1 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2018 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 12/04/2025

Vehicle: 2018 Tesla Model X recall reference: Tesla emmc recall – NHTSA campaign number 21v-035 (recall 21v035000) defect description: in March 2021, Tesla notified me by email of a recall involving failure of the emmc memory chip in the media control unit (mcu). This defect is known to cause loss of vehicle system functionality and safety-related features. Despite this notification, Tesla has refused to honor the recall and replace the emmc when I brought my vehicle in for service. Current vehicle condition: my vehicle exhibits severe and worsening symptoms consistent with emmc failure, including: system freezing and frequent unresponsiveness gps extremely slow or nonfunctional turn signal indicators intermittently fail horn fails to operate approximately 95% of the time vehicle reset/reboot does not work touchscreen and vehicle controls are very slow or nonresponsive these issues occur regularly and without warning. Safety risk: this defect creates a significant safety hazard. The failure of turn signals, horn, and system responsiveness increases the risk of accidents. The inability to reset or restore the system while driving further endangers occupants and other road users. Due to these failures, the vehicle is unsafe to operate. Manufacturer response: although Tesla issued a recall notice in March 2021, they have declined to perform the recall repair on my vehicle. No effective remedy has been provided, and the vehicle’s condition continues to deteriorate. Request for NHTSA action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Tesla’s failure to honor recall 21v-035 and require Tesla to provide the mandated repair. This unresolved defect affects safety-critical systems and presents an ongoing risk. When I went there last Dec 4 to get this repaired, they wanted me to upgrade and pay almost $2000. I am willing to pay half of the cost but not the entire amount.

2 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2023 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 01/06/2023

There is an issue with the gps in that the location is not accurate, sometimes it is off by 10-20 feet, enough to put it on a different road, sometimes it's off by 100s of feet. This is very dangerous as when using autopilot, it uses map data to set the cruising speed, and if the gps is reporting the car is on a different road, the speed can change to being faster or slower than the actual road the car is on. This results in sudden braking. The car will be on the highway, traveling at 55mph, and then all of a sudden the gps thinks its on a side street near the highway, and quickly brakes hard to the side streets speed limit 25mph. With this issue, its not always safe to operate the auto pilot. Many people in Tesla owners forum, say the issue is from an interference with the cars internal cabin camera and the gps antenna and replacing the camera fixes the issue.

3 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2017 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 10/03/2022

Original infotainment mcu1 with upgraded memory continues to not allow service mode to initialize. Also screen goes black with no connectivity to the car from my phone app, no access to temperature control, or gps mapping. No access to any seat controls or door controls. This occurred for 1 hour while driving to home. System is operational again - 10 days later with no driving in between. Tesla service came out to diagnose and are not sure of the cause, however failure cause safety issues for passenger overheating and control functions to operate the car as well as diagnose the issue.

4 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

There is an issue with the gps in that the location is not accurate, sometimes it is off by 10-20 feet, enough to put it on a different road, sometimes it's off by miles. This is very dangerous as when using autopilot, it uses map data to set the cruising speed, and if the gps is reporting the car is on a different road, the speed can change to being faster or slower than the actual road the car is on.

5 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 07/09/2022

Gps drifting that has effectively rendered my navigation, autopilot, etc. , completely useless. It was actually dangerous on autopilot while gps is drifiting. While driving on the highway, the gpa thinks the car is on local, it would slow down the car to local speed all of a sudden. Almost got rear ended. It's even more dangerous when merging the line.

6 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2022 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 06/08/2022

Gps location in this Tesla Model X can drift massively for many minutes, resulting in very unsafe autopilot (such as thinking it's suddenly in a 25mph zone while on the freeway, or vice versa), confusing directions and prompts. 7 Navigational (global Positioning System) Gps problem of the 2016 Tesla Model X

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

On July 3rd, 2020 we observed that our center console was completely dark. This impacted many components and features of the vehicle including but not limited to the heating/cooling, rear camera, audio, bluetooth, gps, side mirrors, etc. We were notified by Tesla that an mcu was ordered and we would be notified when it arrives. As of 7/29 we still do not have a date for when the new mcu will arrive.
