As I am checking my credit report I decided to look at the vehicle report an I see recalls that I never new anything about, two recalls. I recall recently having issues with said recall, control arms, one of said recall in question, now I hadn't purchased this vehicle long after the recall, as I stated did not get a letter nor did the dealership say anything, as I have gotten regular oil changes with the recall time frame, my car was hit on the street while parked in 2017, but I was told the controls arms problem was not a result of that, I had taken my vehicle to several Toyota dealers an they said they couldn't see t find anything, an eventually one dealer fix it, under my warranty. But it seem to still be a problem with the upper lower control because the car is is swaying from time to time especially with this powerful winds, today my car swayed into the other lane as I was on the freeway I had to get off immediately.

Last June (2017) I was driving and next thing I knew I was hitting the side walk and then was unable to drive the car. Had it towed to a local garage and they had to replace the control arm w/ball joint - lower front suspension and also had to get a new tire. Saw on a website this item was recalled under NHTSA campaign # 14v732000. I.
Rear adjuster control arms both rusted/seized and can not adjust alignment. Alignment out and destroys tires in 5k miles, had to buy 4 new tires again.
Driving down a hill after leaving home, when the brakes were applied, the vehicle swerved back and forth violently almost changing lanes. Afterward, it wobbled side to side and up rocked up and down as I limped it home at very low speed. The lower right rear control arm, the one that can be adjusted, was extended causing the right rear wheel to be cocked inwardly at the leading side of the wheel and tire. A week or so later, the car was towed to les schwab tire center, 10340 sw canyon rd, beaverton, or 97005, (503) 643-9446. They reported the long threaded adjusting sleeve had its threads stripped and the part failed. This shop had last inspected the car in August of 2016 during a tire rotation. They performed a 4 wheel alignment in conjunction with the purchase of a set of tires in about prior to that. I have photos of the condition as I discovered it on my phone. I can e-mail or text them separately. At present, I do not know how to download them into my computer to include them with this report. I have instructed les schwab to keep the part for me. They will repair and align the car today or tomorrow. I will take the part to beaverton Toyota for inspection when the work is complete. There was no incident, accident, abnormal curb contact, etc. With the car. The car's mileage is 177+k. After I determined the car needed repair, I kept it at home until I could inspect it and determine the problem. I had the car towed to les schwab today.

My 2006 Toyota Camry, bought brand new, had only 14,606 miles and driven 5 years and 11 months, when I brought it to the dealer for a new battery. Dealer hoisted it and the mechanic told me that the rubber control arm bushings (lower suspension) were tearing and therefore, both left and right side control arms needed replacement. . Cost: $988. 38 less 10% discount. The rubber bushing flexes up and gown when the control arm moves and is subject to age deterioration and damage from road debris like salt, snow, etc. The bushing is only partially shielded by the car frame. If the bushing tears more, the control arm could fall and the car would lose steering ability - a very seriious safety issue. I saw the same complaint for another 2006 Camry and 1996 Camry on the NHTSA web site. I wrote a letter to toyoya asking if the rubber bushing on the new repacement control arms I purchased is the same poor quality as the originals. Also, are the new 2012 Camrys equipped with same shlock control arm bushings?
I received a letter from Toyota in torrance, CA dated 12/12/11 saying they "reviewed and documented" my letter. When I called, the Toyota quality assurance center, the lady said she has to first review my complaint letter. After 5 minutes she said she did not know the answer to my questions about the control arm. Do not buy any Toyota car without first personally inspecting the condition of both control arm bushings together with the mechanic holding a flashlight and mirror, at every oil change. Make the same inspection before the 36,000/3 year warranty or 1 year warranty on replacements, expire!
any incipient tear is reason for replacement at Toyota's cost. A tiny tear shows a latent defect because fracture mechanics says the tear or degradation of the rubber bushings will propagate.

2000 Toyota Camry developed a problem with the left rear control arm. The consumer first complained of a noise coming from the vehicle during the warranty period. When the consumer picked the vehicle up from the dealer the noise had persisted. After being told there was nothing wrong with the suspension the consumer continued to drive the vehicle until 3 years later the vehicle failed the safety inspection and that is when the left rear control arm was replaced, after the replacement the noise disappeared.
