1 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/03/2006

I bought my Subaru Impreza wrx sti brand new, and after having it about 4 months a transmission mount called the pitch rod mount broke in half. The mount broke under normal driving conditions, and resulted in damaging the clutch line. The fluid in the clutch line was drained and this resulted in my gears scratching and overall ruined my transmission. In the end I took it to the dealership and had to replace the mount, clutch line and the transmission had to be re-built. Now I was not aware at the time that the mount was broken so to my surprise that after everything was fixed ($2,800 later) a week later I heard a pop. I thought to myself that it could be the mount again. So I reached my hand slowly behind the hot intercooler covering the entire top half of the engine and felt that again the pitch rod had broken. This pitch rod needs to be recalled and is costing people a fortune!.

The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road safely. Then it was towed to the local dealer who determined the manual transmission needed to be replaced.

3 Manual Transmission problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/30/2004

2002 Subaru wrx - I took the car in for 30,000 mile service, car was running fine, no complaints. When I got the car back, I noticed that it was difficult to downshift into first gear, and I was sometimes missing the shift - grinding gears. I have never had a problem like this in any car before. The problem is more severe at higher speeds, and is getting progressively worse over the last 5000 miles. I have taken the car back to the dealer twice, the first time they "couldn't see anything wrong", the second time they noted that the "sencros" were going bad. I have just returned from the dealership and talking to the service tech, who claims this is a problem he sees a lot on wrxs, and that "there isn't anything I can do about it"!! the dealership has promised to "look into what we can do", but meanwhile the car is getting less and less functional. I am deeply concerned that the intention of the dealership is to stall till the warranty runs out (I'm getting close) then tell me it's my problem to deal with. I believe this is a safety issue because not being able to shift into first gear has the potential to cause a chain reaction pile-up, as there are stoplights highways on hills near where I live. An incident of stalling due to shifting problems could cause following traffic to badly misjudge the speed of the stalling car in situations where the light has changed and there is slow moving traffic followed by faster traffic (previous light turns sooner, lights not coordinated).

4 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/29/2004

I have had a first gear grind ever since the day I bought the car. Made several attempts to have dealer correct the problem. First technician even said it was internal. Finally got the fluid changed to correct ths issue at 14k miles, helped but did not fix. At 26000 miles I take it to another dealership and they also confirm there is a problem. Dealership say they will not work on it due to an aftermarket exhaust. I explained it is a prexisting condition and the exhaust would have no affect on this particular scenario. Dealership stonewalls me on this issue but promises to still fix the seat (since it has nnot been modified) I asked for the technical explanation of why the tranny was not covered under warranty, they refused to issue either verbally or in writing.

9 Manual Transmission problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

First gear is a major issue in my vehicle. I can only engage first gear, if im at a complete stop. So if ive slowed down to 5-10mph im forced to go into 2nd gear, which not only wears out my clutch prematurely, but could also cause an accident if I needed to build speed quickly. The transmission overall seems to be a big issue with wrx owners. . Read more...
