1 Service Brakes problem of the 2026 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/04/2026

#### the abs defect 12. Within seven (7) days of purchase, and with fewer than [number] miles driven, the subject vehicle experienced a catastrophic failure of the abs pump containing the electronic control unit (ecu) [citation:1 from previous analysis]. 13. This failure caused the abs warning light to illuminate and completely disabled the abs functionality, reducing the braking system to non-power-assisted, pre-abs technology. 14. The failure occurred with no warning and despite the vehicle being operated under normal driving conditions. 15. Upon information and belief, the abs pump/ecu unit contained manufacturing and/or design defects that existed at the time the vehicle left defendants' control. #### the airbag system defect 16. On or about [date of crash], plaintiffs were involved in a motor vehicle collision while operating the subject 2026 Toyota Corolla. 17. Upon information and belief, the crash forces were of sufficient magnitude that the vehicle's airbag control unit (acu) should have deployed the front airbags. 18. The airbags failed to deploy, causing plaintiffs to sustain enhanced injuries that would have been prevented or mitigated had the airbags functioned properly. 19. Upon information and belief, the airbag control unit in the subject vehicle is of the same type or design as those implicated in prior class action litigation against Toyota involving defective acus manufactured by zf-trw automotive . 20. Defendants have previously settled claims regarding acus that were vulnerable to "electrical overstress," which could disable the airbag system entirely during a crash, for $78. 5 million . 21. Defendants failed to warn plaintiffs that the 2026 Toyota Corolla might contain an acu with these same vulnerabilities.

2 Service Brakes problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/20/2026

I have a hybrid version of the 2023 Corolla in the se trim. Everytime the car is cold (engine just started), and I'm pressing the brake, I can hear some clicking noises similar to a cv axle noise when they are bad. That braking noise goes away as the car heat up. The noise is sensitive to speed, it changes frequency with it. I haven't experience loss of brakes but I'm concerned with the noise and the possibility of it.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2026 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/19/2026

On February 19, 2026, at only 80 driven miles in this new 2026 Toyota Corolla hatchback, while moving slowly in reverse on dry pavement with no throttle input, no sharp steering and no misuse of the brake the vehicle spun out of control 4-5 times in the parking lot finally causing a collision with a parked vehicle which then it stopped. This collision nearly caused serious injury to the driver. Since its a brand new vehicle bugs and recalls are hard to tell, but we cannot drive this vehicle any longer due to safety issues.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2026 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/19/2026

Make: Toyota model: Corolla (likely hatchback/sedan) year: 2026 VIN: [xxx] mileage at incident: 80 date of purchase: February 17, 2026 date of incident: February 19, 2026 description of defect: while moving slowly in reverse on dry pavement (no throttle, no sharp steering, no brake misuse), the vehicle suddenly spun out of control—yaw/skid like rear wheels lost grip or stability control malfunctioned and steering wheel locked. No prior warning. The spin caused a collision with another vehicle and nearly resulted in serious injury/death to the driver/owner (myself, [xxx] ). Suspected causes (based on symptoms and similar reports): •  possible esc (electronic stability control) or yaw sensor failure. •  abs/traction control pulsing/locking wheels unexpectedly in reverse. •  electronic power steering (eps) glitch—wheel felt “fighting” or unresponsive during the event. •  no fault codes pulled by dealer yet, but similar low-speed reverse spin-outs reported in 2025-2026 Corollas (e. G. , NHTSA complaints on “abs ghosting” or “rear-end slide”). Additional info: •  dealer (Toyota of hollywood, 6920 w sunset blvd, los angeles, CA) has the vehicle awaiting inspector. •  demand letter sent/hand-delivered today (February 21, 2026) under song-beverly act—safety defect, one occurrence. •  no insurance claim filed—this is manufacturer liability, not driver error. •  photos of skid marks/collision available if requested. What I want NHTSA to investigate for potential recall—safety risk is high (uncontrolled spin in reverse at low speed). This is the second such incident in recent Corollas I’ve seen reported; could affect others. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2025 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/27/2026

I was driving at 2pm after an ice storm had hit texas and a majority of ice was missing but there was a small patch under a bridge. There were two stoplights once which was not under a bridge and one about 50-100 in front which was. I had accelerated to about 20 before the other light changed to red and I attempted to stop but due to ice I kept sliding forward adn the abs was going wild and while I had the brake held down the pedal was going wild from the ice and after the car has stopped the brake pedal arm had bent so drasticly my brake lights wouldn't turn off due to the pedal arm being bent into the sensor below the dash. Toyota then refused to cover any part of the repair cost under the warrenty due to outside influence. I did not and could not have expected that using the brake pedal in an emergency situation would brake the brake pedal and they refuse to cover it under manufacturer warranty.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

