Pulling into driveway and stepped on brakes at less than 5 mph and whole car started shaking out of nowhere (similar feeling to when you land on the runway in a plane). Steered sharply to not hit other vehicle and hit a tree. Car was inspected less than 3 days ago.

We ordered this car custom what we wanted 2021 Toyota Camry xse awd. The car is great wife and I love driving it. But at 68,857 miles as of today 4/29/26 it’s on its second set of tires with regular maintenance and rotations on tires it’s eating them up on the inside. We have had 4 alignment checked by Toyota and les schwab and everything time it comes out perfect. Two sets of tires within 30,000 give or take is a very bad problem as both times the inside of been to the cords. The last set was only 26,000 miles and half the tire was separated tread to tire. First set every tire was down to cords on the inside.

The dashboard in my 2008 Toyota Camry le has deteriorated over time and has melted, becoming sticky and glossy. This condition causes sunlight to reflect off the dashboard onto the windshield, creating a strong glare. This glare significantly impairs my visibility while driving, especially in bright daylight conditions. At times, I am unable to clearly see traffic, road conditions, or other vehicles. This creates a dangerous situation and increases the risk of a crash. The issue has progressively worsened over time. There were no warning messages or indicators prior to this condition developing. The problem appears to be caused by the dashboard material degrading under normal use and heat exposure. I reported this issue to Toyota dealers, including fremont Toyota and milpitas Toyota, but no corrective action was taken. The condition remains unresolved. The defective dashboard is available for inspection upon request. This issue represents a safety hazard due to reduced driver visibility.

The radio/audio system has twice stopped working completely during travel--without warning--which is a safety issue since no emergency alerts can be received. The outage cannot be fixed by turning off the radio or any known practical intervention while the vehicle is moving. Audio reading of incoming text messages also fails. Am/fm/siriusxm are all affected. Audio resumes at the next vehicle start-up. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety is compromised since emergency alerts may be missed during these complete audio outages. Due to the randomness of the audio outages, independent confirmation has not been practical to date. No inspection by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others has been requested or yet occurred. Other than the abrupt audio cut-off, no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure have been observed. Thank you.
Driver door actuator is failing. If you search this, it is a well known problem with the year and model of Toyota. It poses significant safety hazards to occupants and security of the vehicle. Yet Toyota has not addressed or corrected the issue. I am not sure if this is electrical or the actuator itself, as the passenger door was doing the same thing, but now appears operational. Driver side still not working properly. With press of button on door handle all doors will lock, with exception of driver side. Sometimes if you lock it manually, you can turn it get back in the car at all, without going to the passenger side and going through that side. While I do understand my car is a 2022, it does not make sense it would occur on both driver and passenger side, the problem appears to be widely known, but Toyota refuses to take in the safety in potential emergency situation of their customers.

The moonroof spontaneously shattered when I was driving on the freeway which sounded like a gunshot. There were no external factors such as debris from other vehicles and the temperature outside was relevantly constant at about 78f. No other cars were close to me or in front of me. For almost the entire 2 years I had my car, nothing has ever damaged the moonroof glass. I do want to note an observation that may or may not be linked to the potential safety defect: I do recall hearing strange pebble-like noises occasionally on the freeway & off the freeway at speeds of ~35-65 mph. It sounds like crumbs falling down the sides/top of the car in a horizontal pattern. I observed this as early as 1 month into ownership. Upon closer inspection after stopping to inspect my vehicle, the glass shows to have shattered/blew up & outward in cube shaped pieces and the pattern of the glass appears spiderweb-like, not originating from an impact point. The fracture pattern of the remaining glass appears to match a smooth edge breakage pattern which indicates stress failure due to a spontaneous glass breakage. The dealer has denied coverage due to the technician 'finding no evidence of structural damage. ' yet, my moonroof shattered upwards and there is not evidence of an impact crater. My car is still under warranty and under 2 years old and currently is only at about 20,500 miles. The dealership quoted me ~ $2500+$185 diagnostic. I will be elevating to Toyota corporate to request a closer inspection. Based on research, I discovered numerous reports of similar spontaneous sunroof failures in Toyota vehicles. The failure presents a high risk for public safety because the glass could fall into the eyes and face of the driver at highway speed. Additionally, drivers could be startled & swerve on the road at high & low speeds, on the freeway/streets. There were no warning signs/alerts. One moment I was driving to work on the quiet road & the next I heard what sounded like a gunshot.

