Good day! I understand there were defective dashboards reported for certain 2010 Toyota Avalons. My 2010 Toyota Avalon was not on the Toyota warranty list to have the dashboard replaced due to the class action lawsuit. Now, I am seeing the dashboard cracking in two spots. Thank you, donna coffin bobinski, cpa 2306 chicory drive charlotte, nc 28213 704-575-0846.

Dashboard has been cracking non stop and it keeps on getting worse and worse the whole passenger side dash. Plus its always parked in a parking garage.
Dashboard cracking in two places. Our 2006 dashboard is cracking in two places, area by drivers door and in the place where the passenger air bag is located. Our 2008 did the same thing and Toyota replaced the whole dsah but our 2006 is too old to be covered. We're concerned that once the crack goes all the way through the compartmnt where the sir bag is that it will bust open hit the passenger in the face.

Dashboard is cracking all over and its not from heat I called Toyota and they said I missed recall by 17 days? never got a notice, mu concern besides cosmetics it is a safety issue as the vinyl over air bag area will become bits of sharp vinyl schrapnel if deployed. They know its a problem and trying to avoid a safety recall by calling it exrended warranty recall.

Dash board is cracking.
Driving from PA to nc. On rt13 in seaford, DE, driving speed limit heard loud bang. Sunroof exploded & cracked from inside. Drove to 1st auto garage, they said we were 2nd Toyota this week with cracked sunroof. They gave us a roll of duct tape, to get us through the monsoon. Toyota corp recommended going to dealer for evaluation as to how this happened. Have to wait 2 days for appointment. My old Avalon has made many long trips without any problem. This new car has definitely not been made well. I am very disappointed.

On the night of 6/20, I was driving down in los angeles westwood area near gayley avenue and wilshire blvd, my car suddenly slowed down then stopped. Then there was a lot of smoke coming out from the hood, then tuned to flame. This happened 2 months after I brought my car to Toyota of glendale for recall services related to wire harness and ignition bracket.

I have called Toyota in houston, TX several times about my melting and cracking dashboard. I was told this was normal wear and tear. My car is garaged, and only out for short amounts of driving time. On December 31, 2014, I saw on the national nbc news that there is a recall for the dashboard problems. I called Toyota this morning, Jan. 2, 2015, and was told they know nothing about a recall. I must have a letter for them to due recall work. I'd like to file this complaint, hoping my car, make and model will be added so that I receive a recall notice. Thank you.
Warranty enhancement notification -ze6 repairs related to cracked dash board. Toyota sent letter in December,2014 indicating parts for the replacement would be available by late spring. I've made two calls and was basically told to wait for another letter but was provided no input regarding a possible date. I have a feeling they hope the problem will disappear. What can I do to get satisfaction?.
Dash just started cracking and melting for no reason. This car is garage kept. It is in perfect shape except fot dashboard which will only get worse. Contacted Toyota and they said they could not help me since their is no recall on tis vehicle.

My car has always been kept in the garage, except for being at work. I have cracks all over the passengers side airbags. I was in the hospital getting a lung transplant when the extended service letter came out offering to replace it. I didn't drive for two years because of illness. When I went to the Toyota dealer he said I missed the deadline by a week. He said he had the parts and would like to do it but would need an ok from Toyota corporate . I called Toyota and they said there is nothing they can do. If there is a class action lawsuit on this I would like to join. . I did nothing to cause this, it is a manufacturer defect and a safety hazard. I f the airbags deploy, it could kill someone.
My 2007 Toyota Avalon dashboard began cracking ~ 2 years ago. My car is low milage and has always been garaged kept. The cracking has gotten progressively worse. There are numerous internet comments about this defect, but Toyota is stonewalling us customers. I would request that you all look into this issue. Melting and cracked dashboards in various Toyota vehicles could cause safety issues. For background info, just search the web. When we called to complain to Toyota about the safety implications and reduction in car value, they acted like we were the 1st people to complain about this issue. Unless you all act, Toyota is just going to blow us off. Please help.
The dashboard on my car is cracked, pealing, sticky, melting. I went to west kendal Toyota and showed them the problem. They contacted the Toyota representative jn miami, florida and was told that they would do nothing about it; that it is my problem. This is a serious manufacturing defect which may be the cause of very serious damage and possible accidents. Their argument is that the car is out of warrantee and so is no longer their responsibility. This is nonsense. They made the car with this inherent defect (which they seem to acknowledge) and are saying they are not responsible for the defect that they are responsible for creating. Needless to say it has been frustrating trying to deal with them. They believe they are so powerful and I am so helpless that they need do nothing to remedy a problem they caused, they recognized, and that they are completely unwilling to correct. With their powerful attorneys they seem to think they can get away with anything they please! is this true?.
The dashboard of my Toyota Avalon started melting over a year ago. The front dashboard panel is all cracked up. The car was purchased new and is kept in the garage. It never been in an incident and has very low mileage on it. It's obviously a manufacturing defect and should be fixed.
Sticky, cracked, and shiny dashboard causes glare on windshield.
Purchase the 2011 Toyota Avalon on June 13, 2010 which on my first service date I complained about the steering column and harsh feeling of the car due to the steering column. Buena park Toyota kept telling me that there was nothing wrong right up to the last service that was done the end of June 2014. On June 30th went to victorville to visit my wifes sister. On July 2 2014 we started back home when the engine light and tracking light came on, fortatley the issue happened before coming down the cajhon pass on highway 15. We where only 2 miles away from the Toyota dealership in victorville and they found that the steering column was faulty and replaced column assy, steering and boldt steering lock. Plus po500 trans speed sensor poss loose connections cleaned and tightened connections at speed sennsor. The dealership stated it showes a defect on the computer showing the steering column has a defect. Why isn't there a recall concerning the above this is very dangerous problem which could take a lot of innocent lifes. Thanks j. Jones.

