Toyota Corolla owners have reported 24 problems related to brake disc pads (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Toyota Corolla based on all problems reported for the Corolla.
The break stopped working. I had almost gotten into a car accident. Fortunately, I hit a close donation metal container and was able to stop the car. I have my car checked out by a mechanic and the issue is not related to break pads and/or rotor. It is a due to a manufacturing related issue; hydraulic:power assist:vacuum. I have stopped driving the vehicle and I would like to get it towed for a recall service to darcars Toyota dealer in silver spring MD where I bought the car. This model and year is under recall for breaks but not in the state of MD or DC. You can reach me at (240) 460-2960 or akirubel@gmail. Com.

When purchasing the car and leaving the car lot I heard a grinding/rubbing noise which sounds just like brake pads being worn as well as rotors. I contacted the car lot and they assured me it was from rust where it had sit. They had me take it to Toyota of kingsport and they evaluated stating it was rust. I still hear the rubbing or loudness after they replaced the rotors. Please recall.

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle accelerated rapidly on its own. The brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed into a wall and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained bruises to the arms and right knee, which did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (adriel Toyota, carr 693 km 1. 0, cruce DE la virjencita, dorado, pr 00646, 1 787-626-3838) where it was diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Took my car in for a check engine light, slipping of the transmission. I was called and told that the transmission is fine and that the new sv transmissions handle differently from the older transmissions, I shouldn't be worried. Then I was told that I need to replace the front and rear brakes as they are bad. I was told by the service advisor that I ruined the brakes by driving the car hard. This is the first time in my thirty four years of driving that I have been told that I ruin brakes. When I purchased the vehicle it had 14599 miles. When I brought the vehicle in for check engine light the mileage on the vehicle it had 24397. Less than 10,000 miles had been driven on this vehicle and I am being told that I have to spend 600 dollars on a brake job. I have owned many cars, different makes and models and I have never ever had to replace brakes, rotors, pads, drums, shoes so soon. I believe that this vehicle has defective rotors, drums and should be replaced at manufacturers/dealers cost. I own a 2011 kia sportage and drove that for close to 60,000 miles before having to do brakes. The brakes have a pulsating, vibrating when braking on highway speeds and on city roads. This is a safety concern as well. Brakes on a vehicle with such low miles should not have to be replaced so soon.

Brakes overheat after driving for several hours and after they heat car needs more distance to be able to stop and was almost in an accident (brake pads get deformed from heat).

