Flexible exhaust bellows that connect exhaust manifold to catalytic converter is cracked and exhaust fumes enter the cabin. This causes headaches and nausea while driving and idling especially with the hvac system on. There is an active recall on prior year vehicles with the same body style and engine combination. My vehicle is not covered.

I recently bought a used 1999 Subaru Legacy wagon. The previous owner told me there was an oil leak that resulted from the oil filter fracturing. This caused smoke to come from oil burning on the hot exhaust manifold. After owning the car for a few days, I had the oil changed and noticed that the vehicle still smokes around the exhaust manifold after driving it. I can also hear oil dripping from the filter onto the manifold. While online reviewing my car insurance, I noticed that this very problem is a recall defect. I followed instructions and called Subaru about this. The representative named patricia said that there was no recalls for this vehicle and quickly ended the conversation. I know this is an issue with this vehicle and need this addressed. My wife and baby ride in this car. The recall # is -98v127000. Thank you.

Car has 78,000 miles. During reg oil change it was discovered ;hat my head gaskets are leaking oil. If not repaired will crack my heads. Cost is $2,2oo-$2,400. This seems very premature for such a serious, expensive repair to be needed. Of course warranty ran out @ 75,000 miles. Didn't extend warranty because in the past I have found that they never cover what breaks.

I was driving on a dirt road when the exhaust pipe broke from in front of the muffler. The muffler was not supported by hangers in the front, dropped down and dug into the dirt. The rear of the car pole-vaulted over the muffler, leading to a temporary loss of control. Fortunately, I was going slow and straight at the time, and there was no other traffic. The damage to the rear of the car was substantial. The muffler was replaced, and the damage to the rear quarter panels and trunk was repaired by a body shop.

1996 Subaru Legacy, brighton model sw 65,000 miles I purchased the vehicle new. I have had plugs and wires replaced several times in the past year. This last time one plug wire and plug was bad. The problem I was having was when accelerating at high speeds there was a miss or hesitation in the engine as well as the a shaking. Also, the check engine light came on. This also happens more often when the vehicle is cold or when it is cold outside. My local dealer finally believes it is a bad valve guide. He dropped the exhaust manifold and could see one of the guides having down from there. I have not had this fixed yet, I just found this out 1-2-04. I understand there has been several Legacy's which were made in 1995 and 1996 that have had this problem. I have also seen a complaint which was filed at this web site regarding the same problem it is odi id no. 732588. This is a costly problem and feel Subaru should recall these vehicles. I am hoping to get the problem fixed within the next week or so. I also feel dealerships should be made aware to check this problem when plugs begin to fowl out like mine has done several times now. I will let you know how this goes. Jd.

Problems with vehicle blowing head gaskets. While driving, the check engine light illuminated, smoke came from under the hood and the tail pipe. Vehicle was towed to a Subaru dealership where it was discovered the problem was a blown head gasket. Coolant and oil sprayed all over the engine and ignited a small fire on the exhaust manifold, but it extinguished itself. Consumer had vehicle towed to her local dealer. She obtained two opinions and they both said the same thing. Extreme coolant loss but no evidence of a leak. It appeared without taking the engine apart to be a factory defect. It's either a defective head gasket, casting flaw in the metal or a head that wasn't torqued properly. Consumer would like Subaru to cover the entire cost a of a engine (including labor), reimbursement for air flow and filter replacement, reimbursement for towing, cost of a rental car, and mechanic's vehicle check for a total of $1976. 16 dollars.

Vehicle would hesitate at 35mph or less. Had taken vehicle to dealership 6 times for stalling. Mechanic had replaced oxygen sensor & coil packs each time. Even had it test driven. Problem could not be resolved.