The dashboard is melting and becoming very sticky. Parts of it have also cracked. When the sun is shining through the window, it impedes visibility.
Dashboard cracked from one side to the other, cracked all up by the instrument board, down by the compartment. Just appeared one day. Car in garaged. Toyota dealer acknowledge it that they are having a problem with quite a few vehicles. Toyota wants me to pay $500 towards replacing the dash. I feel it is a defect, obviously, on their part and should not have to pay to have it replaced. Can it be a safety hazard? maybe if it is cracked around where the dash air bag is.
There was one crack that appeared on the dashboard, on the drivers side. Since then, there is one long deep crack along the top front edge of the dashboard that extends almost the entire length. Additionally, there are 23 more cracks between the driver and passenger side. Because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side we don't feel safe driving with the cracked dashboard. Anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late could be very serious. It is our opinion, that this is a defective part and Toyota should recall the car and issue a technical service bulletin or policy that gives dealerships direction to fix the problem.
Cracks all across dashboard and glovebox. Afraid it might affect air bag deployment.
Dash board and air bag front area n thee front began to crack. Car has never been housed outside a garage and I can see where the material should begin to crack. It has been properly moist and clean. Now it is extending thru the front area even more. I have the same problem with a Toyota 2004 solara it started about the same time. Same housing and care applies here too. The 2004 model had about 50000 when it atarted to crack the material.
Cracks in the dash board that keep getting bigger . Up to one year to replace. Un safe to wait that long.
December 2012: I noticed a small crack at right side of dashboard. By April 2014 at least 10 more cracks appeared on upper, lower, and side surfaces of dashboard. Some cracks extend the entire width of the dashboard and some around the air bag. I am concerned that if there is an air bag deployment; occupants could be injured by dashboard debris.
I was entering interstate highway 80 from an on ramp when there was a loud noise, followed by wind noise and within a short time a snapping type of noise followed by quiet. I stopped an on inspection found that the left-side plastic under-engine cover had fallen off. Within a few days the right side panel started dragging on the road and had to be removed. I had both replaced about a month later. Three days after the replacement while on by way to the airport and passing a semi truck there was a large crack noise and one of the engine under-covers skidded from under the car and went in a ditch. I had that panel replaced about a month later (March 6, 2013). On July 13, 2013 the left under-engine cover started dragging on the road and I had to pull off, fortunately having a tool that I could remove the one remaining fastener to remove the panel. At the same time I noted that several of the fasteners on the right side panel were also missing entirely or loose. These panels are light weight plastic and are not likely to damage any other car that would run into them. However, it they fly out from under the car they may cause the following driver or an on-coming vehicle in the opposite direction to swerve to avoid it and precipitate an accident. Although the original equipment panels and fasteners lasted for about 36,000 miles the fastening system is subject to abuse. For example, the curbs in my city are about the same height as the clearance of the front skirt of the car so the fasteners may be subject to abuse and could be expected to fail due to this sort of unintended abuse. The same sort of thing may happen in wither when chunks of snow or ice may scrape that area. So, I think there is a design issue with them being secure over the life of the car.
The car has always been garaged and cracks in the dashboard are showing everywhere. The are getting more numerous and wide.
This is a second complaint about my Toyota Avalon dashbaord. I sent a complaint to you all in Jan of 2014 on this issue. Here is my original submission: 'my 2007 Toyota Avalon dashboard began cracking several years ago. My car is low mileage and has always been garage kepted. " Toyota has offered to replace the badly cracked dashboard, but that has dragged on for over a year. When we call the dealership to check on the status, they have the same reply each time, "we don't have the dash, and we don't know when we will get it". Unless Toyota can prove to you all that the badly cracked dash is not a safety issue, I maintain that is is. Please investigate this potential safety issue, and hold Toyota's feet to the fire to get the dash board replaced. It has been way too long on getting Toyota to do the right thing.
Dashboard and panel have melted and cracked, creating a glare from the shiny and sticky surface. This is making the vehicle dangerous to drive. This has also created a concern not only for the glare, but for the chemical elements this has dispersed into the vehicle. I called Toyota in '18, but was told vehicle is no longer under warranty. I would not consider this a warranty problem, but a problem that should be addressed with a recall. I have never received any notice regarding this deterioration condition. Vehicle is not safe to drive or ride in. First noticed this in late '12 and this has gotten much, much worse even though is it garaged the majority of the time.
In November 2011 a crack developed on the right side of the dashboard of my 2008 Toyota Avalon. I contacted the dealership regarding the problem. The dealership contacted gulf states Toyota in houston who refused to replace the dashboard under warranty. I then contacted Toyota headquarters in California and they also refused to cover the replacement of the dashboard. Two years later another four cracks have appeared on the dashboard. Once again I approached the local dealership, who then contacted gulf states Toyota, and once again they refused to replace the cracked dashboard under warranty. This car is garaged and when it is parked outside a sun shade is always placed in the windshield. I paid for a platinum Toyota extended warranty covering 72 months or 100,000 miles and Toyota refuses to cover this problem under the warranty. I have seen many complaints of cracked dashboards on 2008 Toyota Avalons on different websites.
Vehicle dashboard cracked in several places where air bags deploy. Concerned this is a safety issue as air bag will/will not deploy as intended. Many Toyota Avalon owners have complained on the internet with the same problem. Contacted Toyota corporate and local dealer who advised not a warranty item or subject to recall.
2011: I noticed the dash felt soft, not sticky exactly, but for lack of a better word, pliable. 2013: while driving on vacation I realized my visibility was tremendously impeded by the incredibly opaque glare in my windshield from the dashboard. It was so bad, I realized I could make out the patterned imprint (designed to resemble leather grain). There is nothing that can be done to reduce this glare as long as the sun is out. It seriously impairs my ability to see clearly, is obviously distracting, and added to my fatigue on the trip. A safety issue if there ever was one causing driver impairment due to eye strain adding to driver fatigue. 2015: I noticed my first crack in the dash on the passenger side near the airbag. Within a month, I found another crack in the center of the dash. This is a garage kept second car, used for long trip comfort and Sunday drives. 2016: called Toyota about progressing cracks in dash. I was told there was a recall but it had ended 2 months earlier. Sorry but there was nothing they could do. 2020: I am waiting for pieces of my dash to fall off. My latest crack follows the instrument cockpit top edge completely across to the driver's door curve. It just split apart. This is my babied and protected car, 2007 Avalon xls with 64,000 original miles on it. My family and I have owned Toyotas since the early 80's; corolla, tercel, celica, camry, rav4, Avalon. Not one of them ever had a dash problem. In looking at complaints here the majority of them are about the dash. Toyota should step up. Who gets to decide that one safety issue is worth a recall but another isn't? the glare is so bad that, more than once, I have been nervous about not being able to see brake lights while on the interstate. Is it fair that the only safe way to operate my Toyota is on a cloudy day or at night? I hope eventually enough complaints like this will help.
Complaint against Toyota comments: sirs, July 29, 2010 - Toyota motor sales, inc. Issued a recall for model year 2000-2004 Toyota Avalons. Toyota stated that customers will be notified ". . . Beginning in late August 2010 to bring their vehicles to their Toyota dealer for replacement of the steering column bracket. . . " as of today, October 6, 2010, notification has not be sent to me. Although I have had the part replaced, the replacement was due only to my diligence and not to the prudence of Toyota. I feel sympathy for those drivers who may have been involved in a needless accident because they were unaware of the danger that could occur due a failure of a part of their automobile. I recommend that NHTSA investigate this situation at Toyota.