I bought this car used with 18,000 miles on it in July of 2010. And I have all service done at a Toyota dealer. At 25,975 miles, replaced the front brakes, machined rotors, brake fluid flush, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes(1/28/12). (brake pedal felt soft). At 37,966 miles , replaced the front brakes again(12/21/12). Pads lasted 11,991 miles! at 55,662 miles, replaced the front brakes, machined rotors again(2/20/2014). Pads lasted 17,696 miles! since I do mainly highway driving, I feel that there is a defect associated with the front brake abnormal wear. Also, at 50,548 replaced #2 steering shaft assembly. At, 50,691 replaced alternator. At 55,662 replaced water pump, coolant and drive belt.
At approxamately 0600 on the above date I experienced a violent and near uncontrolable momentary disrupture of the abs/esc systems of my 2010 Toyota Corolla. Vehicle shook violently, steering locked and abs and esc control lights on dash lit up while I was making the trasition from ih37 south to ih35 south in san antonio, TX. I was able to regain control by letting off of the brakes and throttle thus coasting through the left hand turn and bearly missing the retaining wall. This is not the first time this has happened, the first was only days after purchase of car. Local dealer maintenance personnel stated "we can't find anything wrong with the car. " during the warrenty period the problem has been brought to the attention of mccollums Toyota five other times all with the same "we can't find anything wrong" reply. Conplaints of soft brake pedal brought a simular "that's normal" retort each time the vehicle was in for service. After the warrenty expired, front rotors and pads were replaced because they were found to have worn/groved approxamately 1/8" deep per side (not reported by dealer), not from metal to metal contact but just wear from pads friction material. Pads still had 1/2" of fricion material on each. Replacement of rotors and pads from auto zone made things better until now. Request abs/esc software be checked on all 2008 to 2012 Corolla/sion tc models along with check of materials used in pads and the rotors. Oem rotors taken off car will be available until 15 Jan 2012. 36,000 miles on a set of rotors and pads are a little extreme when I have over 125,000 on my gm's rotors and 165,000 on my Ford's rotors with pads needing replacement around 45 to 55 k.
I bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla ce brand new from the dealer. Only a few months after, I started hearing a very loud clunking sound in the brakes when I backup and brake and then when I pull forward and brake. It is an alarming sound so I took it to the dealer it was purchased from at least three times since and they say it’s the brake pads sliding when I brake. They say the only thing they can do for me is grease them, which they have done each time but it keeps returning. I called another Toyota dealer to inquire about it and they told me the same thing. I recently started searching to see if I am the only one that complains of this problem and apparently I am not!! shouldn’t Toyota have some kind of a fix for this by now? please help I cannot even sell the car because everyone thinks there is something wrong with it.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla sport has been having brake issues since I bought the vehicle about 3 months ago brand new with only 6 miles on it. It started with brake noises. Both me and my girlfriend heard them. We are not deaf. I took my Toyota in for service on the problem twice and both times they said nothing was wrong with my vehicle. The past week I've noticed the breaking has been really difficult and you have to push down hard to stop the vehicle. So today; my third brake complaint they told me I need new rotors and that the pads are worn down the metal on metal and that the rotors were "glazed" over from the extreme heat. New rotors and third set of brake pads at 11,000 miles? never heard of it! somethings wrong and Toyota will not admit it.
I own a 2005 Toyota Corolla. While it is 5 years old it only has 10,530 miles on it and less when the first event occurred. Last fall after idling for a few minutes I backed out of a driveway and the car began to speed up. I immediately slammed on the brakes. I couldn't figure out what happened and assumed it was somehow my fault. I had a friend with me who witnessed the whole incident. Then it happened again in my parking garage. Slow speed again but moving forward. I had heard about the floor pads and mine was loose so I removed it. Then it happened again, in January--the day the jets lost the championship(it was before the game and no alcohol) again I was maneuvering in my sister's drive way and almost ended up in her den.

2009 Toyota Corolla s brakes were failing to stop sound as if brakes were metal to metal. Loud grinding nose and uneven contact with brake disc. Two accidents were barely avoided because vehicle inability to stop in a reasonable distance. Excessive pressure was put on to the pedal to finally bring vehicle to a stop. Car was taken to the dealership and a determination was made that the vehicle had over 60%of pad wear left. We immediately took it to an outside mechanic which determined that the rotor had become uneven warped and cupped in several places and the pads deteriorating and were defective. We had both replaced at an expense of over 500. 00.
On this date (Nov. 19, 2009) my mother and I were on the way to work on interstate 45, it was a clear day no weather issues at all. After about 20 min into our commute we came up on an accident in the road, where a car up ahead had spent out of control, as I applied my foot to the brake the car continued to accelerate and instead of the car coming to a stop we collided with the car in front of me. Now when I say the car kept going it did instead of hitting the SUV once we hit him twice as if my foot wasn't to the floorboard. The entire front of my car was destroyed, the SUV in front had a small dent, but thanks to the lord no one was hurt except for a large bruise on my mother and lots of hurt feelings for me. The police were called to the scene and it was when they showed up I realized that the impact was so bad that it jarred our doors shut. After the officers investigation my mother and I were let go without a ticket being that the wreck was caused by another persons fault (the spinning car up ahead). What was the most difficult for me to understand was the fact that we hit the SUV in front of me twice. It wasn't like my car wasn't in good shape, a 2007 Corolla with 55,000 miles, that had just got 2 new front tires and new brake pads all the way around. Now I am dealing with a $8000. 00 repair bill that I haven't been able to pay yet.