An explosion bursted out on my panoramic glass rooftop while I was driving at normal subdivisional speed at 25 - 30 mpg. The rooftop shattered spontaneously without impact. Took the vehicle to Toyota dealership where bought from. The advisor in service thought it is weird as the edges of the big hole on rooftop are convex. However they decided it shall hit by other objects showed to insurance claim shop, the service man handles numerous similar claims said it is not like hit by flying objects. The shattered glass debris will cause an extreme distraction while driving and may cause other incidents.
We have purchased a used 2025 Toyota Camry from elgin Toyota in illinois on 2/28/2026. On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 11:50 am, my husband, [xxx] , left his place of employment (amazon in [xxx] ). While traveling southbound on the interstate at highway speed, the rear bumper cover suddenly detached from the vehicle and flew off. He safely pulled off the interstate at approximately 12:26 pm and called me in a panic to explain what had happened. I immediately asked if he had struck any road debris or run over anything while driving. He confirmed that he had not. This occurred after the highway xx exit in [xxx] and before any [xxx] exits on the interstate. When [xxx] was still driving, he saw in his rear view mirror a semi-truck had run over the bumper cover, making it unsafe for him to retrieve any remaining pieces from the roadway. I instructed him to return home immediately and park the vehicle safely under our carport. Following this incident, I contacted two separate body shops to obtain repair estimates. Both shops expressed significant concern and stated they had never seen a bumper cover simply detach from a vehicle under normal driving conditions—especially on a recently purchased vehicle that should have been inspected prior to sale. One body shop owner specifically advised that we contact the dealership immediately, as this type of issue should not occur if the vehicle had been properly inspected. Frankly, I am extremely concerned and alarmed by this situation. We had been in possession of the vehicle for less than one week. If this had occurred during heavy traffic or rush hour, the detached bumper could have caused a serious accident or injury to other drivers on the interstate. For documentation purposes, I do have ring camera footage showing the 2024 Toyota Camry leaving our home on the morning of March 6, 2026, at 6:19 am with the bumper cover intact. Additional footage may also be available from xxxin [xxx] showing [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
While driving at normal speed, the vehicle’s engine compartment caught fire without any collision or external impact. I pulled over immediately, and the fire originated from under the hood. The vehicle had approximately 25,000 miles and no prior mechanical issues. This incident occurred without warning and posed a serious safety risk.
I am noticing there is some wiggling and play with the driver’s seat. Every time I hop inside the car, I feel the seat wiggle back a little bit. I notice some movement back and forth when accelerating and braking and it is starting to get very annoying whenever I drive.

The "incident" is not a fault or flaw of my car in any way, but rather is caused by the auto industry's general shift to led/hid headlights. In my opinion, they make driving unsafe for external observers because they are too bright and create a lot of glare, so that keeping my eyes focused and perceptive of features I need to see in the road directly ahead of me is becoming increasingly difficult, and therefore, by definition, more unsafe. Technology must be improved so that headlights can alter spectral output according to background illumination (dimmer means cooler,) and light output should have finer, adaptive directional control so that more light gets to objects in front that need to be illuminated, and less to oncoming drivers whose visual contrast range may be overwhelmed. I'm [xxx] , and I have the beginnings of cataracts. Older, halogen-based headlights don't interfere much with my vision, but modern headlights do, and quite badly so. This has to improve! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Every time I start my vehicle I get an advertisement on the media center saying "experience drive connect". I hit the selection on the left to open android auto and the display flickers to android auto then goes back to the advertisement for drive connect. This happens 2 or 3 times before I can get rid of the advertisement. This is especially bad when I am trying to use maps to find a place, and is clearly safety issue.
I parked the car to load something into the trunk. I admit I did not verify that the car was in park, and I missed fully moving the selector all the way forward and it clicked into reverse. I turned off the car and stepped out, the car started to roll away going forwards. I was able to chase the car, hop in and stop it. No injuries or damage occurred. Cars with electronic parking brakes should apply the parking break if a door is opened, the seatbelt is unbuckled and the brake pedal is released.
Driver seat belt gets stuck sometimes or sometimes does not want to click not often but pretty randomly. The driver window control panel also started to smoke for 5 minutes the smoke started coming out the whole driver panel door and caused excessive heat. Seems that something burnt it was smelling like burnt plastic .