I am having a problem with my 2020 Toyota Corolla's brakes. I live in [xxx] . In the winter when the car is cold the brakes work normally. When the car has been driven for a while, the car has warmed up, and the brake fluid has thinned, the brakes behave abnormally. When I stop at a red light, after 20 to 40 seconds, the brake pedal slowly drops towards the floor. My understanding is that this could indicate a problem with the master brake cylinder. My fear is that there could be a sudden failure of the cylinder causing an accident. I brought the car to rudy luther Toyota in golden valley. When I brought the car in, it was warm and the brakes were malfunctioning. Unfortunately, they let the car sit for several hours, the brake fluid cooled, and the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/21/2025

Clutch slave cylinder started leaking leading to a sticking clutch pedal, making it difficult to engage the transmission with the engine, and a lower brake/clutch fluid level which could have caused braking issues if the fluid got too low.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/19/2025

On [xxx] at [xxx]. In cupey, puerto rico I was moving from west to east in the[xxx] parish underground parking. While parking my car in reverse, I needed to drive forward to accommodate the car in the parking space. As I shifted to drive, the vehicle accelerated on its own, the breaks were not working and hit a concrete wall. All the airbags exploded, and I was stuck inside the car. The car doors did not open from inside. The acceleration and break systems failed to work at the moment of the car crash. My safety was affected by the car crash impact. I was pressed against the seat by the airbags and the doors were not opening from the inside. I have panic attacks after this incident. The problem has not been confirmed by a car dealer nor independent service center. The vehicle has been inspected by an insurance representative. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior the the failure. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2025 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/29/2025

I am writing to inform you of some recurring issues with my vehicle. The car has been displaying several (5) alerts, including those related to the parking brake system, drive-start control system, check engine light, vehicle stability control system, and secondary collision brake system. I took the car to a dealer for repairs, and they assured me that the issues were resolved. However, the following day, the problems reappeared. Additionally, when I start the car, it emits an unusual sound and begins to shake. Unfortunately, the dealer had 5 days my car to repair and denied to provide a rental car. I don't understand the reason if my car is new and the problem is manufacturing I would appreciate your assistance in addressing these ongoing concerns.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/25/2025

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was shifted to park(p), the word (p) was illuminated on the prndl, but the word was not displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact stated that while shifted to drive(d) there was no indication of drive on the prndl, or the instrument cluster, and the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while shifted to reverse(r). The contact had been advised by a mechanic on how to reset the parking brake to be able to shift to park(p), drive(d) or reverse(r). The contact had been advised to lift the parking brake lever and hold it for 5 seconds and then depress the lever and hold for 5 seconds. The contact was able to shift to any gear, and the vehicle would move after performing the reset. The contact normally did not engage the parking brake, however, when the failure first occurred, the warning "epb stopped completely" illuminated twice but had not illuminated in weeks. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had gradually become a recurring failure. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Toyota Corolla

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

I am reporting an ongoing safety issue involving the skid control ecu and loss of power break recall on my 2024 Toyota Corolla hybrid. The first time, my vehicle experienced loss of power brake assist and displayed a “hybrid system malfunction” message on screen. I towed my car to Toyota, confirmed it was related to the skid control ecu recall and repaired it under the recall at no cost, they did a software update. The second time, the exact same problem reoccurred. I had the vehicle towed again to a Toyota dealership, but this time, they refused to perform diagnostics unless I paid out of pocket for a 12-volt battery replacement. The dealership stated they cannot confirm if the issue is recall-related until diagnostics are complete, but they also refuse to complete diagnostics without me paying first. My vehicle is currently undrivable and unsafe, and I rely on it for daily transportation and work. So they made my pay for this 12v battery to do the diagnostics and now they tell me it is not recall related but one of the relays not working, the repair will be cover under warrant but I had to pay for battery and rental cars . I believe Toyota is in violation of its obligations under 49 u. S. C. §30120, which requires manufacturers to correct recall-related safety defects free of charge. This issue leaves me without a vehicle and unable to verify that the recall has been properly resolved. I have opened a case with Toyota brand engagement. I am requesting that NHTSA review this case and ensure that Toyota complies with recall repair requirements so my vehicle can be safely diagnosed and repaired without charge.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