This letter was dated and sent june132009 steering, brakes and/or suspension of my 2009 Toyota Corolla le, 4 door sedan. With a mileage of 11,682 to date. Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. , this letter is in regards to the recent road handling of my Toyota Corolla (listed herein). I purchased this vehicle to replace my 1995 Toyota avalon as a vehicle to drive to and from work. I drive quite a distance to work having put on 8000 miles on this car in only 3 â½ months of ownership. Our family car is a 2007 matrix xr. We are obviously fans of Toyota vehicles. This past week the bishop Ford highway, which is part of my route to work in chicago, was scraped prior to a resurfacing of the road. This left a stretch of road which was very rough and with deep wavy grooves cut into the pavement. When my car crossed into the scraped section of pavement my car lurched about a foot to the right (without the steering wheel moving). This alarmed me as it could have caused an accident but the steering recovered under normal conditions but I realized something was wrong or loose in the front end. My warranty was coming due (12,000 bumper to bumper) and the car does handle well for the most part and I need the car for work so I figured I would wait a few days until the weekend to have it fixed along with the brakes which are starting to feel spongy. New pads are probably needed on the front end. I will have them checked independently this week and pay the out of pocket expense (even though this should have been covered under the warranty, even if the brake pads are close to being in need of replacement at this point). Our service department at Toyota on 30 in merrillville indiana did not find any problem with the brakes and the road handling could not be duplicated by their mechanics. I am a very experienced driver at age 45 with not even a parking ticket to my name. If there is a serious flaw. . .
I own a 2008 Toyota Corolla ce. When I drive and then stop and or go in reverse my car makes a weird noise. I took it to the dealer it was purchased from three times and they say it's the brake pads sliding when you use the brake. They say they don't know how to repair it. They say if they replace the brakes the noise will return once I use the brakes. They say when the brakes are used the brake pad slides forward or reverse depending on direction of travel. I call another Toyota dealer in my area and they told me the same thing.
Steering issue - occurs frequently - feeling of less control in turns and at highway speeds. Brakes - occasional - sudden increase in brake power when braking lightly at highway speeds. Does not continue after releasing brake pedal but is very noticeable. Have had the brakes (drums, pads) repaired / replaced twice (once at a Toyota dealership) using Toyota parts and the issue persists.
I bought a brand new Toyota Corolla 2003 model in Nov 2002. Around a year and a half ago, it started producing an unusual sound whenever I hit the brakes. It has since progressed from a barely audible (except to the driver) "knocking" sound to,at some point, a very nerve-wracking "the car is going to break apart" kind of sound whenever the brakes were applied. I called the dealer to check if it was a common complaint and they said they never heard of a similar case. I also asked a former Toyota mechanic, now running his own private shop, to look at the problem; his only answer was that it was a common complaint for Corollas from 2003, since they re-designed the car that year. Even his own assistant mechanic had a later Toyota Corolla with the exact same issue, and they have given up trying to fix the problem. I have had several mechanics assess the sound, open up the brakes, recommend and changed pads, even rotors. The sound disappears when the brakes have been newly "opened" and taken down for cleaning, but after a week or so, the sounds return, although the mechanics have repeatedly told me that the car brakes work well and are safe. But don't the sounds indicate a problem in the brake system maybe? I only write now because of a news item this morning that said Toyota plans to recall Corollas for a brake-related problem.

2006 Toyota Corolla makes a pulsating screeching noise when brakes are applied over a bump, uneven surface, puddle of water or patch of ice even if only one to two tires are on said surface. Even when car was new, brakes would screech occasionally as if pads needed replacing. I was told by dealer that it is normal for that car. Based on that information, I did not have brakes checked again for quite some time when they were making a scrubbing sound. By then rotors needed to be replaced. Two months later, screeching started again accompanied by scrubbing noise.

: the contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed the front end made a grinding noise. This occurred at various speeds. The dealership replaced the brake pads five times, but the problem recurred. The dealership was unable to determine athe cause of the problem. Updated 06/05/2006.

The contact has a 2005 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes made a loud squeaking noise whenever they were engaged. The brakes pads had to be replaced every 10 months. The tires also have to be replaced every 2 years even though the contact has had several alignments. The first time the tires and brakes were replaced, the mileage was 12000. The failure mileage was 6. The current mileage was 42999.
Front braking system. Had to replace front brake pads at 25600 and 42200 miles. Rear pads do not seem to be wearing at all, indicating proportion valve problem or poor design. Toyota dealer just shrugs shoulders.

Front brake pads replaced.
Very excessive front brake pad wear. I have replaced the front brake pads 5 times in 16000 miles. I have replaced the proportioning valve which did not solve the problem. I have also replaced and adjusted the rear brake shoes which did not solve the problem.
Brake shoes, rotors and pads had to be replaced due to premature wear.
