At 50000 miles there was a plastic crunching sound in the steering column. The air bag light went on. Over the next couple of weeks there was more crunching and lost the cruise control followed by the horn and radio controls. The phone function was the last to go on the steering wheel. It was diagnosed as the clock spring and because my car was not in the recall for the exact same thing as other Toyota vehicles I was told they would not fix it. This is a safety issue and my airbag and horn do not work due to a faulty part that Toyota is well aware of. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving various speeds when he would make a right and left turn that the horn would beep independently, along with that the air bag warning light illuminated independently. The contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer (westchester Toyota sales, 2167 central park Ave, yonkers, NY, 10710) where it was diagnosed that the bracket within the steering wheel failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the steering wheel and air bag was properly intacted. The contact inquired on how did the failure occur and was informed per the dealer that it was due to wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired due to the contact felt that he was not at fault, that the vehicle was not in a accident and the manufacturer stated that they would not assist. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty, and that there was no recall. The manufacturer did not offer any additional assistance and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000. Jb.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. While driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator inadvertently illuminated and the horn inadvertently failed to function. In addition, when attempting to park and turning the steering wheel to the left, the vehicle veered to the right. Both rear tires made a loud noise, the engine shook violently without warning, and the water hose detached and caused water to leak out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the shocks were replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

I adjusted the steering column while at a stop light. When I locked everything in place, the airbag light lit up. All of the controls on the steering wheel do not work. I can't use the horn; turn the radio on or make hands free calls. I took it to Toyota and they said it was the wiring harness for the airbag and it was an expensive repair. I've left it alone for 5 years. I figure with the takata air bag issue I might be better off.
Warning: hood open when vehicle is parked and factory theft deterrent security system is engaged, intermittently alarm goes off (even when remote control is not within range and no unauthorized entry is attempted). Similar to t-sb-0171-11 and t-sb-0208-10 vehicle equipped with a factory theft deterrent system may exhibit a condition where the security horn is inappropriately triggered when the vehicle has not been disturbed. A revised hood latch assembly (with internal component switch) has been made available to address this condition.

Parked car in driveway two hours later my neighbor told me my lights were on. Light switch was off could not get lights to go off. Called tow truck they could not get lights to turn off, so they pulled the fuses for the lights. Three hours later the horn started blowing,,had to disconnect to get it to stop. Took into Toyota dealer where I bought it, a year ago. They said they thought it was a after market alarm system that was installed previously to my ownership. They disconnected it, three weeks later same thing started happening, except this time the high beam headlights would not turn off. Take it back to Toyota and now they say it is an internal electrical problem that may cause other problems if not fixed. Around $825.
The clockspring in the steering column has gone bad causing my driver side airbag to not be operable and my horn not operable, neither is my cruise, but the first two are my main concern.

I own a 2006 Toyota Camry le. The problem with my vehicle occurs on mornings when the temperature falls just below 50 degrees f. When the needs arises to use the horn the sound it makes is as if the horn is sticking and can not sound t6he proper tone and volume of the horn. Once the horn is used and this occurs the horn works properly until the next morning the temperature falls below 50 degrees f. I have recorded this occurrence on a voice recorder but the dealer does not want to accept it as proof. No repair work has been accomplished as the dealer states they must replicate the issue before they will fix the problem. The service manager stated to me that it is tootsie policy that if warranty work is performed and the part is deemed not defective by Toyota, the dealership must accept responsibility for the cost of the repair and parts. This is a safety issue as the horn is not functioning at proper db levels that it was manufactured for. This could lead to a serious accident if the horn decides not to function properly when needed in an emergency situation.