Cracks in dashboard started appearing. First small, then extending all the way across the dash. Now multiple cracks in dash, airbag cover, glove box surround. Dash started getting sticky. I spoke to the assistant service manager where I bought the car in October 2006. Since it's out of warranty and there is no service bulletin or recall, they won't help. Estimated $2100 to repair/replace. Said replacement would be original factory material, so I would expect it to be defective as well. He said they see at least 2 cars a week with this problem. Called the manufacturer 800 number. They said due to the expense, out of warranty, no service bulletin or recall, they would not help. Said the only thing I could do was report it, and that the manager reviews all complaints. This was a $35,000 car which now has 68,000 miles and it has lost thousands of dollars in resale value. I've had cars last 20 years without any cracks in the dash, and certainly the tackiness/stickiness is not natural. I worry that it might emit some toxic fumes in the summer.
The dashboard has become very shiny, sticky, and cracked due to high heat and humidity living in the southeast us. When the sun hits the dashboard, it creates a reflection that blocks the view of the driver. That is my concern for safety. I have researched and found millions of other owners are affected by this same issue. Toyota needs to stick by their claim to care about the safety of their customers and remedy this issue.
On this date the car was recalled for a steering column upper bracket replacement. Today March 19th, we took the vehicle to our regular mechanic for front brakes and to check because the key will come out of the ignition when the car is turned off and in drive or reverse rather than park. It was also pointed out to us by our mechanic that the steering wheel no longer locks which has been the case since they did the recall work but we just realized today. He then proceeded to tell us about the recall and we explained we had taken it in for the bracket. So, in short, since Toyota replaced the bracket on this recall, the steering wheel no longer locks and the key will come out in drive when the car is turned off, which should not occur.
