44 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

We own a 2003 Toyota Avalon. We received the safety recall notice regarding the supplemental restraint system (srs) electronic control unit (ecu) for this vehicle in March of 2014. The red airbag light in the dash has been on, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. Since this involves the very safety and well-being of my family, we called the local west covina dealer, at least four (4) times and made at least one (1) drive-in visit, to get this matter resolved. Each time we were told there was no ¿ srs ecu ¿ replacement part available. On our last attempt to reach out to them, we left a message for the service advisor at the west covina Toyota location and was not even given the courtesy of a return phone call. We are thoroughly disappointed and frustrated! since this places our family at great risk of harm and endangers their well-being, out of desperation, we are reaching out to you. It has now been over two (2) years since receipt of the initial safety recall notice. Surely, this is sufficient time to be able to rectify the problem! please feel free to contact via email at either jafeyka@yahoo. Com or jsfeyka@yahoo. Com to discuss this matter. Or, you may reach out to us by phone at 626-917-1523(h) or 626-253-3087(c). It is my hope that your assistance will provide the impetus needed to resolve this matter. Sincerely yours, john and judy feyka.

45 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

Horn sounded squeaky, then inoperative. Airbag light went on. Cruise no longer worked. Toyota diagnosed the spiral cable a/k/a clock needed replacement. Other vehicles, including Toyotas, had recalls on this. It should not have malfunctioned at this age of the car, only 108,000 miles. Should have been a recall, paid by Toyota. It cost me nearly $500 to get it fixed. Maybe the cable was damaged when the steering lock bar was fixed, on a previous recall (years prior). ???.

46 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

Without incident, about 2 months ago, the airbag light came on when car started and continues to blink while car is running. I have approximately 99,000 miles on my 2002 Toyota Avalon. Local mechanic tested with his equipment and found a problem with passenger side airbag. He referred me to dealer to make repairs. Called dealer and was told they would have to re-check at cost of more than $100 and then would charge me for any repairs that were needed, but could not quote price until they performed test. I then read about recalls of 2002 Avalon, but my dealer said that I would have to pay because my make and model had not been recalled. I cannot justify paying $100+ for a re-test and then having to pay any amount dealer charges to repair a 12 year old auto. I do not trust this dealer because of past dealings with their sales and service departments. Please advise me. I transport my elderly aunt on occasion. Is it safe for her to ride in the front passenger seat? thank you.

47 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

I was a mile from home when I noticed that my air bag light had just come on. Next thing I know I hear a sound like a gun shot and the steering wheel airbag deployed - while I was driving. (it was not caused by an impact and I had not hit a pothole. ) the airbag did not hit my face so there was no injury, and I was able to pull over into a turn lane to call roadside assistance.

48 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I own a 2002 Toyota Avalon xl. The srs airbag light on the dashboard is constantly blinking. I took the vehicle to a repair shop that tested it and said that there is a short in the drivers side squib circuit. There was no incident to trigger this. Apparently this is a manufacturing defect and should be fixed via a recall by Toyota.

51 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/03/2013

After sitting in front passenger seat general air bag light came on and light for passenger airbag indicates "off". Reference NHTSA campain number 13v014000: this covers passenger seat sensor adjustment which is probable cause in this complaint. Upon calling southeast Toyota (justin) February 20th, they indicated VIN was not covered? request action to enforce recall for my VIN as it is most likely culprit for lights; and my passengers are at risk for injury due to lack of proper air bag operation.

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

59 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Our Avalon has about 46,000 miles on it and has been doing the following for the last 10,000; passenger-side airbag light/fault indicator intermittently comes on while driving at any speed. This may go for days or weeks without happening, and then happen several times a day. Indicator may come fully on or only dimly on, for seconds or for minutes. It appears that going over a bumpy road will trigger the light going on or off. The vehicle was brought to the watertown MA Toyota dealer for analysis in October 2010 and to the woburn MA Toyota dealer on January 16 2012. The indicator did not come on while at either dealer who said they could not find anything wrong and that we need to bring the vehicle to them when the airbag light is on. This is impossible because neither dealer is close to our home and the light goes on and off so intermittently. The January 2012 visit to the woburn MA Toyota dealer included running a diagnostic test that did not find anything wrong but said it could possibly be that the airbag wiring had gotten wet at one point and this was the result. The dealer advised us to see if the problem is worse when it rains. (it is not. ) both dealers said if the indicator is on then the airbag system is not working properly, which is very concerning to us. A local mechanic also removed the front seat from the car to check the airbag wiring beneath the seat; they did not find any problems. On February 7, 2012, the airbag light went on and we were able to get to the local mechanic with it still on. The mechanic immediately put on the scanning tool and no diagnostic codes showed even though the light was on. He tapped on the airbag panel above the passenger glove compartment and the diagnostic codes starting appearing on his scanner. Based on the scan results, he said that the passenger airbag is faulty and needs to be replaced.

60 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/30/2009

The first thing that happened was that the air bag light on the dash came on. Looked this up in the manual and it said to take the car in to the dealer - which I did. The local Toyota deal said that they ran a check and found nothing wrong with the car. Their explanation was that a led light in the dash was malfunctioning. My horn was not working either - so they wiggled the wires under the hood and said that it would be fine. The horn lasted until I was out of their driveway. This fall I decided to take my car to a local garage to have the brakes replaced. And asked them if they would check on my horn, since it didn't work. They told me it was odd for a horn to go out - but they would replace it if needed. Before they did anything to the horn they called me to let me know that not only did I not have a horn but - I didn't have the driver air bag or cruise control. The problem is that a spring in the steering column is broken. It is called the cable hub assembly. Presently I can not get a clean inspection on my car - because this is a safety hazard issue. Used parts are not safe to use and new parts must be ordered from Toyota - and are costly. The labor for installation is costly as well.

61 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/20/2009

Moving the driver's seat in my 2002 Toyota Avalon causes the air bag light to illuminate. Manually pushing a connector together beneath the seat - difficult as that is to reach - can extinguish the light on the console. I assume that when the light is on that the air bag restraint is inoperable. This situation is caused solely by the action of advancing or reversing the seat to allow for various size drivers. This dangerous action has occurred many times during the past 7 years that I have owned the vehicle.

66 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

My air bag light comes on 1 or 2 times a month, while driving. It stays on for 15-30 seconds. My next problem is that my engine check light came on when I started my car in 11/99. I took it to the shop and it was a faulty fuel injector. This was repaired but I don't feel this should have happen to a new car at such an early age. Also around 16,000 miles they had to replace my rotors. This also should not have happen at this early age.
