1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

Driving down road. . No cars in front of me no objects in road. Clear sunny day when the pre-collision system alarm sounded and the pcs indicator light lite. The abs engaged. And the car came to a complete and sudden halt. Luckily noone was behind me, because if there was, a rear end collision could have occured. This issue did occur to a lessor extent on two prior occasions (about 1 month ago) but the car did not come to a complete halt as it did on 7/6. In both of those instances, there were no cars in front of me and no obstructions in the road. The road(s) were strait. No curves. Took car to Toyota and they refuse to do anything about the issue because they could not duplicate the problem. Im afraid that this will happen again, which could hurt myself, others or cause property damage.

3 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

My laser cruise control became unreliable toward the end of 2013. I had used it on a daily basis for over 5 years and am very familiar with the way it should perform. When tracking a vehicle directly ahead of me on a straight and level road, the laser control should maintain a safe distance and a speed that is essentially identical to the "lead" vehicle. This has not been the case for the past 7 months. My car would often continue to maintain a speed that was faster than the "lead" car,as it was safely slowing down, and come so close that I would have to jam on my breaks. I brought it into the dealer, who insisted that the laser cruise control had been damaged in an accident (therefore my extended warranty would not apply) and I would have to make a claim on my car insurance. My insurance company as well as my repair shop could see no damage that would have caused the malfunction. Eventually my insurance company agreed to pay for the "repair". After the dealer repaired the car with a new laser control sensor the problem has continued, although not as often. I've had it back to the dealer several times and they insist it meets all specifications and is performing to manufacturer's specs, and that there is nothing more they can do for me. Corporate Toyota basically washes their hands of the incident by saying everything related to this matter is at the dealers discretion. Although I have not had an accident yet, this malfunctioning "safety" feature puts me at jeopardy. I fear for my life every time I use it. It would seem to me that others have had similar problems, and may have had significant accidents as a result. I hope you will look into this matter.

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Auto locking system locks doors while doors are open or closed and you are getting out of car or puting grocers in if ur keys are in car it still locks I have been locked out many times it is very fustrighting and dangerous espically when ur daughter borrows your car and gets her9 month old baby locked in at 95 degrees at 11am in florida in the sun in a parking lot. The locksmith could not open the door cause every time he pop the lock the system would relock it self emedeately . This is a real problem . Some times it lockes itself in seconds or mins. It has a mind of its own.

5 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2010 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

My 2010 Toyota Avalon limited sometimes stalls at 20 mph or when turning left, or switching lanes. It is as though it pauses, but doesn't die. It only happens maybe once or twice a week, but the Toyota dealer has not been able to find a problem.

6 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

Vehicle dashboard cracked in several places where air bags deploy. Concerned this is a safety issue as air bag will/will not deploy as intended. Many Toyota Avalon owners have complained on the internet with the same problem. Contacted Toyota corporate and local dealer who advised not a warranty item or subject to recall.

7 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

My 2006 Toyota Avalon has been giving me problems with the floor mats and accelerator getting stuck for over two years and now the accelerator gets stuck on its own. I am afraid to drive it back and forth on the highway and hope that Toyota would replace it with a rental car until it can fix it.

8 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

My 2009 Toyota Avalon has two recalls. Floor mat interference & sticky accelerator pedal. I received a recall letter 4 months ago from Toyota but have never received a follow-up letter for repair. I have contacted Toyota several times by mail but they never responded. Toyota is installing brake override software on new Avalons, however is not available at my dealership for my car. My complaint is Toyota is installing the software on new cars but is not making it available for my car. That is a serious mishandling of safety. Toyota needs to be forced to take care of cars on the road before new production Avalons.

9 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

My 2009 Toyota Avalon has two recalls. Floor mat interference & sticky accelerator pedal. Toyota said I can have a redesigned accelerator pedal installed in April 2010. Its now 2. 5 months later and im still waiting. Toyota has been installing the redesigned pedal on new cars coming off the manufacturing line for several months while not installing them on current customer cars. They keep holding me off. They prefer to saw my current pedal. I watched the dealer do this on a customers car. A hand held hack saw is used to saw the pedal followed by a hand held metal grinder to smooth the cut. I paid $35,000 for a new car, not one hacked. I am filling this complaint for your records. Toyota still is not properly following through with this recall from Nov. 2009.

11 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/06/2009

On Sunday, September 6, 2009, my mother was driving my 2006 Toyota Avalon when she was involved in a crash due to an acceleration problem with the vehicle. She was also involved in a crash in my garage when the floor mat got stuck on the accelerator and cause her to run into the wall of the garage. I also have experienced several instances of acceleration after taking my foot off the gas pedal when attempting to brake which caused me to have to slam on the brakes to stop the vehicle. The insurance company deemed the car a total loss and it was only when I received the settlement papers from the insurance company did I find out there were problems with the airbags as Toyota never sent me any correspondence regarding the problem with the airbags, the floor mats or the accelerator.

12 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 1999 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/16/2008

I entered the freeway and suddenly my car accelerated and I had no control over it. I was scared to death. All I could do was steer. I stayed in the right lane and steered up the exit ramp. I pushed the car into neutral, stayed on the brake, and it coasted to a stop at the top of the ramp, just before it entered the intersection. I put it back into drive, and it took off again. I pushed it back into neutral and steered into an empty parking lot. I put it in drive again and it was fine. I drove around the parking lot. Finally, I decided it was safe to drive home, but not on the freeway. When I took it to a mechanic, he determined that nothing was wrong with the car. By chance, he discovered that the tip of the mat had apparently been resting against the bottom tip of the accelerator. He cut off the tip of the mat. I remembered that this had happened about two years prior, on a busy street, as I drove out of a car wash. I had the car towed home. Another mechanic found nothing wrong with the car. It was probably the mat that first time, too. Both incidents, especially the second one, were extremely frightening. All I could was thank god that there was no collision.

13 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

This is not a complaint but some information regarding the Toyota recall. I got a 2008 Toyota Avalon in October of 2007. When selecting options for my car, I asked for floormats which were clearly shown in the Avalon's promotional material. When the Avalon came (oct 2007) it did not have the requested floor mats. I asked the dealer about this and he simply said they were not available. I pointed out that they were in the Avalon booklet and he again said they were not available. I then did what most probably did, because they wanted to protect their new car, and that was to purchase floormats at an auto supply. My concern is that the automaker clearly knew that there was a problem with floormats at least 2 and a half years ago and did not warn me of this nor anyone else. This resulted in tragic consequences for some. I think they need to be held accountable for withholding this information until after there were deaths related to this problem.