Upon looking to purchase another vehicle I ran the VIN on my 2011 Toyota Camry and noticed when looking at NHTSA it showed an incident that someone reported under my VIN number, so I figured I would try VIN # with 0 (zero) instead and nothing came up. So now I'm wondering what's going on with VIN #? is it possible for 2 Toyotas to have same VIN?.

The transmission in my 2019 Toyota Camry failed prematurely at approximately 99,854 miles and causes the vehicle to fail to engage properly when shifting into drive. The dealership confirmed the transmission requires replacement. Because this defect affects the vehicle’s ability to move safely from a stopped position, it represents a potential safety hazard.

2023 Camry xle hybrid. With a full tank of gas I parked call in basement garage to avoid getting snow on vechile. Then a few days latter garage smells like gas. I can smell gas by the gas door. Has happened several times. Took to dealership they said their are no errors showing up. I feel gas fumes in house is a safety concern. Car is under warranty and they charged for checking. I see on line post where other people have had issues with gas fumes problems.

While driving home from work , on a major highway, multiple warning lights came on my dashboard and my car would not accelarate. I immediately pulled over and shut the car off, turned it back on and the car was again drivable, however all the lights were on. I went directly to my mechanic and dropped the car off, for further inspection. The next day I was informed that the error code came up as slippage and he recommended replacing the transmission. The car only has around 130,000 miles on it. I have read that there are class action suits against Toyota, and my car make and model are in the group. However I can not find an active class action suit to join, as I just want my car fixed and should not have to pay for it, especially if Toyota knew this transmission was faulty.

Panoramic sunroof because I can not afford to inspect my sunroof, I have to resort to driving with a tilted panoramic defective sunroof that will not fully close. I fear for safety while driving, or parking anywhere when having to resort to shopping for groceries, weather hazards, highway hazards, and my own personal safety. I fear it could shatter from the sounds it makes at random times. It has presented to be such a fear and impacting my life with anxiety and fear. There have been no warnings lamps, messages prior or after the failure. This has not been inspected by dealer nor insurance because I can not afford for my premiums to have a higher cost. Dealer cost is too high. Please help!!.
My 2020 Toyota Camry is experiencing a persistent failure with the data communication module (dcm), resulting in **error code ** in the Toyota app: "request could not be completed. Please contact your dealer for assistance. " this error prevents all Toyota remote connect features from functioning, including remote start, lock/unlock, and vehicle status — services I am actively paying a subscription fee for. Toyota has acknowledged this is a known software defect and published technical service bulletin TSB-0089-21 (dcm reset and firmware update – lg), which specifically lists the 2020 Camry as an affected vehicle. Despite this being a documented manufacturer defect, Toyota has not issued a formal special service campaign (ssc) to cover all affected owners regardless of warranty status, leaving out-of-warranty customers responsible for repair costs caused by Toyota's own firmware failure. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and urge Toyota to issue a no-cost special service campaign for all affected 2020–2021 Camry owners experiencing error 42 / dcm failure. This is a safety concern as safety connect (sos/emergency services) is also rendered inoperative when the dcm fails.
The panoramic sun roof is stuck open and will not shut dealer wanted almost 10k to replace.
Melting dash, sticky to touch.
The transmission started slipping in December 2025. It is been in the repair shop since approximately December 22, 2025. The shop can’t find replacement parts or a used transmission. The list for a new transmission is over a 1,000 nationwide.
While driving the vehicle in high winds, wind and air can be heard entering the cabin near the front of the drivers side door. Multiple heavy gusts of wind caused the car to move into the other lane and had a negative effect on steering the vehicle. Toyota denies there is something wrong with the door seals or design of the vehicle, but this is a safety hazard when driving in high sustained winds of 15mph or more.
@45,679 miles, the (plastic) driver door handle popped of the car when lifted without thumb just enough to begin to open the door. This was during the beginning of a big snowstorm. Luckily I was not idling the engine while cleaning the windshields or I could have been locked out of the car with the engine running. Now I must drive with 2 keys. The original owner of the vehicle, my mother was xxx when she bought it on 10/31/1999 for $23, 470 with 8 miles on the odometer; salespeople never mentioned the door handles were plastic. The failure was complete fracture all at once, not progressive; I suspect the plastic strain hardened from repetitive stress, making this a design defect rather than material quality. The driver's door latch is a safety issue; now I must struggle to enter the car, and you never know where you might be when you need quick entry, like in a rain. Paid cash w/ trade in for car. Door handle not yet repaired, but claim filed with Toyota customer experience center (ref. # xxx). Request Toyota replace or repair door handle at their expense, preferably with aluminum handle on driver door lest problem recur. Also the car needs an oe solar panel to keep the battery charged for low mileage use. I replaced previous battery with new 7 yr warranty one on 1/22/25 and despite idling to recharge for 1 hr at a time, the battery now remains recurrently low. The vehicle was not sold for a given yearly mileage use, and my mom, now deceased, bought it for reliable safety during retirement & old age as my father died; the vehicle now belongs to our family trust, of which I am trustee. I request Toyota pay for a solar panel to be installed above rear window deck, on rubber tubed bolts spaced above the speakers, to keep battery recharged. Battery charge is obviously a safety issue, and idling is a pollutive, unforeseen expense. Both these issues should likely be recall issues because of the vehicle purchase price involved, as design negligence.

