatham Subaru in GA replaced my clutch due to the metal clutch fork wearing through at the pivot point within the bell-housing. They also noted a very hard clutch pedal and spongy brakes before the repair. They replaced the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, fork and master cylinder (I replaced the slave cylinder before I brought it in) all of which I paid for. Initially the clutch felt great (brake feel was unchanged), but has since began to harden again. . Read more...
Had a squeaky clutch pedal for the past few months. Yesterday it became very hard to shift into gear. I noticed when the clutch was depressed, both the brake and clutch pedals moved about 2" to the left. Looking further, it looks like the sport weld have given way where the brace mounts to the firewall. Researching I found many people with the same issue. Car is almost undriveable and unsafe.

Clutch pedal squeaks while being depressed. Clutch pedal is attached to the firewall. Firewall joint is weak. Brake pedal will slightly shift when clutch is depressed. There is currently only minor movement but it has become worse and worse. There are shops that offer a "repair" by re-welding the firewall but it is an expensive fix. I foresee this being a safety issue and needs to be a recall. The firewall seams could break and we could lose our braking. Also, the firewall would not be able to do its job of protecting us from a potential fire. Please advise. I want this repaired before it becomes a major or catastrophic issue.
Failed welds connecting pedal panel to the firewall. Results in loud squeaking when clutch pedal is depressed/released and the panel welds may fail entirely on my '08 sti.
My clutch pedal starting squeaking in January. I thought it was squeaking because it was cold outside and thought that the problem would go away once the weather got warmer. However this is not the case and upon inspection, my spot welds are broken where the clutch attaches to the firewall. After a search, I have found that this is an extremely common problem with this model car and no recall has been issued. I have also found that many people have not had any luck at all by trying to get the dealer to fix the issue. It is definitely a flaw with the car and not an isolated incident with just me.

My 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx has had a "hard clutch pedal". Im an auto tech at a dealer so I took a look at it. I checked the spring and the pedal. I found the pedal would bend the mounting location under the dash when pushed in. I looked on the firewall under my wiper arms where the welds are at. The weld that holds the clutch and brake pedals to the firewall is cracked and now is cutting a hole in the firewall. I checked online for some help with the problem, and I found out im not the only one with this problem. I took the car to my local Subaru dealer. The dealer told me I needed a clutch. I ask them to look at the firewall welds that hold the clutch and brake pedals to the car. They told me to go away and not bring my car back to them! I called Subaru of America after this all happened. They told me to take it to another dealer. So I did to one " 3 hours away ". The next dealer told me the car is not safe to drive and weld is cracked on the firewall, and they called Subaru of America (soa. ) soa never called the dealer back and I took the car home and waited. They called me 5 days later and told me I would have to pay 1/2 of the bill to fix the oem defect on the firewall welds. I feel as though they don't care about this safety issue even though after some research online it is clear that im not the only one having this same issue. I have videos and pictures showing the defective welds and can produce them for you. I noticed this issue around 58000 miles. Vehicle now has 60500 miles.

I have a horrible squeak coming from my clutch pedal. For several months now, when I depress and release the clutch a loud squeak squeaking noise is produced. This week the clutch pedal began to squeak constantly while driving as if were loose. I have to brace the clutch pedal with my left foot in order to stop the noise which is constant at most speeds and especially over bumps. A closer look revealed that it appears the welds on the clutch pedal are beginning to fail where it attaches to the vehicle's firewall. This would eventually lead to the pedal breaking off during driving and the potential of a crash.