I believe the break booster on my 2019 Toyota Corolla is defective. This caused my stopping distance to increase significantly, making it difficult to control my vehicle and putting myself and other drivers at risk. There were no warning lamps or messages or other symptoms prior to the start of the issue on October 10, 2025. I quickly took my car to a local mechanic the next day who said I had an issue with my brake booster. To make sure this was the issue I followed up and went to a Toyota dealership for a diagnostic. They initially told me that "all brake systems components were functioning normally at this time" and that all I need to do was to change the break fluid. I did this, but the problem persisted. I then returned to the Toyota dealership for a second diagnostic. This time they noted that the brake master cylinder and brake booster are loosing pressure internally and need to be replaced. When I googled this I saw that some 2019 Corolla (and other hybrid) vehicles were included in a 2019 recall for a brake booster pump that could fail, leading to a loss of braking assist, similar to what I was experiencing. I brought this up with the Toyota brand engagement center. They said there was no recall at this time on file, but that they would put me in touch with a representative who would manage my case (case # 251015000598). The representative would not pick up my phone calls. I was not able to speak with him. After many calls, a different representative spoke with me and told me that the case was already closed and that the assigned representative said he had explained to me why. This is not true as I had not had the chance to speak with him. I am concerned that Toyota has not given my break booster pump due diligence and is dismissing my legitimate safety concern and I would like to report this safety problem to the NHTSA.

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

There was a recall on my vehicle for the skid and emergency braking and was told it was taken care of Feb 2025 at my service appointment. I was involved in a car accident on Aug 11, 2025, everything that was supposed to be fixed in the recall did not operate during my crash. I reconfirmed with the dealership that they did the recall repair and they again said yes but if they did then the repair completely failed. There was no emergency braking available, the car skid a long distance, no airbags deployed even though all sensors in the front were engaged and collision center confirmed they should have gone off. Vehicle is currently at collision center and is available to be inspected.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

The emblem on my car contains a sensor/radar for adaptive cruise control and foward collision warning that is also connected to automatic emergency brakes. The safety of me and my [xxx] old are at risk because if I needed assisted braking/collision warning, my car no longer provides that. The braking on my car feels as if I am needing to apply a lot of pressure on the brake to stop completely or even to come to slower speeds to adjust to traffic. The problem was reproduced prior to me officially picking up my car on [xxx]. The estimator told me that he isn't quite sure what is causing the sensor issue but according to the calibration system it is working fine and he doesn't know how to fix the issue. As for the brakes he said that they feel fine to him. My car was inspected by crash champions and I have been told that my vehicle feels fine and the sensor is working fine according to the calibration system. My car did not originally have this issue until after an accident on [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/19/2025

I was leaving out of the parking lot of the shops santa anita. I was parked underneath by [xxx] and proceeded to to leave and turn out right towards the wide open parking lot. At the time I was leaving, it was completely empty. This parking lot is wide open as I was leaving and I’m going no more than 15 mph when suddenly a beeping sound goes off and the car slams on its brakes on its own! I didn’t even have enough time to stop on my own and look to see what the alert sound was. The car stop and jerked me so hard and slammed forward so hard. Thankfully I was in an empty open parking lot. That would have cause a very bad car accident and I would have been badly hurt and the car that would have slammed into me from behind! this has left me with so much anxiety and I am now very scared to drive this car at all even. I haven’t even had this car for a year and this is the second time I’ve had an issue with it. And I tried explaining to the dealership that for the past couple weeks to month that when I drive the car, it has this pulling feeling when I’m coasting. It has never felt that way before. This is supposed to be a new car. It doesn’t even have 15,000 miles on it yet! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/18/2025

