3 Warning Light On problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/08/2018

Purchased a new Subaru Legacy Feb. 28, 2018. After only 70 miles the warning light for seat belts and airbag malfunction appeared on a starlink system and dash. After immediately taking it in at the local car dealer, service agents claimed that a "rodent" has caused the damage. After further research, we have discovered a national civil suit against Subaru. Apparently they are using biodegradable materials on the wiring of many new cars that attracts squirrels and mice. We have lived at our current residence for over 35 years with numerous cars in the driveway without this problem. Consumer reports on July 10,2017, reported that they have uncovered various technical bulletins from Ford, gm, Honda, Toyota, as well as Subaru concerning this issue. Dealer, at the moment, refuses to fix it without extensive cost to us. This is a serious problem with this car--driving it would not only be unsafe but illegal since the air bag as well as the seat belts show a malfunction. Fixing it may not solve the problem on permanent basis.

4 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

I noticed airbag sign comes on even after the recall for airbag was completed on the car within last 10 days. The dealer says it will cost $350 dollars to investigate and repair as an approximate estimate for budgeting over the phone. So I did internet search on similar problems, and found out via youtube videos and car mechanic blogs that it is Subaru's electrical solder problem (electrical connection) that triggers the passenger airbag light on and off intermittently and therefore the airbag warning sign turns red. What is the point of doing a recall when they cannot check the entire system ? NHTSA has erred by not mandating manufacturers to "test the entire airbag system for normal functioning". The dealer told me that the only thing the recall does it replace the faulty unit, thats it. So basically, the system may malfunction, but that is not covered by safety airbag recall ? can someone explain me the logic here? a lot of Subaru customers are facing this electrical solder safety problem . Some might not even be aware of the warning light. It is my strongest opinion that NHTSA take this request very seriously and issue an addendum to airbag recalls to test the entire safety system for optimal functioning . Yes, I intended the caps to be on because I cannot stress enough. Meanwhile, a blanket recall should be issues by Subaru to fix the faulty airbag indicator connections that is triggering the warning signs. . Read more...

8 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Dash warning light has come on and gone off on a regular basis since I purchased the car a little over 2 years ago. It seems to happen more in the winter. If I look online it appears as if there are many complaints about this part and the average cost seems to be 300-400 dollars to fix it. If an airbag is not working because of a faulty part I believe this to be a huge safety risk to anyone in the vehicle. With the recall on the brake lines in my car failing what would I do if I lost my brakes while driving and the air bag was not working?.

11 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 04/08/2013

My 2008 Subaru Legacy with 59k miles was having intermittent air bag warning light issues. The air bag light would turn off and on at random times with no pattern or reasons. The manual advises to have the air bag system immediately checked out to find reasons that would illuminate the warning light. Took the car to the dealer today and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty over head map console light cluster near the sunroof controls. The official part that has a short or faulty wiring is part # 84621ag51a. I only need the airbag wiring but unfortunately the entire overhead cluster is necessary because they don't have just an airbag wiring replacement part. The total cost to have the air bag system back to working order was $294. 00 complete. I have ran an internet search engine and this issue is very common. It seems irresponsible for Subaru to have such an important safety system be disabled by a faulty crappy soldering job in the over head map light console.

12 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

I own an 08 Subaru Legacy 2. 5i sedan with approximately 77000 miles on it. At approx. 76000 miles, the "airbag" warning light came on in the main dash cluster. Referring to the owner's manual, all it said was that this light indicates a problem with the airbag system and that the system may not allow the airbags to deploy at all during a collision, or may deploy with even a light collision. It recommended to take the vehicle to the dealer immediately. I took the car to the Subaru dealer I have always had service done, and they told me the "lamp assembly - map" had an electrical short in it and needed replaced. An "electrical short"? that sounds very serious. With parts and labor, the cost came in at $389. 30, which seemed quite excessive. As critical as airbag systems are, it would be reasonable to think that this type of problem should warrant a safety recall, especially given the warning in the owner's manual that the system may not function at all if not taken care of. Also, the service agent I spoke with at the dealer said there have been a "handful" of this type of problem, and treated the situation as routine. . . . Like an oil change or filter replacement. I also own a 07 Toyota rav 4, which has had several recalls issued for seemingly much less critical issues. All of them were taken care of by Toyota. I wrote a similar letter to Subaru America, explaining that, given this issue, I would have to think twice about purchasing another Subaru vehicle in the future. Thank you.

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2006 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

June 2012 - replaced front control arm bushings which were worn after only ~80,000 miles, earlier than would be expected. Rear control arm bushings are also wearing and will need to be replaced. August 2013 - airbag warning light on dashboard came on and stayed on while driving with a passenger in the front seat. Brought the car to the shop who informed me it was a faulty map light assembly. Was also informed that this is common with Subaru's which research online confirmed.

Failure Date: 05/13/2005

Takata recall, was talking to dealership, but lights still indicate airbag ,cruz control , check engine light came on. Was taken to dealership for repair and reset. But I don't think it was done. Other recalls on break line coating's not done , I lost break lines while driving,at three different times. Subaru issued a second recall , with explicit attention to the area where the line connects to the break for rust. The dealer was to to replace any break lines showing damage in this area. This recall was taken in and again was not replaced . They coated maybe on top of the rust. I had the remaining break line replace asa percausetion measure ,all cost to me. Seat belt not retracting , when released. ,this was replaced twice . It still does it and the webbing I cought up in the door closesing. The rug hook drives side replace three times warning lights still on ,for cruzcontrol, does not functioning. I used it maybe 3 time's since l bought the car new. Went through the first set of tires, cubbing do to warped rodtors in not even 700 miles. Still doesn't stay in alinement. Eats tires ,4sets by 67'00 miles. Dash electric ,cd ,heat radio, security system defo all one computer panel, would wear battery dead over night. I had to plug it in to slow chargerthat shut down went battery was charged. Untill a correct replacement ,unit could be found. Took awhile, very limited Legacy wagon. I have a brief case af picture s and work orders in plastic sleeves. When time for warranty was up , I had less then 20'000 miles on the car. Subaru corporate, paid some of the serious fuel issue it had. I have not had a collision what does vehicle.
