36 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

My Tesla stopped in the middle of a 4 way intersection without notice. As I was turning left, the car started to shake for about 2 seconds and then stopped. No warning or anything. The notification stated "electrical system unable to support functions. " my safety was put at risk and others. I was traveling with my 11 month old and other cars could have hit my car if they were not paying attention when coming through the intersection. The car was towed to the Tesla dealership. No warnings prior to the failure. Warnings appeared after the car stopped.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

The horn button is dangerously placed. It is near impossible to activate in an emergency situation and has been worthless when I needed it. Nearly got hit a number of times that could have been avoided if horn was operable in the center button. There should be a free retrofit.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/14/2024

I had a reoccurrence of incident 11609414. After the original incident I had my car towed to the service center and "fixed". I paid out of pocket since my warranty did not cover the problem they claimed that caused my issues. 5 weeks later I had the same issue recur, while out shopping. My car would not shift into park, the emergency brake failed, my seat restraint failed, my airbag failed, my abs failed, my steering assist failed. I had to stay in my car with my foot on the brake until I could get my car towed to the service center. Had I taken my foot off of the brake my car would have moved forward into a coffee shop filled with people.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/02/2024

On oct 2, 2024 while going to school to pick the kids, when my wife was turning right into a parking lot after slowing, my Tesla Model X plaid car acceralated and went into high speed (plaid mode) hitting a tree at top speed even though brakes were applied. Upon research, this looks like sudden unintended accerelation. The car luckily hit the tree on the passenger side and the front right wheel flew to the back seat and all air bags were deployed. The car was totaled. Miracleously, she had minor external injuries but due to the speed of impact with the tree, she was flung forward and after the CT scan, we found that she had vad with severe damage to both her neck arteries. She was taken to hospital in an ambulance, had a surgery and still has trauma and medical appointments to fully recover. In Mar 2024, there was always a software problem with my car failing to detect the car was open and hit the garage roof with the falcon wing. On another occasion, the car failed to detect my other car when it was too close to it and I had to apply the brakes although the car was to stop automatically. Tesla refused to treat this as warranty even though the car should not move when doors are open. After 6 months, I ended up fixing the car at a Tesla collision centre. After multiple follow ups via email, chats on Tesla app and phone calls post the accident on oct 2, 2024 with Tesla pleading with them to provide the edr report and address the issue as warranty and not hearing back, I am logging this so that customers are aware of this dangerous flaw that can be fatal. It looks like Tesla wants to delay the case for long so that they can force the customer to accept a low settlement. I was also planning to buy a cyberbeast but not going to anymore.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

When driving my car last Friday evening at ~5:45pm pst, I was about 1 mile away from home when alerts popped up on my car including- "regenerative breaking unavailable", "abs disabled", "stability control disabled", "traction control disabled", "steering assist reduced", "automatic emergency braking is unavailable" front passenger safety restraint system fault" "park assist unavailable". I drove the last mile to my house and when I pulled into my garage my gear shift would not work to put my car into park. I tried to then do a "soft reset" by holding both buttons on the steering wheel down, and this would not work. I frantically called the nearest Tesla service center and after 20 min the person there told me there wasn't anything they could help me with and gave me the number for tessa roadside assistance. This whole time I had to have my foot on the break pedal to keep my car from moving forward and going through my garage wall into my house. I was on hold with Tesla roadside assistance awaiting an answer for another 30min, and after talking with an agent he told me to "find a large rock to put under my tires to prevent the car from moving forward", this wasn't a feasible option as I was alone with a 12 year old girl, there are also not any large rocks near my garage. Tesla service then connected me with a towing agency, but let me know that since my car warranty only covers my battery and drive train, I would have to pay for the tow out of pocket. The tow truck driver came about 20 minutes later, so at this point I was sitting in my garage with my foot on the break pedal for well over an hour. There was no way that anyone could power off the car or get it into another gear other than drive. There was no way to access the 12v batter and disconnect the car since I couldn't open my frunk as the car was not in park. Without the assistance of a tow truck I could have been stuck in my car for hours holding the break pedal.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 07/21/2024

Ac compressor failed within 1000 miles of high voltage battery being replaced. This is the second ac compressor failure, the first failure occured at approx 70k miles, Nov 2022. The ac is used to cool the battery during high voltage charging and driving. Upon failure speed can be reduced, determined by multiple factors and charging rate is reduced as well. I was told it was an internal failure of the compressor and when pressed further Tesla was unable to explain why it failed, again.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

Placing the turn signal 'buttons' on the steering wheel makes them impossible to use when the wheel is not centered. While driving parking lots and roads with immediate left/right turns and or intersections it is impossible properly signal while driving this vehicle in it's current condition. By not being able to signal, it increases the likelihood of a collision.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/10/2024