Dear better business bureau, I am filing a formal complaint against Toyota motor north America regarding a serious and unresolved safety defect in my 2024 Toyota Corolla le (VIN [xxx]). The vehicle experienced two incidents of sudden unintended acceleration—the second, on [xxx], resulted in a collision. Despite my repeated efforts to resolve the issue, Toyota has failed to respond adequately or provide critical diagnostic data. In both incidents ([xxx] and [xxx]), while stopped at a red light, the vehicle suddenly surged forward despite my foot being on the brake. On [xxx] this caused a collision. My vehicle has remained undrivable since. Toyota conducted a diagnostic inspection on may 29 under case #[xxx]. I’ve repeatedly requested access to the raw data from this inspection to understand the defect, but Toyota has not responded. Emails to the assigned case manager, ms. Cynthia ware, have gone unanswered. When I was directed to reply to a support email, it bounced back as a “do-not-reply” address, redirecting me to a login page which falsely claimed I had no active cases. This created an endless communication loop. Toyota’s lack of transparency and support is unacceptable—especially given the severity of the issue and the fact that the vehicle is still under warranty. I am requesting: immediate release of the raw diagnostic data from the may 29 inspection a prompt resolution, including full repair, replacement, or buyback clear, responsive communication from an authorized representative this is not only a financial burden, but a serious safety risk. I respectfully request bbb’s assistance in securing a resolution and holding Toyota accountable. Thank you for your time.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

Beginning on April 18, 2025, my 2020 Toyota Corolla le began experiencing repeated failures involving multiple safety systems while driving. Without warning, several lights illuminate at the same time, including: brake system malfunction, pre-collision system, parking brake system, vehicle stability control, check engine, and secondary collision brake system. These warnings appear suddenly during normal driving, then sometimes disappear, then return again unpredictably. These failures disable several integrated safety systems and create a serious safety risk due to changes in braking performance, loss of stability control, and disabled collision-avoidance functions. Diagnostic scans from both the dealership and an independent mechanic repeatedly show: p1578 — brake system malfunction p265b — rocker arm actuator position sensor circuit range/performance (bank 1) both codes reappear even after being cleared. The vehicle was with loving Toyota lufkin, TX multiple times over seven months. They received over $7,100 in insurance payments for repairs, $463 towing cost (due to the negligence of loving Toyota) and almost $1,500 in rental cars (paid by state farm) but were unable to diagnose or fix the underlying failure. Loving Toyota also provided a courtesy rental for 7+ weeks while they did no repairs to the car. The safety warnings continue to occur. Toyota corporate is now involved but the vehicle remains unsafe to drive. The same code p265b is present that was present back in April 2025. This car is not safe! the problem has been reproduced by me, the dealership, and an independent shop. The vehicle is available for inspection. All scans, photos, videos, and documentation are available upon request. Date first occurred: April 18, 2025 issue continues intermittently to present day.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

I was able to distinguish today the car noises my vehicle is making happens when I break. Like a “eeeeek” sound. My mileage is under 8,000, had the car almost a year. Also I notice my wheel stiffens. I’m able to verify it happens when I merge - specifically when the lane dashes end. The wheel somehow gets tight even when driving with both hands. As if the vehicle gets confused. This has happened about 5 times this year but every time it happens- I brace myself for the vehicle to crash since I can’t control the wheel, no matter how strong I try to gain control. The wheel gets too tight to steer. These episodes lasts about 3-4 seconds. I am going to take it to the dealership on April 1, 2025. Also there were no messages on my dashboard when these episodes occurred.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

My mother got in the car and as soon as the car was put on drive, the car accelerated to its max potential, but when she attempted to hit the brakes they did not respond. So max acceleration, on its own, and brakes did not work. She ended up in the hospital for 9 days suffering a broken rib, front teeth missing, they had to sew her tongue back together, both cheeks shattered, broken clavicle and she has a hole right under the back of her skull. Miraculously, after she flipped to the side and took out two trees, the third tree flipped her back to right side up, and stopped the vehicle completely.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

Complaint against ben nielsen skyline automotive – faulty repairs & lack of response I am filing a complaint regarding incomplete and faulty repairs performed on my household’s 2005 Toyota Corolla ce at ben nielsen skyline automotive on November 22, 2024 (invoice #1 attached) and January 3, 2025 (invoice #2 attached). During my first visit, the mechanic identified an oil leak, added dye to locate the source, and instructed me to return after 100 miles for further repairs. I followed these instructions and returned on January 3, 2025, when the shop also adjusted the tie rod and installed new rear brakes. At the time, I trusted that the work had been completed to a professional standard and that my vehicle was safe to drive. However, during a visit to shirlington shell on February 22, 2025, for an unrelated inspection (invoice #3 attached), their mechanic raised serious concerns about the quality of repairs done by ben nielsen skyline automotive: - the tie rod adjustment was not completed properly, which the second mechanic stated made the car potentially unsafe to drive (video evidence available upon request). - the fluid leak was not fully resolved. - the rear brakes installed by ben nielsen skyline automotive are making noise, suggesting they were not installed correctly. These issues indicate that the repairs I paid for were either incomplete or improperly performed, leading to safety concerns and additional costs to diagnose and correct the problems. After discovering these faults, I made multiple attempts to contact ben nielsen skyline automotive via phone and email to request a resolution, including a full reimbursement for the tie rod adjustment, fluid leak repair, and rear brake installation. Unfortunately, my email messages and calls have gone unanswered, leaving me no choice but to escalate this matter.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/30/2024

