The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. While performing routine maintenance on the mechanic, the dealer discovered oil leaking from all four struts. The struts were replaced. Approximately 20,000 miles later, the front strut failed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000.

2010 Camry - bought new. Taken to the dealership for all scheduled oil changes & service. Replaced new michelin tires (rated 60,000 miles) at 32,000 miles that wore out unevenly. We noted that our vans which have more roll than a car and are more heavily loaded, usually go at least 55,000 and that they wear more evenly. Since the dealership was checking everything, it did not occur to us that there was a problem with the struts since the car was so new and the service department never alerted us. Suddenly, at 50,000 mile check up, we were informed all 4 struts are at #2 and must be replaced. This is a lightly driven car. ( 2 drivers and 3 vehicles. ) these are mainly highway miles in southern California and we never had this problem with any other vehicles. We never load it and rarely have more than 1 person in the car. We have never even needed a brake job and have 70% left on our brake pads. After looking on line I noticed that this is a problem with many Camrys after 2007. I contacted Toyota about this and after much discussion, they offered $750 discount if we have it serviced at a Toyota dealership. . Dealership estimates range around $1800 +. I contend that since Toyota does not recommend anything be done with leaking struts until they are totally shot, they did not tell us that anything was wrong while it was still under warranty. Tires prematurely wearing and why would all 4 struts suddenly fail if these were not defective? why would Toyota say struts that leak at all are normal? since this is a known issue, Toyota needs to stand behind their products. This is not standard maintenance - it is a defect. Since Toyota is arbitrarily deciding, we would appreciate a consumer advocate to assist us. We are fine with normal maintenance costs and if it were older or with more milage, we would not be so upset about this major part failure.

My car has only 42453 miles on it. I took it in to have the brakes inspected due to rough braking and found out that all of the struts are leaking badly. I understand that this is a known problem for the 2007 and newer models of the Camry and I am also aware that Toyota knows about the problem. I have had my car in for oil changes and inspection at several Toyota dealerships and not once have they mentioned the leaking struts. When taken to an independent brake shop they stated that it is evident that the leaking has gone on for quite some time. Please do a recall before severe damage is done and make Toyota pay for their shoddy struts and rotors! I should have to pay over $1500 for a mistake that they made! everyone I have spoken to and investigated online with say that this is happening all over and Toyota is getting away with it. Please recall!!!!.
Vehicle struts, all 4 are leaking. Dealer would only replace 1 strut and stated leaking struts are normal. Evidence of pending strut failure is the rapid deteriation of the tires on all 4 wheels. Independent garage confirmed struts are leaking and should have been replaced. Appears to be a common Camry problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Toyota solara. The contact stated while driving 30 mph over a bump in the road the wheel will hit the wheel well. The contact took the vehicle to vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic test. The dealer stated the front end struts failed and needed to be replaced. The contact did not replace the struts. The failure mileage was 30,124. Jo.
After routine oil change on 2009 Camry, I was informed by a certified mechanic that 3 of 4 struts were leaking and must be replaced. The car is due for pennsylvania state safety inspection in August 2012 and I was informed it would not pass. I called Toyota care customer service to file a complaint. I was told the car was out of warranty and there is nothing they could do. He said there were no warranty extensions or federal recalls. The mechanic stated strut failure at 35,000 miles is unacceptable.

All four wheel struts have failed on my 2010 Toyota Camry at 33,000 miles. The car was never involved in an accident. There was no hard driving or abuse abuse of vehicle.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle felt abnormal while driving 40 mph over a bumpy road surface. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that all four struts failed. The struts were leaking and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 22,385.
2007 Toyota Camry, took in for service and was told that the front struts were badly cracked, the car has 44000 miles. Was told that it was my fault that they were cracked, must be hitting potholes or driving over speed bumps too fast. Was told if I didn't have them replaced it would ruin my tires & breaks. Had them replaced but did some checking on-line and there are many complaints regarding this same issue-for some it was replacing the struts at 30000 miles. This doesn't seem right to me. Now the dealer, after I've presented this information has reimbursed me for the parts and then I was even offered a great deal on a brand new car. This seems very strange. Does Toyota know something about struts and not owing up to it? struts shouldn't go at 30,000 or 44,000 miles.

My left rear strut "cap" failed on 05 Toyota Camry while driving at highway speed at only 3900 miles on odometer. Dealer repaired under warranty. Now right rear strut is failing with only 45,000 miles but dealer will not fix. Have contacted Toyota hq but no avail. Seems to be a very unsafe condition at any speed.

My engine seized and needs complete replacement due to this oil sludge problem. As a result of the gelled oil, one of the pistons broke off creating a hole in the engine and the motor mount became displaced from the engine, causing the engine block to crack while I was driving the car. I bought the car used from greer Toyota in millbrook, NY in August of 2001 and was told that one of their mechanics would complete a thorough inspection before the car was turned over to me. I have since had the oil changed every 3,000 miles by a trusted mechanic. During that time, I had to replace the oxygen sensor at my own cost, but did not have any other problems until this month. Now in addition to the engine, it appears that my struts are failing as well. I am in the process of submitting a claim for the engine.

Front strut failure on xle v6 Camry. Noise began around 32,000 miles. Strut plates replaced at owner expense at 42,000 miles and all four struts then replaced again at owner expense at 59,000 miles. Manufacturer contacted and refused assistance "in this case. " indication from other reports on net and manufacturers' knowledge of problem that this was, indeed, a common problem with that model year and style of Camry.

Front and rear struts failed, dealer knows this is an issue. Car is unstable on any uneven road over 25 mph, all but bottoms out, steering correction is needed on the smallest of bumps above 25mph.
Recurrnet noise from front end since day one, especially going over rough pavement. Dealers serviced once for free, but noise continued. Now that warranty has expired, I am advised that the strut mounts have failed and ned to be replced. Replaced both front strut mounts at cost of $416. 58. Service adviser admits Toyota has had a problem with this but will not do anything about it. I believe this a potential safety problem that the manufacturer should repair for all owners of Camrys.

Dealer acknowledges high number of strut and mount failures on 1997, 1998 and 1999 Camrys. Probably design defect.
When driving at slow speed there is a groaning noise coming from the suspension due to strut rod failure. Owner told there was a suspension problem and that Toyota is looking for a fix.
Noisy suspension front & rear. Roadway bumps cause the front suspension system to make a banging and bumping noise. The front struts had replacement mounts installed but did not eliminate the banging and bumping noise from the front struts. The rear struts bottom out with minor bumps in a roadway. The case is in arbitration with Toyota and Toyota is again to replace the front strut mounts with a newer 2nd generation replacement strut mount. Toyota is going to replace both rear struts with replacment struts. At this time the work has not been conducted so I do not know whether the 2nd generation strut mounts and replacement struts for the rear will elinimate the suspension noise. I've told Toyota I believe the strut system is badly designed and that the entire suspension system is weak. If Toyota's additional actions don't stop the bumping noise, the case goes back to arbitration with Toyota.
Struts failed. Yh.