I just had a forth occurence of the "safety restraint system error" message on my Tesla. I say forth, because the three times previous, I had to go into Tesla to have them "fix" the issue, only for it now, to happen again for the 4th time. I don't think this is a small issue, and you guys need to know about it. Not sure, this is just faulty service teams, or inexperience, or. They are just failing to fix it properly. But given that the messaging has to do with seatbelts and/or air bags, I think this is pretty important.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

The contact owns a 2016 Tesla Model X. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number:23v838000(electrical system; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle will inadvertently accelerate causing the contact to rapidly depress the brake pedal to avoid collision. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000 . Parts distribution disconnect.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

April 2024: Tesla Model X repeatedly failed to download firmware updates, although offered via the car’s ui. The car uses the connected wifi to download several gigabytes of data every month, but ultimately does not apply any updates. This is a serious safety issue, since it prevents all future software update recalls from being available to this vehicle. May 15, 2024: Tesla failed to fix this issue through remote diagnosis, and requested a service center visit. Tesla engineers diagnosed the vehicle at the burlingame CA service center, and spoke to me on the phone that the root cause was a recent firmware upgrade that has permanently bricked the ecu unit, which now needs to be replaced. Since this ecu unit is not user-accessible or user-serviceable, there is no way for this to have been caused by the customer. Tesla quoted $2048 to fix it, out of pocket, even though this damage was not caused by the customer, or related to regular wear-and-tear, but (as acknowledged by Tesla) caused due to a faulty firmware update issued by Tesla themselves. May 17, 2024: after pointing this out to them, Tesla managers called me, offering to discount the repair by 25%. Many similar complaints about the exact same part (ecu unit) and the same mode of failure (bricked after buggy firmware update) can be found shared online by others. This is a systemic issue, and not a one-off failure for my car alone. [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] all I am requesting is that Tesla fix this issue at their own cost and make my purchase whole, but Tesla has not honored that request so far. Thank you! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

47 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 05/11/2024

While driving on interstate, a semi trailer began merging into my lane. I attempted to hit the horn and no response was produced by the car. The stoke steering wheel does not have a push horn, and requires a button. The hand mash is supposed to work per elon musk on x. I was unable to perform potentially impactful sound response to other vehicles. The horn should not be allowed to be a button as emergency situations do not allow a refocus.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 04/13/2024

This vehicle has massive and unbearable static electrical shock when the car stopped and trying to close the door as metal body of the car. And I have several videos showing the electric shocks the auto pilot stop the vehicle on the highway for no reason that’s put the passenger in serious rear collision.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/25/2024

Turn signal buttons do not work for short periods of time while driving. It is available for inspection upon request. I am unable to signal for merging and turning which is unsafe. The problem was not reproduced, but was confirmed. Yes the vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer and corrective action was taken. However the issue has not been fixed. No other warning lights, symptoms, or messages.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/25/2024

While operating my vehicle, it is required to use turn signals to indicate turning intention to other drivers. Even after thousands of miles of use, the 'capacitive touch' buttons on the steering wheel that Tesla has are unsafe, unusable, and infuriating. These buttons are difficult to locate, difficult to engage with and impossible to use quickly or reliably. Every Tesla without turn signal stalks should be recalled. I often press the wrong button, no button, or just have to simply give up on signaling because it is impossible to safely or reliably use the buttons provided. Turn signal stalks are easier, faster, more reliable, and thus safer. Please help end this nonsense by requiring Tesla to fix this. Thank you.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/21/2024

On 3/21/24, while driving my second Tesla Model X on i395 from carson city back to reno at the speed of 79 mph on autopilot, the same sudden loud alarming situation occurred, with 1. Park assist unavailable 2. Steering assist reduced 3. Adaptive ride control degraded 4. Traction control disabled 5. Stability control disabled 6. Lane departure avoidance features unavailable 7. Automatic emergency braking is unavailable 8. Automatic vehicle hold disabled. I drove to s stop, the car can't park but remained in neutral gear. Can't hard reset. With my prior experience 1 month ago, I changed it into tow mode several times, finally was able to switch into park mode then was able to do a hard reset. When I brought in to Tesla, they said it's the same problem, steering rack issue. Another $5300 is gone. How can I be so unlucky to be hit with same model, different year, same problem, same driving condition and almost same place on earth, and both out of warranty and I have to pay in full? there must be manufacture defect on this!!!!!!.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/09/2024

On at least 3 separate occasions, we parked the vehicle in a lot with no cars or obstructions nearby. We attemped to open the falcon doors to get our baby out and they would not open signalling an 'obstruction'. Then we attempted to override the obstruction and it refused to override. We had to remove our baby out of the front of the vehicle. I've reached out to Tesla for over one month with zero support.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/08/2024

The contact owns a 2020 Model X. The contact stated that while the vehicle was plugged into the home charging station an app message was received that indicated the vehicle had no charging power. Upon inspection it was discovered that the home charging station electrical cables connecting to the home had malfunctioned causing the electrical wiring to become burnt and chard. The home electrical wiring was also damaged during the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 53,000.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/05/2024

