The large screen in my Tesla occasionally goes completely black and stops functioning. When this happens my rear view/ back up camera goes black, my heating and air condtitioning shuts off, my radio and blue tooth shuts off. I can still drive the car but is very limited. This can last for 5 minutes or up to 15 minutes. I cannot predict when this will happen. Sometimes it happens multiple times during the same days, other times a week will go by without it happening. Tesla contacted me about this and offered a fix: they would under warranty install a new emmc chip and that this would solve the problem. I did this, Tesla had my car for a week and they performed the fix. It did not work and my screen continues to malfunction, it is very unsettling. This can, and has happened multiple times when I driving on the highway, driving through my neighborhood, driving with my kids in the car, and when I first start the car up in the morning. I have attached 2 photos I took when this happened 2 separate times in the last 24 hours. Both times I was driving when it occurred . This is after I have had the repair that was supposed to fix this problem.

On multiple occassions (sometimes while stationary and sometimes while moving), the media control unit (mcu) has become inoperable. If it occurs prior to a trip, this meant the vehicle would not drive for the several minutes it takes to perform a re-boot. When it occurred while driving, it meant that the following systems could not be used and/or adjusted: the rear view camera, the radio volume, the temperature control, the navigation system, and possibly others. I have provided Tesla with time stamps of almost all failure events and taken the vehicle to their service centers 3 different times. Although an aspect of this mcu (the "emmc") is known to be defective and the vehicle is under warranty, Tesla has repeatedly refused to replace the mcu. Instead they have, on the latest service appointment, indicated there are "fpga errors" and there is a "firmware bug" that is causing the problem and that this firmware bug will be addressed with a pending firmware update. In the meantime, they suggest performing a "re-boot" of the system every time it fails. I am worried that this may cause for an unsafe driving situation and hope that the NHTSA will compel Tesla to recall vehicles from this era (from which the mcus are known to be defective).
The central display unit/media unit (mcu) had more and more frequent reboots, freezes, blank screens. When it occurs, my autopilot will stop function, traffic information will not work, radio/speaker will be silent, no turn light signal clicking is audible. The manufacturer refused to fix the problem, giving all types of excuses.

Main central display freezing, unresponsive. Affects radio, rear view camera alert warning sounds. Requires to reboot for it to work. Newer model was equipped with 64gb memory card to solve the issue (currently has 8gb). Has happened in mltiple ocasiones.
May 2020 while my car was still under warranty I continually had issues with the main screen. Issues were reported to Tesla who asserted it was the firmware. Tesla kept my car for over a week for repairs, then charged me $400 for new firmware. However within two months the issues began again, the screen going black and multiple errors. In August I was finally given another service appointment. This time they asserted it was the 12v battery (despite recently having that replaced in 2019). After replacing the 12v battery the problems with the mcu still persisted. It takes about 3wks to 1month to even get a service appointment. Now they are saying the issue is with the mcu which needs to be replaced. I do believe the issue was with the mcu all the time. I do believe Tesla either misdiagnosed or knowingly did not resolve the issue. Now I am being asked to pay $2500 not including tax and labor to replace the entire mcu for problems which were initially reported while the car was under warranty. Further, Tesla is now claiming they no longer have logs of diagnostics on my car when I requested to see the diagnostics that were previously run diagnosing my black screen althout the do agree my car has been continually brought in for a black screen and non-functioning system. Disabled screen functionality causes several other systems of the car not to work: regenerative braking disabled, autopilot disabled, driver and user settings, disabled, ac unit not functioning, stereo/radio capability disabled. Each day a different alarm or not would come on disabling another function while driving. Very dangerous and very unnerving, especially while transporting three young children. I have asked Tesla for diagnostics logs on my car and hoping to receive and submit them as support for this complaint.

Mcu (media control unit) failed on multiple occasions, I was unable to control ac/radio/autopilot system/ or navigation. Also both turn signal were in-operational. Tesla service center refuses to replace the mcu or fix it. Vehicle was in motion, on highway at a speed of about 70 mph.
On Tesla model s and Model X there is an issue with a memory card within mcu1. It was not designed to handle the amount of logging that the linux operating system for the makes. Tesla is aware of this an is offering owners to upgrade to mcu2 for a cost of $2,500. This is not failure due to age. It is a failure due to poor electronic design. When it happens varies on many factors, but will happen typically before 100,000. When the mcu1 fails, the car cannot be operated. Additionally , the mcu2 upgrade removes radio features that were available on mcu1. The reason for this is that Tesla does not want to offer an adapter cable and new tuner unit. Mcu1 came with an analog radio. Mcu2 works with their newer digital radio. All that is needed is to provision the radio in the mcu2 unit via the Tesla toolbox software, install the new radio and install an adapter cable that takes power from the analog radio harness, connects to the new radio for power and ethernet data, and then connects the ethernet from the radio to mcu2. Here are some links to shops that offer repairs for the mcu1 and are fully aware of the issue and some videos that speak to the issue. Https://m. Youtube. Experienced intermittent touchscreen lock up and self reboots resulting in loss of rear view camera, hvac control functionalities, and feedback sound/indicator for turn signals. Entertainment(radio) controls were also locked out.
