While driving in autopilot my mcu (Tesla controller) occasionally fails. This means the autopilot computer works fine but all audio notifications do not work. The autopilot will change lanes for me without the normal auditory notification. Turn signals are silent. The mcu will then completely freeze (no touch input and gps frozen while driving) requiring either a manual reboot by myself or it crashes completely and reboots itself. 5 visits to my service center in the past 13 months of ownership to address this issue have not resulted in a resolution. They tell me they "flashed the storage" or "upgraded the firmware" but the car continues to prove this did not resolve the issue. Autopilot functioning without notifying the user of maneuvers could be deadly. It is a self driving car but still requires drivers to pay attention and take over if autopilot makes a faulty decision. I have videos of this happening. Attached I have uploaded invoices from the service center showing I have brought mcu failure issues to them on multiple occasions and continue to have issues. Note that line item 14 on the invoice dated 01132021 Tesla inaccurately states my no audio on automatic lane change issue. I requested they rephrase this issue to the issue I reported but they refuse to put this in writing. Why? suspicious.

The mcu (main graphical display) will lose all sound (loss of warning sounds, blinker sounds, loss of radio), freeze (requiring a manual reset/reboot, or take a long time to boot before the car will start. This happens frequently (many times a month for the last 6-9 months). It has been somewhat less often after a recent software up from Tesla. One should not have to reboot their main display to return functionality while driving (driver distraction potential).

Sudden unexpected failure of mcu1-the main control touch screen of the car. Limiting access to key safety features such as back up camera and other vehicle controls. The vehicle had an unusual display behavior and took a prolonged time to wake up, then the center display failed to turn on at all. Manual reset attempts failed.
I was driving on freeway 99 near chowcilla, California in my Tesla Model X with under 7,000 miles on autopilot and there was no cars in any direction near me. This freeway was a straight line with no bends or curves. The car was traveling at 75 mph in the middle lane on autopilot and the car suddenly decelerate very aggressively for no reason. The tires screeched as the car's speed suddenly came to a near standstill at the speed of 10-15 mph. The driver ([xxx]) took manual control and drove the car without any potential fatalities. If there was a car or truck behind us, we would have died. This has happened on two previous occasions, but the deceleration was not as sudden as this life threatening occurrence. Redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Driver distraction issue when I bought the Tesla Model X, basic voice commands were available -- e. G. , to call using a smartphone, linked to the car via bluetooth. The operation, as new, was straightforward, and matched the then-current manual, available in 2018. As is known, Tesla updates its car software, &, in fact, makes it mandatory that the car's sw be updated, or risk voiding the warranty. Normally, the new sw updates improve the operation of the car. However, starting in December 2019, the sw updates, & each Tesla 'owners manual' that corresponds, fell out of sync. The manual would describe functionality, and the actual software, simply did not have the functionality. I've read each of the updated "model x owners manual north America", (January 2020 & October 2020), downloaded from the Tesla website. In each case, the car fails to conform to the operational details explained at, e. G. , the October 2020 (2020. 44) manual, page 53. On that page, Tesla explains, twice, that a way to activate a voice command, is to 1. Press the voice button; 2. State the voice command, e. G. , "call john doe" 3. Press the voice command. Twice, on the same page 53, Tesla wrongly instructs the driver to 'tap the voice button again' or 'press again'. In hundreds attempts to make the Model X to respond to 'bookend' presses of the voice button, it has failed to operate in the manner described in the manual, since December 2019. However, the car does respond to the following sequence of inputs, which the manual also describes: 1. Press the voice button; 2. State the voice command, e. G. , "call john doe" 3. Wait, up to 5 seconds . . . Continued in attachement.

Cannot open doors. Locked out with no way to enter with keys or manually. Car is only four months old and had plenty of charge. Tesla roadside assistance has needed to send someone out to try and fix.