The horn is a small button on the steering wheel instead of the larger pad in the center of the steering wheel. When making turns or complex maneuvers the horn is not easily found since the steering device is turning. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

As proactive and responsible car owners, we experienced an alert on our Tesla x stating it needed service, vehicle may not restart. We also recorded a concerning noise that clearly showed a problem . . . And brought the car into the Tesla blue ash service center. It was estimated 3/4 hours to repair. After a day or so, we inquired and we were informed of "difficulty" performing diagnosis. We once again patiently waited for a diagnosis that was not received until we inquired again, days later. The car was held for a week and deemed acceptable as noted in the invoice. We drove this vehicle for less than a total of 1-2 hours over Saturday to Sunday to discover it unresponsive in our garage. It was stuck on the charger. Hv battery fully charged. Tesla remote came out to remotely help us. They attempted replacement of the 12v and then stated it wasn't safe and that he couldn't put it into tow mode due to the voltage leak concern. We had two aaa tow truck drivers refuse attempt to tow the vehicle due to the impossible location. We were informed by Tesla that based on their algorithm at the first appointment nothing alerted them despite our video of the concern. They were not able to locate the problem and that led them to release an unsafe vehicle to us. We took our car to a trusted Tesla service center immediately and as experts of the vehicle they were not able to accurately and proactively diagnose a problem until the ac compressor was completely dead. We then were stuck to tow the vehicle back to them despite bringing it in with an early concern.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 02/07/2024

I was driving on i395 from carson city to reno in washoe valley while on autopilot, the car suddenly alerted with very loud alarms, showed 1. Steering assist reduced, 2. Automatic emergency braking is unavailable 3. Traction control disabled 4. Stability control disabled 5. Park assist unavailable. I pulled over to a safe parking area. Then the car locked out for 75 mins, in neutral gear, can't shut off, can't park, can't reset the car at all even after talking to Tesla support. While waiting for the tow truck, I turned it into tow mode, was able to change into park mode finally, and hard reset the car. I took it in and Tesla told me the steering system was the problem and I was out of warranty so I had to pay a lot of money to repair/replace it.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

The car door propped open as I was driving the vehicle. There have been multiple repeated concerns that I have had with this vehicle. It is unsafe.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/24/2024

The car front passenger side door open while driving and does not close and the car sting in babson college campus as my daughter cannot close door, cannot drive and Tesla service does not give repair date before two weeks and no one else knows can repair this part . This is third time in 3 months we are having problem and after spending over 3000$ in less than 3 months with full inspection down by Tesla . The service people are rude and does not care for student safety as well. Such a shame.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/13/2024

Horn button location is dangerous in eminent accident situations. Instead of a large center push location on the steering wheel the horn is a button which is hard to push and locate in an emergency situation and is a large distraction from watching the road and avoiding the accident.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/26/2023

The contact owned a 2023 Tesla Model X. The contact stated that while driving into her driveway, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated, and conversely, with the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. As a result, the vehicle collided with the rear of another vehicle parked in the driveway, sending the other vehicle careening into the garage. The air bags did deploy. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The occupants transported themselves to an area hospital for treatment; the contact was treated for a broken hand and two broken ribs, and the passenger was treated for bruising and a sprained ankle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v679000 (electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic), but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 5,000.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 11/18/2023

I had my two Teslas parked in the garage. The Model X was charging at about 1:30 am. We heard explosions coming out of the garage. Went to check only to see my Model X in flames. We evacuated and called 911 eventually a fire investigation report was made showing the fire started within the vehicle outward. The battery pack was on fire. We had lithium contamination all over the house and this fire endangered five lives. This incident has been two years ago and until now Tesla refuses to acknowledge the faulty battery and is refusing to do anything about it.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

68 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

The component that is not working on my car is the intermittent windshield wipers. The issue is that the intermittent wipers do not come on in eaither of the 2 low settings. The wipers only work in the steady low and high settings. When it is just misty out or a light rain, you have to manually push the button at the end of the stalk to give a swish of the wipers. If you are on the steady low setting, it is too much and the wipers squeak on the widsheild. I originally brought this into my Tesla service center in October and they told me that this would be fixed in a firmware update. I have followed up a few times as the update never came and today I am back at the service center and they have told me that they are still waiting for this problem to be addressed and that I should just use the other low and high speed wipers to clear the mist. It is now the end of December, almost 3 month later. This is not safe and should be addressed right away.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 09/21/2023

Manufacturer designed a pyro fuse (a/k/a battery fuse), the purpose of which is to open the main battery's circuit in the event of a detected crash via a squib charge, in order to prevent further property damage or risk to life. The obsolete design contained in this model depends on a small lithium ion battery with a 7-10 year lifespan. In this car's case, a timer notification kicked in at about 6. 5 years of life. The risk to not recalling this part with the new part design (self-charging from the current) and all affected models in the fleet is that now all these vehicles risk higher odds of a catastrophic battery fires during collisions and other failures the fuse was designed to prevent.