I drove my son’s 2009 Toyota Camry recently and encountered a serious safety concern. When driving into direct sunlight, visibility was significantly impaired due to intense glare reflecting off the dashboard and onto the windshield. The reflection made it difficult to clearly see the road ahead. This is not a cleaning or maintenance issue. The dashboard surface is no longer matte as designed. It has become glossy and reflective due to the well-documented Toyota “melting” or “sticky” dashboard defect that affected many 2009-era Toyota and Lexus vehicles. As the dashboard material degrades, it creates a reflective surface that directly contributes to dangerous glare while driving. This condition presents a genuine safety risk, particularly during sunrise and sunset, when glare is already a known driving hazard. Unfortunately, I understand that Toyota’s warranty enhancement program for this issue has expired, despite the defect continuing to pose a safety concern. I wanted to formally document this issue as a visibility and safety hazard and request guidance on whether Toyota will address this condition given its direct impact on safe vehicle operation.
The vehicle illuminated the malfunction indicator lamp (mil) and stored dtc p26cb71 – electric water pump speed stuck. The dealer confirmed the electric coolant pump actuator is mechanically stuck and requires replacement at a quoted cost of $1,257. 81. Toyota official TSB-0323-17 (published December 8, 2017) explicitly states that this exact repair for dtc p26cb71 is covered under the Toyota federal emission warranty for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date. Despite the vehicle being well within both time and mileage limits, the dealer and epa both refuse to honor Toyota’s own published 8-year federal emissions warranty, violating 40 cfr §85. 2107(a) which mandates that the manufacturer “shall repair or replace” any covered failed emission-related part at no cost to the owner. The failed electric water pump is an emission-related component because its malfunction triggers an obd-ii emissions dtc and can cause elevated emissions due to improper engine temperature control. The part remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. No warning symptoms appeared prior to the mil illumination.
2021 Toyota Camry transmission failure. On November 28th, 2025, my car started doing a hard shudder. I pulled over, then turned my car off. When I started my car back up, it would only drive in reverse but not forward. I had my car towed to a Toyota dealership and explained to the man at the front desk what happened. The guy went to talk to the mechanic then came back and told me that the mechanic said that there is no need to do a diagnostic test and that I just need to get another transmission. Toyota never bothered to look at my car but gave me a quote for almost $8,000, then preceeded to tell me that they may not even be able to get the transmission at all. Now, I have a car that I'm still paying for and can't drive.