I recently 6 weeks ago bought a used certified 2016 Toyota Corolla with 43,000 miles. I have been going back and forth with Toyota since the day after I bought it about the many mechanical issues that pose a major safety risk. The car shudders/vibrates when accelerating, knocks when backing up. And when making turns the car shifts hard side to side with a shudder and wobble in floor board of car. It feels as if you don’t have control of the vehicle when driving. It has lots of loose play in the front end and steering really the whole car. It also has a problem going up hill and jumping on fwy a major problem accelerating. They keep telling me car is working per design but this is a lie. I have taken it to 2 other mechanics who told me this car has major issues safety ones to take it back. Toyota fixed the control arms stating that might be what it is but the same problems remain. I am afraid to drive this vehicle and they refuse to figure out the problems and fix them. 2 days after buying it I told them take the car back it has too many mechanical issues they refused. I don’t know what to do I cannot continue driving this car like this and in the rain it could barely handle also. The car has a feeling of loss of control like the whole frame of car is loose. I need help and don’t know what else to do I’ve taken the car back to them about 15 times. They continue to lie and say nothing is wrong even though when I test drove it with the head mechanic. He admitted the car has major issues but told me he did not want to get involved and I would have to take it up with management. I traded in my 2011 SUV that was in good working order to buy this smaller car so my daughter could also learn to drive. They should have never sold this vehicle with this many mechanical safety issues please help.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

We were driving on [xxx] near norcross, GA about 200 ft from exit [xxx] at a constant speed of around 70 mph, when suddenly the vehicle displayed 'system malfunction' and started veering on its own and the brakes wouldn't work. It kept veering to the right and crashed into a vehicle 2 lanes away and rebounded back to the original lane and came to a halt with a message displayed 'shifting to p'. The malfunction and loss of control, along with the brakes not functioning those few seconds/minutes put our lives and others' on the road at risk. The vehicle is available for inspection. The vehicle was towed on the day of the accident and then taken into a Toyota dealership and is currently there. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. Toyota sent a third-party inspector to gather data from the vehicle but that turned out to be merely the crash data up to 5 seconds prior by which time the malfunction had already occurred and the vehicle speed was down from 70mph to 31mph. The incident occurred on Thursday, [xxx]. We do not feel safe driving that vehicle again. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

On Monday, [xxx], I was at the cvs pharmacy drive through when the failure occurred. There was no accident and otherwise no warning before it happened. I attempted to pull out when I noticed the car was drifting and the steering was extremely stiff. I looked down to see that the airbag light and brake light were both on. I coasted into a spot I happened to be aligned with. As I did, I felt the brakes and steering stiffen even more until they were almost 100% seized. (kind of felt like I was fighting hydraulic fluid. ) you guys are welcome to request to inspect the vehicle. I haven't been able to get it inspected, because the Toyota dealership wants me to pay a diagnostic fee to prove the airbag light came on due to the airbag assembly for them to be able to cover the work under the extended warranty for the airbag system. There was no accident. I thankfully didn't have any speed behind me. So, I just barely had enough brakes to stop. This also means that I didn't make an insurance claim or call the police. I did get a tow truck to come out with state farm roadside assistance, though. The vehicle is at my father's house. We far as how this has affected us, I'm never buying a vehicle with electric steering again. At least with traditional power steering, if there's a failure, you can still steer the vehicle, even if it is difficult. If I had been coming down the winding, 6% grade from lake tahoe to carson when it occurred a few nights ago, I wouldn't have been able to stop or steer; I probably would have went into the ravine. Had we been on the highway or even coming down the hill in carson from[xxx] when I lost controls, we could both be dead right now. What's worse is I saw a forum where a bunch of people were talking about this happening to them: losing brakes and steering randomly, while actively driving. A few of them were only at 40k miles. In each case, airbags did not deploy. I think the sensor is causing the crashes sporadically. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
