36 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/14/2009

In san diego earlier this year, at night, to enter heavy ast moving traffic from on ramp floored gas pedal in 2009 Toyota Camry with new heavy duty floor mats, and had max runaway acceleration. Was able to stop with heavy brake pressure, hitting stop engine button didn't work. Checked everything I could and tried again, same response, called 911 and got tow truck on the way. Finally figured out floor mat had caught gas pedal and was holding it down. Pulled floor mat back into place, and then no problem. Told 911 as I recall to forget the tow truck. Got up to 40- 50 or so mph. Haven't reported this to Toyota yet.

37 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

To whom it may concern: I bought a 2009 Camry le from herb chamber boson in last oct. Recently I heard the recall. However, I don't believe the reason for the recall simply blaming the floor mat. I did experience an unintended acceleration when using cruise. The cruise was set at 70 mph and suddenly the speed went up over 85 mph, and I noticed that the acceleration was at its full strength and showed no sign to stop. I immediately braked my car to automatically shut off the cruise control. At that time, I just blamed the stupid computer program, which may account for the incident. However, when reading other person's stories about the recall, I realized that something more serious than the floor mat was actually responsible for those accidents. To tell the truth, I barely use the cruise since that incident. I just want Toyota to seriously look into this problem. I will keep a copy of this message here in case I need it in the future.

38 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

I was driving a 2007 Camry in san jose, California on January 29, 2009. Involved in a solo accident and I suffered a concussion so I have amnesia about the actual accident. Post-accident photographs from the investigator from Mercury insurance company confirms in two separate photos that carpeted floor mat was wedged up into the brake/accelerator area. I have filed a civil lawsuit against Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. In santa clara county. Toyota has yet to accept responsibility for accident. First case management conference is scheduled for may of this year.

39 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

My wife was pulling into our daughters daycare to drop her off as she does every morning and while pulling into the parking spot and when applying the brake the vehicle surged forward at a high throttle speed jumped the curb and went crashing into the building. Even pumping the brakes didn't stop the car. The only way to get the vehicle to stop going forward was to jam the gear selector into reverse and then the vehicle went backwards at a high rate of speed (brakes still didn't work) and then had to jam the gear selector to park to stop the vehicle. Update as of today. Our vehicle is currently at a Toyota dealership and service center and the service manager said there is no problem with the brakes, and we are scared of the through of driving this vehicle again. It seems to be a electronic issue and connected to the speed control. I have found a message board on the internet where 97 other similar incidents have been reported. And Toyota does a recall on the floor mats? hmm I smell a cover-up and a possible class action lawsuit.

41 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/15/2007

While my 2005 Toyota Camry was in drive, with my foot on the brake, sitting still, waiting for my wife to get in the car, the car revved to max rpms with no change of my foot position. My foot pressing firmly on the brake was not enough to keep the car from accelerating forward. I pumped the brake once at this point and the brake pedal went all the way to the stop. I then jammed the vehicle in park, just before collision. The gas pedal did not move during this incident. I reported it to Toyota and was told that they were sorry that my floor mat had caused a problem??? incident: 090929-000573.

42 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/31/2007

I contacted Toyota after hearing about the incidents involving the floor mats with their Toyota Camry vehicles. I purchased a 2006 Toyota Camry (used) in January of 2007. When I explained to the representative at Toyota that my floor mat on the driver's side moves involuntarily under both the brake and gas pedal, he asked me if I had the mat anchored correctly. I explained that there was no anchor in the carpeting or a hole where there may have been one. I further advised there was no hole in the mat for an anchor. The rep sounded surprised at this and took down my information. The rep told me that I should hear back from Toyota and to remove my mats at this time due to the recent safety issues. I never heard back from Toyota and there has been no update on this site as to whether or not there was a recall for missing mat anchors on the carpets.

43 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/30/2007

Purchased a 2007 Camry le, 4 door, on 12/12/06. Cruise control has failed many times. When going down hill with the cruise on the car will keep accelerating to very unsafe speeds. This started from the date of purchase. I went through arbitration in March of 2007 and was told by the arbitrator "that there has been an unreasonable amount of repair attempts for the same nonconformist that will impair the use, value and safety of the vehicle since Dec. 2006". The problem has not been corrected and I don't use the cruise control. I have found that this problem has caused deaths, the latest in California, and several wrecks even in the area where I live. How many lives must be taken before Toyota will step up to bat and make a recall on this defective cruise control. The floor mats that Toyota is saying will cause this problem might be in part the cause but certainly not the root of the problem. I have been trying to get this situation addressed since the purchase of this vehicle and the near wrecks that I have almost encountered to no avail. The arbitrator did agree with my complaints but as stated above there had not been enough attempts provided by the dealership to correct the problem. How many times must one take a vehicle to the dealership with the same complaint before any action will be taken. I feel my life is more important than the runaround that I have received from Toyota and this is a very serious safety malfunction of the vehicle. I have all sorts of documentation to back my complaint and my 2007 Camry is not the only vehicle on the road with this safety issue. I was told by Toyota that the design had been changed with the 2007's and certainly the symptoms are consistent with control system malfunction but they did not know how to fix the problem.

44 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/20/2007

My 2006 Camry ranaway on rt 290 west when it was a few months old following the replacement of an oxysendor and installation of Toyota floor mats. I could not stop the car as it entered the highway and thus I rearended a semi who never even knew that I hit him. Yet, greater than 2000. 00 of damage happened to my auto. I have paid nearly 3000. 00 in penalties for an accident which I had no control over. From thence, I was told to put my car in neutral when I stopped at lights etc. It tried to runaway at least 20 times sporadically. . I took it to Toyota dealers who told me that nothing was wrong with the car. I tried to file a lemon law. It was 3 yrs of driving in ?!@#$% never knowing what could happen next. I have witnesses.

45 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/31/2003

The driver side floor mat is not fixed to the underlying floor. It slides around. This condition was apparent from the day I bought the car. The Toyota dealership said there was nothing they could do. Before I recently heard this could be an actual danger by interfering with the gas or brake pedals, I just straightened it out when I saw it has moved out of place. Now I removed the mat but this means the floor below is not protected from dirt, etc. It bothers me that Toyota never thought this was an issue. Now I find out that later models were recalled for this problem. They still will not do anything because it's a 2003 and not under a recall order. I wanted to file this complaint so it known that the 2003 Camry (xle) has this problem too.
